I Obviously Just Want to be a Minor Character CH.26

Chapter 26: It’s simple, I already have a target

Silence began to spread between Su Ming and Xu Qianqian.

The two looked at each other. One frowned deeply, while the other wore a grave expression. The silence gradually became suffocating.

However, Su Ming was the first to relax his frown and expression.

“Ah, these are just our own guesses. We still need to discuss whether or not this is the truth.”

Su Ming broke the suffocating silence.

Xu Qianqian was slightly stunned, but she also relaxed herself.

“That’s true. Without proof, our guesses are just us scaring ourselves,” Xu Qianqian said. “What do you plan to do?”

“Me?” Su Ming thought for a while, then said, “I’ll continue to follow the suspicious group’s trail. If I find them, I’ll notify you immediately.”

“Okay, I’ll be waiting for your news.” Of course Xu Qianqian wouldn’t disagree. She only glanced around before saying, “Next time you invite me out, don’t make me come to a hotel.”

“I can’t guarantee that.” Su Ming’s lips twitched, and he rolled his eyes. He took out the broken scale from his backpack and handed it to Xu Qianqian. “I’ll leave this scale to you. Use your family’s channels to see if you can find out what species of spirit demon it belongs to, its level, and even its developmental stage.”

Su Ming couldn’t tell what kind of spirit demon this scale belonged to, but that didn’t mean others couldn’t.

There were many experts in the world who specialised in studying spirit demons.

If a professional could take a look at this scale, they might be able to discern the creature’s overall characteristics, whether it be its species, level, and even its developmental stage.

This way, it would be clear if their guess was correct and the scale’s owner was the youngling of a high-level spirit demon.

“I understand. Leave it to me.”

Xu Qianqian took the scale.

“Then you should go back.” Su Ming began to order her to leave. “Don’t forget, there are still people watching you and waiting to assassinate you. It’s better if you don’t run off to places like this in the middle of the night by yourself.”

“So you do remember.” Xu Qianqian said with a smile. “Since you do, please think more carefully about the time and place of our next meeting. I have to make preparations every time I see you, which is very tiring.”

Xu Qianqian wasn’t unprepared.

In order to deal with the potential assassins, this young lady had clearly made some arrangements.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have come out to meet Su Ming in the middle of the night.

“I just didn’t want to discuss such important matters over the phone.”

Su Ming didn’t seem to be thinking about his own mistakes.

“You’re right, it’s not safe to discuss these things over the phone.”

Xu Qianqian agreed with Su Ming’s words and stood up.

“Then I’ll be going back.” Xu Qianqian looked at Su Ming. “Be careful.”

Su Ming lifted an eyebrow at her words.

“What?” Su Ming smiled. “You’re worried something will happen to me?”

“Yes.” Xu Qianqian was as straightforward as always. “This is a matter concerning the bloodline of a high-level spirit demon. If this gets out, even the major clans and powers in Longyao City won’t be able to idly sit by. Never mind the Base City’s higher-ups who sent their private forces to hunt you down. I’m sure you know what would happen if they found out you were secretly investigating this.”

“No need for you to say it. I know.” Su Ming said nonchalantly. “It’s not like they can do anything more than silence me.”

“Then why are you still so relaxed?” Xu Qianqian frowned.

Su Ming only wanted to say:

“Do you think I would voluntarily put myself in danger?”

Xu Qianqian was stunned by Su Ming’s simple and clear words.

She then let out a bitter laugh. “I almost forgot that you’re the person who hides the deepest within the entire Demon-Hunting Academy.”

Xu Qianqian’s meaning was simple: since Su Ming could hide so well, he definitely wouldn’t recklessly put himself in danger.

Of course, there was a premise behind this.

“Don’t you feel any excitement?” Xu Qianqian stared straight into Su Ming’s eyes. “That could be a young of an upper-class spirit demon, and it has the bloodline of an upper-class spirit demon. Never mind how valuable it is, just think about the power it can bring. Don’t you feel excited enough to take the risk?”

“Hey, hey, hey, my dear academy’s most beautiful girl.” Su Ming said helplessly, “I’m a warlock.”

What he meant was that as a warlock, he had no reason to pursue a hunter’s spirit demon bloodline.

Unless he was going to sell it or trade it.

After all, if he were to sell the bloodline of an upper-class spirit demon, it would definitely be an unimaginable astronomical price.

However, Xu Qianqian had this to say in response to Su Ming’s excuse.

“Warlocks can also become hunters.” Xu Qianqian suddenly said. “As long as they can consume the illusion potion made from the blood of a spirit demon and adapt to the power of the potion, anyone can become a hunter, including warlocks.”

Yes.

As long as one could adapt to the power of illusion magic, even a warlock could become a hunter.

To become a warlock, one must have spiritual aptitude.

Spiritual aptitude was innate.

