I Became Love Rivals With My Crush Ch.13

Be careful of Duan Yang.

In an instant, the chaotic thoughts were connected by these simple five words, forming a clear context that guided her to recall everything that happened by the lake yesterday.

At that time, she had planned to use the Fire Bell Silk to drive away the corpse and then completely burn it, leaving no chance for it to fake its death.

Qu Panyan walked in silence, her brain spinning rapidly.

Back then, she clearly had more than enough time to use the Fire Bell Silk, even with some to spare.

She silently extended her hand and looked at the position on her wrist, unable to help but wonder: why did it end up like this?

She shouldn’t have sustained this injury, and there was absolutely no need for her to get hurt like this.

Why did it turn out like this? She had asked herself that at the time as well.

The five words in her mind lingered for a while, then scattered into specks of starlight, completely merging into her sea of consciousness.

Be careful of Duan Yang.

In that instant, she suddenly realized it.

It ended up like this because Duan Yang had suddenly rushed out and stood in front of her! The man who had initially been timid and fearful had bravely protected her when he saw that she was about to throw the Fire Bell Silk. He forcefully interrupted her actions and shouted, “Miss, be careful!”

As a result, he was the one she ended up saving, and he caused her to be tightly gripped by the corpse, restraining her wrist.

Qu Panyan cursed herself in her heart, how could she not have realized such a simple logic at that time? She slapped her own head in frustration, and after a few pats, she finally came up with an answer—Su Lingyu.

Ever since Su Lingyu appeared, she could no longer think of anything else, and she completely forgot about investigating Duan Yang.

As Qu Panyan pondered, she realized that this might be what they call “being blinded by love”…

She comforted herself, thinking that Su Lingyu was worth it!

However, why did Su Lingyu send her this sound transmission? She clearly didn’t know Duan Yang…

Qu Panyan pondered for a moment whether or not to send Su Lingyu a transmission to ask about the reason, but then she changed her mind. Why bother with the sound transmission? After all, she wouldn’t see Duan Yang again, so it would be better to save this topic for the next time she met Su Lingyu in person—perhaps it could even become an excuse to meet her!

With this plan in mind, Qu Panyan abandoned the idea of sending a sound transmission, put her hand down, and continued walking with a joyful heart.

She and Yan Wu turned around two corners of the winding corridor, where vibrant green bamboo plants adorned the path and natural odd-shaped rocks were scattered along the way. Waterfalls cascaded down like weaving threads, and the sound of rushing water filled her ears. Raising her head, she could see tall and magnificent buildings, surrounded by drifting clouds, making it look like a fairyland.

And right in front of Qu Panyan, amidst the floating clouds, a tall figure vaguely appeared. She stopped in her tracks, silently waiting for the other person to reveal themselves. Then, she looked at the person with an astonished expression, while Yan Wu’s deep voice came from behind her, “Greetings, Second Young Master.”

Qu Changye stood straight before her, a folding fan hanging from his arm and a jade lotus crown donned on his black hair. He exuded an otherworldly and elegant demeanor, with a gentle and refined spirit, while his bright and spirited eyes were calmly gazing at Qu Panyan.

Qu Panyan instinctively wanted to hide her hands behind her back but managed to suppress the thought in time. Instead, she beamed a brilliant smile and obediently called out, “Second Brother.”

Qu Panyan: “Second Brother, why haven’t you returned to Changqing Sect yet?” You scared me so bad by being here.

“Worried about you, so I stayed at home for a few days,” Qu Changye scrutinized her up and down, “How was your visit to Cangnan Sect yesterday?”

Qu Panyan smiled and replied, “I had a great time. The sect elders and the sect leader had many conversations with me.”

Elder Shuiru even told her about the fight between Elder Muhe and An Lin’er’s master. It all started because An Lin’er had been cursing at her for a year, and Elder Muhe couldn’t stand it. Unable to take it out directly on An Lin’er as a junior, he decided to find her master after the joint sect event, adhered to the idea that ‘the disciples of our Cangnan Sect shouldn’t suffer any injustices,’ accusing him of failing to properly teach his disciple and demanding justice.

Elder Shuiru also whispered to her, “Elder Muhe can’t take his anger out on the real culprit, but you can, as the juniors should resolve their grievances among themselves.”

Qu Panyan was both amused and exasperated at that time, but her heart was warmly embraced by their concern. The elders of Cangnan Sect were using their own ways to protect their disciples from being wronged…

Qu Changye nodded expressionlessly and continued, “Tell me, why did that girl from the An family spread false rumors about you?”

Qu Panyan blinked, looking at the reason behind An Lin’er’s false rumors and suddenly feeling that this answer might not be easy to say, “It’s just because of a small misunderstanding, nothing worth mentioning…”

Qu Changye insisted, “Tell me.”

Qu Panyan wanted to touch her nose, but she restrained herself and awkwardly said, “It’s because she… likes you, Second Brother.”

Qu Changye’s composed expression momentarily faltered, his dark eyebrows slightly furrowed, and it took him a while before he uttered, “Absurd excuse.”

Qu Panyan continued, “Because while I was cultivating at Cangnan Sect, I hadn’t revealed my identity as the Third Miss of the Qu Family. And when she saw that you, Second Brother, frequently paid attention to me in public, she, well, absurdly started spreading false rumors about me.”

Qu Changye was slightly shocked by this absurd reason. What kind of nonsense is this! He composed himself and sternly looked at Qu Panyan, “so you just endured it? You let her insult you for a whole year?”

Qu Panyan explained, “We were both in different sects, Cangnan Sect and Wuji Sect, and we didn’t see each other every day. Besides, the family rules state that I should focus on my cultivation, so I pretended not to hear her.”

