The Players And The Protagonist Want To Kill Me – Volume 1, Chapter 9
Chapter 9: A Wave of Players Approaches
“Halt! This is Dawn Town. What are you all doing here? Where are you from?”
Before they could achieve anything, a group of players was intercepted by a vigilant squad of guards wielding swords and knives as they reached the gates of Dawn Town.
This made the players somewhat furrow their brows. They needed to enter Dawn Town to complete their quests, but these guards weren’t just for show; they looked fierce and not easy to deal with.
What the players didn’t know was that these guards were usually lax and would let people into the town without much trouble, maybe just asking for a toll from those who looked like easy targets.
Because, after all, Dawn Town was just a border town with nothing to offer, so who would bother causing trouble?
The reason they were being so vigilant today was all because of a certain unscrupulous lord who was waiting at the mayor’s mansion to watch the show.
“We’re all humans, aren’t we? Why are they stopping us?”
“Look at how many of us there are…”
“I heard that Dawn Town belongs to Eagle Territory, it’s private property, so outsiders can’t just enter.”
“I think we should just charge in directly; there are so many of us.”
The players murmured among themselves, their internal discussions not being converted into Cain Continent language.
Then, the players cast an identification spell on the squad of guards at the entrance of Dawn Town.
[Name: Kate]
[Identity: Dawn Town Guard]
[Strength: swordsman level 6 (1-10)]
[Equipment: ???]
[Skills: ???]
[Threat level: Common]
The panels for this group of five guards bore similarities. Three wielded swords, one carried a sword and shield, and one was an archer, with none of their levels exceeding 10.
The players assessed that they could take them on. The guards appeared to be outfitted with standard equipment, and despite their higher levels, they wouldn’t stand a chance against the hundred or so players present.
Just as they were about to act, Ye Hao squeezed out from among the players.
“I am a knight of the Griffin Family, here with my retinue to pledge allegiance to the Eagle Count.”
The guards exchanged glances. With so many attendants, they couldn’t be here to attack Dawn Town, right? They had heard a bit about the Griffin Family; they were a declining noble family on the border of the Count’s territory. Even so, they weren’t someone this small-town guard could afford to provoke.
Several guards carefully scrutinized Ye Hao. His handsome face, disdainful gaze, and condescending demeanor, combined with his common-grade armor adorned with ostentatious patterns, all marked him as a noble’s son who looked down on others and insisted on saving face.
Hmmm…
He was undoubtedly one of those aristocratic scions who looked down their noses at everyone else.
Several guards believed in Ye Hao’s identity and ceased to obstruct him. After bowing to Ye Hao, they stepped aside, clearing the way into Dawn Town.
“Wow, the protagonist is so impressive. What’s his identity?”
“The protagonist mentioned the Griffin Family. They must be a powerful family. I wonder how great they are compared to this Count of the Eagle Territory .”
“I’ll figure it out later. It’s great to have status. Not only did these guards not stop him, but they also saluted him respectfully.”
“How do you get a title? I want one too.”
The players continued to chat as they followed in Ye Hao’s footsteps, entering Dawn Town with heads held high and chests puffed out, full of confidence.
Ye Hao walked at the forefront of the group, feeling extremely relaxed lately.
He was originally a young genius of the ancient martial Ye Family, growing up surrounded by countless accolades. He had already surpassed his peers from other prestigious martial families and had reached the level of a half-step Grandmaster before he was twenty.
Ye Hao never played games because his life was like a game with cheats.
He thought his life would continue to be boringly invincible until two days ago, when a mysterious entity found him.
Ye Hao had never seen such a grand will, such an overwhelming sense of oppression. He felt like an ant facing a tsunami.
The “Grand Will” instructed him to fulfill a mission: to invade a brand-new world.
Invade a world? This excited Ye Hao immensely. He was tired of everything around him.
Compliments, admiring gazes, women throwing themselves at him, invincible strength, endless wealth…
These were not what Ye Hao wanted. Warriors should conquer the heavens.
