Grab The Heroine and Run Away Ch.14

7/7

And here’s the final one. Hope you enjoyed this week!

With her efforts, Xu Heran eventually managed to obtain Xin Nuo’s phone number, and Xin Nuo agreed that if Xu Heran was eliminated, she would personally see her off.

Xin Nuo hummed the song Xu Heran sang tonight as she returned to the dormitory and prepared for bed.

There were only seven debut spots, and in order to get future members accustomed early, each dormitory had seven people, arranged in order. They would move dorms each time someone was eliminated.

In Xin Nuo’s dormitory, only Lin Weining was present. She smiled at Xin Nuo and said, “I don’t know who mentioned hot pot, but they all rushed out faster than running an 800-meter race.”

Xin Nuo tied her hair back and couldn’t help but laugh at her words, her gaze gentle.

Lin Weining looked at her for a while and smiled, saying, “You’re in a really good mood.”

“Mhm.” Xin Nuo tilted her head slightly and walked into the shower.

Xin Nuo was usually quiet and rarely displayed these cute little actions. Lin Weining couldn’t help but see a shadow of another person in her mind. She shook her head and sighed, thinking that if her stage was as fantastic as theirs, she would definitely be happy too.

Thinking about their team’s performance today, Lin Weining let out a sigh.

At this moment, the sound of water came from the shower, followed by a clear voice singing, “Spread your transparent wings and leap out of the skylight, searching for the most beautiful hope…”

Lin Weining: “…”

Envious!

“Little Princess, even the songs you like are so adorable,” Xin Nuo lay on her bed, looking at the ceiling, pondering, and gradually drifting into a heavier sleepiness, closing her eyes.

After who knows how long, a hazy scene appeared before her eyes. Slanting sunlight pierced through blurry glass windows and spilled onto the floor.

“Ding ling.”

The wind chime in the coffee shop tinkled, and a tall man walked in.

Xin Nuo’s heart plummeted in an instant.

“Xin Nuo.”

The man called out gently, but it made Xin Nuo’s hair stand on end. She watched as the figure that had caused her immense pain approached, sitting in front of her and placing a contract on the table.

“Sign it, and I will make your dreams come true. Don’t worry about your mother’s side either; I’ve already made arrangements.”

“Don’t sign it!”

“Don’t sign, Xin Nuo! She’s a fraud! Don’t fall for it, Xin Nuo—” Xin Nuo shouted loudly, wanting to reach out and stop the other version of herself. However, her body was trapped as if inside a narrow glass bottle, unable to move.

She used all her strength to try to shout, but her throat felt like a bottle neck tightly plugged, unable to make even the slightest sound. A nauseating feeling churned in her stomach, and cold sweat soaked her clothes. She watched as the version of herself at the table smiled gratefully at the man and signed her name without hesitation.

It’s over… all over…

Xin Nuo knelt down on the ground, swallowed by despair. The scene before her was like a message in a drifting bottle that had fallen to the ground, glass shattered and scattered, darkness consuming everything, countless images tumbling and appearing.

“You should be grateful to me, you know. I’ve put a lot of effort into this for you. Don’t you want to thank me?”

“President Xing likes you, and spends a lot of money to pamper you. What more do you want?”

“He treats you badly, I won’t. Trust me and come with me.”

“If you don’t obey, don’t blame me for using some means.”

“Xin Nuo, is the news about you being kept by someone true?”

“Ding—”

“Apologies, your mother’s rescue attempt was unsuccessful at 11 o’clock tonight…”

Countless voices overlapped, figures intertwined, the surroundings growing darker, her figure becoming increasingly tiny, and the shadow of a dark giant engulfing the curled-up girl.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” Tears welled up in Xin Nuo’s eyes as she struggled against the nightmare’s grip, escaping from the corners of her eyes.

“Please accept our condolences.”

“Xin Nuo! Who allowed you to run away? You’re just a dog of my Xing Yu-jin!”

“Xin Nuo, they’ve stopped the vehicle carrying your mother’s ashes. Ji Zong’s men have seized it. He wants you to meet him tomorrow.”

The scenes overlapped, returning to the starting point of the dream. The sound of tinkling blue wind chimes, the black-and-white contract placed on a wooden coffee table.

“Sign it.”