Even if one could somehow awaken spiritual aptitude later in life, it wasn’t as if they had nothing at all before. Rather, the person had always possessed spiritual aptitude, but because their physical constitution wasn’t up to par, their spiritual aptitude had not awakened, so it looked like they had no spiritual aptitude at all.

Therefore, people without spiritual aptitude could never become warlocks. This was a certain fact.

However…

“Adapting to the blood of a spirit demon is no easy task for a warlock.” Su Ming spread his hands. “Spiritual techniques are powers that suppress the life force and regeneration ability of spirit demons, rendering them ineffective. Warlocks who possess this kind of power have spiritual aptitude and spiritual energy. To adapt to the power of spirit demons, which is completely opposite to their own and even suppressed by it, is practically as difficult as climbing to the heavens, okay?”

This was also a fact.

Otherwise, there would have been many professionals in this world who were both hunters and warlocks.

Because spiritual energy and illusion magic were mutually exclusive and had a mutual suppression relationship, the possibility of a warlock adapting to a portion of a spirit demon’s bloodline and obtaining its power was much lower than that of an average person.

If an average person could adapt to an illusion potion with a success rate of one percent, then a warlock could adapt with a success rate of 0.0001%.

That’s right, it was a success rate of one in a million.

This extremely low success rate was the reason why there were very few professionals in this world who had both types of power.

How few were they?

They were less than seven-starred professionals!

This mutual suppression relationship even extended to descendants.

In other words, if a hunter’s descendant had the bloodline of a spirit demon, then it was basically impossible for them to awaken their spiritual aptitude.

Because of this, warlocks simply didn’t dream of taking an illusion potion to become a hunter.

After all, if they failed to adapt, they would likely die from their body exploding.

Who would be willing to bet on such a low success rate for such a terrible outcome?

Xu Qianqian was naturally very clear on these matters.

However…

“As far as I know, since you entered the academy, you have been very diligent and conscientious in your study of combat techniques, aside from your spiritual technique.”

Xu Qianqian suddenly revealed this information.

Su Ming said nothing.

But Xu Qianqian continued.

“The students of the Warlock Division are generally disinterested in combat techniques. No matter how much they practise, it’s only some sort of physical exercise. It’s impossible for them to achieve the same powerful results as the students of the Hunter Division with their superlative physique.”

Xu Qianqian spoke as if she were talking to herself.

“But you’re different. You’ve always been very diligent. I can’t help but have a certain thought.”

What thought?

It was very simple.

“You’re preparing for your future as a hunter, and for the power of illusion magic.” As if she wanted to see through Su Ming, Xu Qianqian said with a bright gaze, “Considering how deeply you’ve hidden yourself and how we still don’t know what level of strength you possess, I really can’t help but think that something like this is possible for you, isn’t it?”

Su Ming was silent, expressionless as he stared at Xu Qianqian.

Xu Qianqian didn’t feel the least bit intimidated. Instead, she met Su Ming’s gaze and stared back at him with courage and sincerity.

Not long after, Su Ming sighed. “Knowing too much isn’t good for you, Xu Academy’s Most Beautiful Girl!”

Su Ming’s words told Xu Qianqian how accurate her guess was.

Xu Qianqian’s eyes flashed, and her gaze toward Su Ming also changed.

This person really did have such great ambition and determination?

How.

While thousands of thoughts flashed through Xu Qianqian’s mind, Su Ming changed the topic. “You can rest assured. I’m really not interested in this so-called young high-class spirit demon.”

“Why?”

Xu Qianqian looked surprised.

Su Ming’s next answer made her even more surprised. “It’s very simple. I already have a goal.”

Su Ming smiled.

This wasn’t his usual careless and nonchalant smile, but a wild and unrestrained one.

“I really don’t like the blood of ordinary high-level spirit demons.”

Su Ming said such words.

Xu Qianqian was dumbfounded. She stared at Su Ming, at this man she thought she had come to know, and couldn’t speak for a long time.

Xu Qianqian left the hotel.

Su Ming watched as Xu Qianqian left. After a long time, he finally took out a small transparent glass bottle from his backpack.

Inside the bottle was a liquid that was as red as blood, gently swaying and emitting a seductive colour and charm.

Su Ming stared at the blood-red liquid inside the glass bottle, and an indescribable light shone in his eyes.

Spirit demon Blood (High Level: Nightmare Type): The blood of a powerful high-level spirit demon that can be used to refine an illusion potion.

Nightmare Type

This was an extremely powerful existence even among high-level spirit demons.

High-level spirit demons were ranked from low to high like this: dangerous type, nightmare type, and terrifying type.

Each level represented one evolution.

Low-level spirit demons could evolve into high-level spirit demons, but they would only become dangerous types.

Only by continuing to evolve could they become nightmare types, or even terrifying types.

The bottle of spirit demon blood in Su Ming’s hand was the blood of a nightmare type.

“This is my goal.” Su Ming once again revealed his shameless smile.