Invading other worlds was such a noble mission! Just thinking about it made his blood boil!
This was what Ye Hao felt he should be doing!
Soon, Ye Hao was brought before another great will, but he could sense that this “Will” was very weak, barely clinging to existence.
It seemed that the two Wills reached some agreement, and the weak Will handed Ye Hao a beautiful crystal before falling silent.
The mysterious presence told him that the energy within this crystal would become the core hub for the exchange of laws between two worlds. However, due to the vast differences in the laws of the two worlds, for now, it could only summon humans from Blue Star (Earth) in a special way to become the main force invading Cain Continent.
To ensure the smooth progress of the invasion plan, this summoning ritual would exist on Blue Star in the form of a virtual reality game.
Upon hearing this, Ye Hao immediately understood. It was just summoning players, right? Summoning humans from Blue Star in the form of players, using the energy of Cain Continent to sustain their existence and invade Cain Continent. Blue Star would not bear any risks.
And Ye Hao would be like an anchor, firmly rooted in the Cain Continent, becoming the beacon for players to enter the Cain Continent.
Of course, with so many benefits, there would also be corresponding costs.
Ye Hao and the mysterious presence gained the divine essence of Marolyn, naturally bearing her hatred, helping her demi-human tribe return to glory, and making the Cain Human Empire pay for their sins.
These two tasks were completely manageable for Ye Hao. The moment he saw Saintess Zoe, Ye Hao already regarded her as his woman. Helping Zoe was also beneficial to him in conquering this indescribably perfect girl.
What annoyed Ye Hao a bit was that, due to insufficient energy, his original half-step Grandmaster strength in Cain Continent should have been equivalent to level 40, but now it had been weakened to level 11.
However, as compensation, he had three chances to unleash his past strength, and he had one chance every day to foresee some upcoming events in advance. As an additional benefit, the weakened Will directly grant him several top-tier skills.
Looking at his luxurious panel, Ye Hao couldn’t help but reveal a proud smile.
[Name: Ye Hao]
[Identity: Child of Destiny, Commoner]
[Strength: knight level 11 (11-20)]
[Skills: Radiant Cross Slash, Purification, Aura of Glory, Holy Shield Bastion, Master-level Combat Mastery]
[Destiny Skill 1: Breakthrough (remaining uses: 3)]
[Destiny Skill 2: Foresight (remaining uses: 0)]
[Equipment: Fool’s Ornate Armor (Master), Fool’s Ornate Longsword (Master)]
[Cologne Empire reputation: 1 (Your existence has been noticed)]
[Demi-human faction reputation: 37 (Newcomer)]
Ye Hao wondered which member of the Cain Empire already knew about him, even though he had just arrived yesterday.
Ye Hao was puzzled, but he quickly shrugged it off.
After all, he was the Child of Destiny, and being watched by others was a normal occurrence. He had to learn to get used to it.
“You all split into groups of five and investigate inside Dawn Town. If you find any demi-humans enslaved, you can initiate a rescue. If you encounter any special situations, feel free to come to me for help.”
Ye Hao glanced at the players around him and then issued a quest. He also had an NPC template, which allowed him to advance some energy to players as experience points in advance, and he could extract twenty percent of the energy obtained from players to strengthen himself.
Yesterday, Ye Hao had already used the ability of Foresight. He knew the general development of the “plot” to come. As the protagonist, all Ye Hao needed to do was to gather energy and appear at crucial moments. He would leave the tiring tasks to these players.
“The quest progress has been updated. Everyone, form your teams quickly!”
“We need two more warriors for our team, with three mages!”
“Can one of your mages join our team?”
“This lousy game turned out to be about the Holy Light after all?”
Of course, not all players formed teams. There were also one or two lone wolves, and [Fat Chicken with a Round Face] was one of them.
She wasn’t actually here to do quests. She just wanted to explore the customs and cultures of the otherworld from the perspective of a traveler. The feeling of exploring unknown territories and unraveling mysteries intoxicated her.