In truth, she had used Fire Bell Silk to scare An Lin’er a few times, but she never actually struck her with it until the end of their practice session.

An Lin’er seemed to be genuinely afraid of Qu Panyan’s Fire Bell Silk, yet she continued to insult her, as if as long as Qu Panyan didn’t use it on her, she would keep on cursing endlessly, acting tough.

Qu Changye fell silent for a moment and then said, “The family rules need to be revised. I will propose it to sister.”

Qu Panyan cautiously asked, “Can I return to my room now?”

Qu Changye stared at her with profound eyes and suddenly said, “Is your hand injured? Show it to Second Brother.”

Qu Panyan: !!!

Damn it! How did he find out!

Qu Changye seemed to read her thoughts and walked directly towards her, gently grabbing her hand, “If you hadn’t been holding back and not using your hand, Second Brother wouldn’t have noticed.”

Qu Panyan: Damn, miscalculated!

Qu Changye pushed up her sleeve, revealing several layers of bandages. His face darkened, “You got injured within a day of leaving home.”

“You better not step a foot outside the Qu residence for the next few days.” Qu Changye declared.

Qu Panyan was miserably grounded by Qu Changye and even brought to Qu Muqiu to receive a scolding. Standing upright as if in military training, she felt the deep affection from her siblings while cursing inwardly.

Damn it, Duan Yang, you better not let me catch you, or I’ll smash your dog head!

During the days of her confinement, Qu Changye worked to strengthen her spells, subjecting herself to rigorous exercises that were even harsher than the trials at Cangnan Sect. No matter how Qu Panyan explained that her wrist injury had nothing to do with her spell strength, it was all because of her pig teammate’s fault, Qu Changye turned a deaf ear and was determined to train her thoroughly before he returned to Changqing Sect.

Qu Changye’s training regime was concise. He set up a defensive array in place and stood within the protective shield, instructing her to break it. The strength of the defensive array depended on the caster’s cultivation level; the stronger the caster, the harder it was to break the array.

Qu Changye’s cultivation was much stronger than Qu Panyan’s, making it quite challenging for her to break his defensive array.

She tried her best to strike the defensive array with all her strength, but it was far from the ease she experienced when breaking An Cheng’s array. She expended a great deal of spiritual energy, yet the defensive array remained unmoved, and the person standing at its center was as steady as a rock.

This kind of life lasted for nearly a month until Qu Panyan’s arms were almost on the verge of giving up. Then, with just one sentence from Qu Changye, “If you can’t break it, you shall never step a foot outside the Qu residence from now on,” he successfully ignited her desire to win.

She tightly gripped the Fire Bell Silk, veins popping on her hand’s back, her eyes ignited with fierce flames as she stared intensely at the protective shield. Waves of unrest surged in her heart, unable to calm down

—All because of that damn Duan Yang…

She channeled all her spiritual energy into the two Fire Bells, giving it her all as she struck forward. The Fire Bells collided with the sturdy light barrier, producing a crisp ringing sound.

—Damn it, that bastard Duan Yang!!

At that moment, her spiritual energy surged, even breaking through an invisible barrier, and her cultivation level rapidly advanced. The two Fire Bells sensed their master’s transformation and trembled violently, emitting more urgent and rapid ringing sounds.

—It’s all his fault!!!

In Qu Panyan’s silent roar, Qu Changye’s defensive array shattered.

Cracks spread slowly in all directions on the light barrier, and when Qu Panyan looked at Qu Changye from the outside, these cracks seemed to be blooming on his handsome face.

He smiled and said, “You did well.”

The next day was the day Qu Changye returned to Changqing Sect. After seeing him off, Qu Panyan couldn’t help rubbing her shoulders and muttering to herself. As expected of a biological sibling, he showed her no mercy during the training; her hands were almost broken.

Men’s mouths are full of lies; saying they would only keep me here for a few days!

After seeing Qu Changye off, Qu Panyan was about to return to her room when another sound transmission flew over from the sky, once again blocking her path. Her calm and tranquil twin pupils instantly lit up.

During this past month, Su Lingyu had sent her a sound transmission to inquire about her wound’s condition. Knowing that her beloved hadn’t forgotten about her and had sent caring thoughts, her heart felt as if immersed in a sweet honey jar, bubbling with delight.

When the previous sound transmission had arrived, her wound had already healed under the careful care of Qu residence’s physicians, leaving no trace of a scar. So, she responded sincerely and thoroughly to Su Lingyu’s sound transmission. After that, she hadn’t received any more sound transmissions from Su Lingyu.

Could this be from Sister Lingyu?

With eager anticipation, Qu Panyan quickly stored the sound transmission in her sea of consciousness and began reading it. However, the smile on her lips instantly disappeared as  she read the contents, and the psychological shadow of being challenged by Qu Changye during this past month resurfaced. Her sore arms seemed to remind her: It’s all his fault!

At the end of the transmission, two shining words were inscribed—Duan Yang.

It read: “I have found out the identity of that female corpse and also some other information. Miss Qu, if you are interested, please come to the Duan residence in Lincheng for an in-person meeting. Miss Yue is already waiting here, so don’t keep her waiting for long.”

Qu Panyan was speechless. Why did she have a feeling that Duan Yang’s main emphasis was on the last sentence, “Miss Yue is already waiting here, so don’t keep her waiting for long”? It was almost as if he wanted to highlight it in red, underline it, and add a bold font.

Qu Panyan couldn’t help but click her tongue in annoyance.

Is this bastard… trying to threaten her?
