Due to the heat, Xu Heran took off her jacket and tied it around her waist, leaving her upper body clad only in a short-sleeved shirt. When she leaned forward, the neckline revealed her delicate and soft skin. Her collarbones were straight, and the hollow of her collarbones resembled a scoop made of white jade.
When Xin Nuo made contact, she only felt a slightly cool temperature touching her skin, causing her heart hidden in her chest to uncontrollably skip a beat.
“Whoosh.”
Xu Heran’s face suddenly turned red. She sat up straight and watched as Xin Nuo got up. Xin Nuo’s messy hair scattered behind her, and Xu Heran’s gaze, half reproachful and half amused, wandered across her face.
It was as if she were asking, “Why are you blushing?”
“Cough! Sister Nuo Nuo, you’re a bit red here,” Xu Heran pointed to her eyes and said cautiously, “Are you… not happy?”
Leaning against the wall behind her, Xin Nuo rested her hand on her knee. Her index finger, which had brushed against Xu Heran’s body, continued to rub against her thumb. She felt the gazes of the other trainees coming her way and let out a helpless smile. “How could that be? I’m not.”
Xu Heran, still on her knees, bent forward with worry, looking at Xin Nuo. Faced with those pretty eyes, a sense of inexplicable irritation welled up within Xin Nuo. She really wanted Xu Heran to put away her useless emotions. She even found it somewhat laughable; the idea of Xu Heran being concerned about Xin Nuo’s mood seemed ridiculous.
In a small corner of her heart, reason told her that this Xu Heran was different from the “Xu Heran” of her previous life. Reason told her to stay calm.
She raised her head slightly, her chest rising and falling slowly. Exhaling her frustration, she calmly said, “Really, I’m not unhappy. I’m just… hungry.”
Xin Nuo’s words caused the others, who were all ears, to collectively freeze for a moment.
“Ah?” Xu Heran patted her stomach. Oh right, did she skip breakfast this morning?
“We were recording early today, and I was afraid eating would make me feel sluggish, so I didn’t go to the cafeteria,” Xin Nuo explained in a low voice. The others suddenly realized and accepted her explanation.
At this moment, Song Fenghua, who was sitting farthest away, didn’t show any expression. She turned to Jiang Qiong, who was sitting closest to her, and asked, “Is Xin Nuo crying from hunger?”
“Pfft!” Jiang Qiong spat out water.
This statement was so full of sarcasm, not to mention that it came from Song Fenghua’s mouth. Jiang Qiong couldn’t help herself.
“Fenghua said Xin Nuo is crying from hunger! Does that make sense?”
Everyone’s shoulders convulsed with laughter. The key was that Song Fenghua’s expression remained serious, with a puzzled look of “Isn’t that the case?”
“Listen to me, sit closer next time,” Jiang Qiong said while laughing, patting Song Fenghua’s leg.
Song Fenghua remained silent and nodded.
“No laughing!” Xu Heran deliberately put on a serious face, crossed her arms, and said, “What’s wrong with crying from hunger? Who wouldn’t cry from hunger? This is a normal physiological reaction! This is a reflection of basic human needs! This is, well…”
Xu Heran couldn’t continue her exaggeration, so she lowered her hand, pretending she hadn’t said anything at all, and her face lit up with a bright smile. “Let’s go eat!”
“Now?” Jian Yueyin glanced at the time.
“Go ahead, go ahead,” Xu Heran lightly waved her fist in a small motion.
Haya immediately raised her hand. “Take me with you.”
She turned to the others and said, “Hurry up, or she’ll start acting cute again.”
“Hey!” Xu Heran’s ears turned red. Who was acting cute? This person made everything she did seem like acting cute!
“Sure.”
“O K.”
Jiang Qiong shrugged. “I don’t mind.”
“Good,” Song Fenghua was the last to respond.
“Nuo Nuo!” Xu Heran excitedly walked up to Xin Nuo, bent over, and extended her hand. “Come on, everyone else is working hard, let’s sneak off and eat something delicious!”
“Envious of them.”
Xin Nuo looked at the outstretched hand hanging before her. The last trace of her frustration evaporated from her heart. She looked up with a smile, asking Xu Heran, “What about training?”