“Thank you.” The girl in the dream tilted her head and smiled gratefully, picking up the pen.

“Idiot, don’t sign! Imbecile! Just go die! Xin Nuo! You’re going to die!” She cursed herself madly, tearing at her own hair.

“Xin Nuo! What’s wrong with you, Xin Nuo?”

“Quick, go get help!”

“…”

“No-no—”

“Gag…”

Xin Nuo suddenly opened her eyes, her stomach churning with acid. Weakly, she sat on the cold floor, her eyes vacant, bloodshot.

“Good girl, Xin Nuo, drink some water.” Xu Heran crouched down, holding a cup, carefully feeding her water.

Xin Nuo’s black hair clung to her pale face, damp with sweat. After a long while, her black eyes moved slightly, gazing towards the cluttered washstand. “Where is this?”

Her hoarse voice asked.

Frowning, Xu Heran said anxiously, “Shh, shh, don’t talk, just drink water first, ah—”

She lifted Xin Nuo’s chin and inserted a straw into her mouth, coaxing her like she was comforting a three-year-old. “Here, sip.”

The warm liquid slid into her mouth, carrying a hint of sweetness.

Xin Nuo blinked her eyes slowly, reaching for her ankle in the dream, pulling her back from the retreating tide of dark mist dragging her into the abyss. The tangible sensation of reality returned in an instant. She smelled the rich, sweet orange scent in the room, mingling with the faint mist.

She saw Xu Heran’s worried blue-purple eyes, gem-like pupils bathed in the bright light of the washroom, radiant brilliance hidden deep within her gaze, yet presented in its entirety before her.

The sweetness in her mouth surged, like uncrushed sugar crystals being ground by her teeth, sweetness invading every corner of her mouth.

The world suddenly became clear, real.

“Ha…” Xin Nuo’s trembling shoulders suddenly steadied. She smiled at Xu Heran, but her eyes welled up with tears.

“Hiss… What’s wrong, Nuo Nuo? Is your stomach hurting?” Xu Heran held a water glass, sweat forming on her worried nose. “It’s my fault for overeating and making you sick. This is the medicine the doctor prescribed. If you’re still uncomfortable, I’ll call an ambulance.”

“Drip.” Droplets of water from Xin Nuo’s face splashed onto the pristine floor, creating unnoticed ripples. Tears streamed down her face as she chuckled, her shoulders trembling.

She had thought the shattered darkness was completely gone, yet it lingered deep within, unexpectedly attacking her fragile defenses. Was it because of her rebirth? Was it something she possessed that hadn’t been lost?

Xin Nuo raised her hand, wiping away the remnants of tears from her cheek, and wearily lowered her gaze.

“I don’t need the medicine. My health is fine.” Her voice was slightly hoarse, and she whispered, “I just… had a dream, a nightmare.”

“A nightmare I don’t like,” she murmured.

Xu Heran remained crouched, holding the water glass in her hands, her gaze fixed on Xin Nuo. She didn’t find it amusing that Xin Nuo was frightened by the dream. On the contrary, as she looked at Xin Nuo’s pale lips, her heart ached.

“Oh, what should we do then?” She furrowed her brows, concerned for Xin Nuo. “Shall I get you a cup of warm milk?”

Xin Nuo’s body was still weak. She leaned against the storage cabinet, her dark eyes silently fixed on Xu Heran.

“Xu Heran,” she called out, watching the beautiful girl gaze back at her without hesitation, as if she would unreservedly fetch anything Xin Nuo desired.

Could it be that she would experience such feelings too? Could it be that this time, with her rebirth, heaven had finally opened its eyes and was willing to let her live a better life?

Xin Nuo chuckled softly, her voice low. She called Xu Heran’s name again under her concerned gaze.

“Xu Heran.”

“Hug me.”

The author has something to say:

① “Radiant Light” (Ending Song of the Chinese 3D Animated Film “Elf’s Song”)

Moonlight illuminates the sky,

Scattering a radiant light to embellish the ocean.

Whenever a shooting star descends from the sky,

Dreams in the heart drift with the wind.

Unfurling transparent wings, leaping out of the skylight,

Searching for the most beautiful hope.

Whenever the sky is painted with colorful rosy hues,

Memories and fantasies soar together.