Xu Heran squinted her eyes. “Doesn’t matter. My stomach is hungry, so I want to eat! Let’s go, let’s go~”
Xin Nuo lowered her head and smiled. After hesitating for a moment, she raised her hand.
Xu Heran grabbed her slender hand and pulled her up. The pleasant scent of laundry detergent reached Xu Heran’s nose. She reluctantly let go of Xin Nuo’s hand, unaware that the person beside her had tilted her head slightly, black hair mingling with hers, resting on her shoulder.
“Xu Heran, you’re really good at acting cute.”
“A cute acting pro.”
Xu Heran: “!”
“I’m not!”
Who am I doing all this for?
She glared angrily at Xin Nuo’s back.
Xin Nuo stood at the entrance of the practice room, her fingers resting on the light switch. She looked at Xu Heran with a playful smile and beckoned with her other hand, curling her finger. “Come here quickly.”
“A little princess who loves to act cute.”
“Got it.”
The room plunged into darkness. In the corridor, the girls chatted and laughed as they left in pairs and threes, leaving behind a trail of light.
The cafeteria was bright and empty. An auntie sat behind the counter, smiling at them. Although the trainees paid great attention to managing their figures, the cafeteria ensured a constant supply of food from morning till night. The ability to control their own portions was something the trainees needed to handle themselves.
“Wow, so hungry.” Xu Heran took the tray that Xin Nuo handed her and swallowed her saliva. She thanked Xin Nuo and stared at the food that radiated a charming glow in the sunlight with sparkling eyes.
“I want a chicken leg, a bowl of dumplings, half an ear of corn, and a plate of Di San Xian.” Xu Heran pointed at the glass with her index finger. “Oh, I want a big bun!”
Xin Nuo stood behind her with her hands behind her back and exclaimed, “Is this what you’re having for breakfast?”
“I’m so hungry!” Xu Heran pouted and rubbed her stomach. “I’m the lead singer, you know. How can I hit high notes if I’m not full?”
“Oh~ I love you, love you, love you. Do you need to hit high notes?” Xin Nuo playfully sang part of a competition song. Her voice was gentle, and there was a meaningful undertone to the trailing notes.
Xu Heran paused for a moment. It was the first time she had heard Xin Nuo sing. Subconsciously, she said, “Nuo Nuo, your singing is really beautiful!”
Xin Nuo raised an eyebrow, handed her tray to the auntie, and imitated Xu Heran’s tone. “Please give me a plate of dumplings and a plate of vegetables.”
The girl behind her immediately said, “Talking about me, huh!”
“Finish eating quickly and get back to training. We won’t come over for lunch.” Xin Nuo said.
Xu Heran could only shrug her shoulders. After grabbing her meal, the two of them joined the rest of the group. The others had already taken their seats. Seven people sat facing each other at the long table, with yogurt and fruits placed on it. The program’s photographer hurried over and stood behind them.
When the camera was pointed at them, Jiang Qiong and Song Fenghua made various degrees of evasive movements. After a while, they stiffly sat down, with Song Fenghua using her arm to cover her face.
On Xu Heran’s left was Haya. She looked at the two eggs on Haya’s plate and frowned. “Is this all you’re eating? We won’t come for lunch at noon.”
Haya wore a pained expression, her false eyelashes drooping. She whispered, “I’m too tall. I heard someone say I look muscular on camera, so I don’t dare to eat too much!”
“But you have to dance. How can you dance if you’re not full of energy?” Xu Heran disapproved, “And where are you muscular? Who has such a bad taste?”
She extended her hand and clenched her fist, thrusting it forward. Haya followed suit, extending her arm. When their two slender arms were compared, it was clear that Haya wasn’t much thicker than Xu Heran.
“Come on, you’re so skinny.” Xu Heran glanced at her own plate and reluctantly handed the chicken leg to Haya. “Eat!”
Haya felt conflicted internally but didn’t refuse.
The seven of them started eating slowly. Except for Haya and Laurel, who shared a dormitory, the others weren’t very familiar with each other yet and hadn’t collaborated before. They ate quietly, heads lowered.
Xu Heran focused on eating, not lifting her head.
Xin Nuo opened the soft bun, and the steaming aroma wafted into everyone’s noses. Several girls who had only wanted to use fruit to fill their stomachs after breakfast couldn’t help but swallow their saliva. They exchanged glances before suddenly standing up.
“I’ll go take another look.”
Great, it seems everyone’s shyness level is relatively low. They should be able to accept 《Let’s Go See the Cherry Blossoms Together》 soon.
Xin Nuo thought, placing half of the opened bun onto Xu Heran’s tray.
Xu Heran, who had been eating with her head down, froze. She looked up, touched by Xin Nuo’s gesture.
Xin Nuo’s lips involuntarily curved upwards, and she helplessly said, “Xu Heran.”
Xu Heran gazed at her eagerly.
“Your eyes…”
Xu Heran quickly wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, thinking that there might be something in her eye.
“It’s nothing. Let’s eat,” Xin Nuo said with a smile.
Xu Heran smiled happily in response, but she didn’t know that Xin Nuo wanted to say—Xu Heran, your eyes, they’re so bright.
I don’t dislike them.
As long as your eyes remain bright and clear like this, I won’t dislike you.
After finishing the meal, everyone returned their trays and sat back down at the table. The atmosphere was somewhat silent. Someone glanced up, and the most enthusiastic Xu Heran was now overly full and drowsy, lazily resting her cheek on her hand.
Her dense eyelashes drooped, partially covering her beautiful pupils, quietly watching the dust particles dance in the sunlight.
“Um…” Jian Yueyin suddenly cleared her throat, and everyone’s attention shifted to her.
“Let’s talk about the songs.”
She took out neatly folded papers from the small bag she carried, astonishingly bringing lyrics for everyone!
Xu Heran looked at Jian Yueyin in surprise, quickly accepted the lyric sheet, and expressed gratitude. However, when her gaze fell upon the lyrics, her expression immediately turned teary. The cameraman dutifully captured everyone’s expressions, except for Song Fenghua, who remained emotionless. The others had various subtle expressions, even the usually composed Xin Nuo tilted her head and sighed.
She also didn’t really want to sing this song.
Jian Yueyin looked at everyone’s expressions, hesitating as she pursed her lips.
Suddenly, Xu Heran leaned back, stretched her arms with the lyrics page, let out a big yawn, leaned against the chair, head drooping, and wailed, “Save the child—”
The aunt behind the counter was puzzled, occasionally glancing over in this direction.
“It’s hunger,” Xin Nuo reminded with a smile.
Xu Heran quickly sat up, wrinkling her nose, deliberately propping one leg on the edge of the chair, assuming an awkward posture. She rolled the lyrics into a tube, tapped it on the table, and spoke up, “Feel free to express your thoughts!”
Everyone had no intention of expressing their thoughts, their gazes fixed on the lyrics. Laurel simply crossed her arms, chewing gum with an indifferent look, as if she didn’t care. The momentum of chanting “Let’s go for it with her” had disappeared after hearing the original song.
Jian Yueyin lifted her gaze, glanced at everyone, and licked her lips.
Xin Nuo noticed the expression of someone who wanted to speak but lacked the courage, and suddenly realized something. She raised her hand, ran her fingers through her hair, leaned back in her chair, and smiled, “Actually, this song is really good. It’s still popular now.”
Xu Heran responded weakly, “Right.”
Jian Yueyin nodded, “Hmm.”
Haya burst into laughter, “Hahaha.”
“Smack, smack.” Laurel continued to stare into space.
Jiang Qiong nodded, while Song Fenghua just said, “Oh.”
“The song is great, but it doesn’t suit our style,” Xin Nuo whispered, “And from the lyrics, it’s not suitable for adaptation. The original authors of this song have their own unique style, which is fantastic.”
Xu Heran gave a thumbs up.
“What I want to say is, do you all remember, from the very first recording when we entered the camp, a rule was announced regarding the selection of competition songs,” Xin Nuo said, then looked at Jian Yueyin.
Jian Yueyin’s eyes lit up.
Xu Heran rubbed her head in confusion, whispering to Xin Nuo, “Uh, what?!”
“Is there something else you know that I don’t?” After all, she was Nuo Nuo’s all-knowing encyclopedia! How could she not know what Nuo Nuo knew!
Xin Nuo withdrew her gaze, smiling as she looked at Xu Heran with a meaningful tone.
“Well, there are so many things.”
