The Players And The Protagonist Want To Kill Me – Volume 1, Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Is it reasonable for me, a lord, to snatch candy from kids?

There are a total of eight major towns in the Eagle Count Mountains, along with several small towns. Sivey’s castle is located in the most prosperous Winterfell, also known as Winterkeep.

Of course, the prosperity here is relative. Compared with the count cities near the capital, Winterfell is not even considered an 18th-tier city.

Winterfell is overall circular, divided into the Inner City and the outer city.

One-third of the Inner City is occupied by Sivey’s luxurious Winterkeep, and the rest of the area is generally inhabited by some slightly prestigious people who can afford the high rent of the Inner City, such as mages who can’t make it in the capital, impoverished minor nobles, and temporary residents like big merchants.

The outer city mainly houses slave owners, small vendors, mercenaries, and adventurers, among whom there are also many free people.

The stewards and knights’ families also live in the outer city.

Besides, there are taverns, churches, shops, inns, blacksmiths, and other buildings in the outer city.

Passing by the beautiful angel statues, through the tall castle arches, we arrived at the main street of Winterfell.

The warm sunlight of noon shone on Winterfell, and pedestrians hurried to and fro on the streets, bustling with noise. Seeing Sivey, who was surrounded by knights, people dodged and greeted.

“It’s my lord!”

“Good day, my lord!”

“Wow! There’s a tin can monster!”

“You brat, that’s a knight, sir.”

“My lord is so handsome, I really want to spend time with him~”

The news that the second son of the Golden Lion family had become the Count of the Eagle Territory spread throughout the streets and alleys of Winterfell almost immediately.

Although people didn’t know what Sivey looked like specifically, they recognized the golden lion emblem. He rode past with a cold, expressionless face, followed by a team of determined knights.

He actually wanted to greet these enthusiastic subjects, but thinking about what he was going to do later, he had no mood for it at all.

To prevent the subjects from having beautiful fantasies about him, Sivey had to present the arrogant image of a lord who disdained everyone.

At the same time, his eyes were secretly scanning the pedestrians, looking for suitable targets.

Suddenly, Sivey’s eyes lit up as a chubby kid holding a lollipop entered his line of sight.

Three minutes later, the chubby kid was surrounded by seven or eight helmeted knights in a corner, leaning against the wall somewhat bewilderedly, with a face that seemed about to burst into tears.

“Hehe, little guy, don’t be afraid.”

Sivey squatted down to eye level with the chubby child, rubbed his face, and showed a kind and friendly smile as he asked, “Little kid, let me ask you, do you know who I am?”

“I… I know, you’re my lord,” the child replied hesitantly, looking fearfully at Sivey and the knights behind him.

“Then am I the biggest one in Winterfell?”

“Yes,” the child answered honestly.

“Since I’m the biggest, does that mean everyone has to listen to me?”

“Yes…” the child mumbled.

At these words, Sivey’s face lit up with a triumphant smile. “So, little kid, can you give me the candy you’re holding?” he asked, at his wit’s end.

“No way!” the child exclaimed.

Then, the chubby child stepped back suddenly, hiding the candy behind him. The atmosphere became tense and silent.

The atmosphere grew tense and silent. Sivey’s body stiffened, his smile gradually freezing on his face. Unable to bear the increasingly oppressive atmosphere, the chubby child burst into tears and cried loudly, “Waaah, the lord and the tin can monster are trying to steal my candy… Waaah, the lord is bullying kids…”

“Huh? Don’t cry, I’ll take one from you first, then give you two back…”

Before Sivey could finish speaking, the clear electronic sound of the system echoed in his mind.

[Ding! Host, don’t take the system for a fool.]

“…”

“Well, it seems that taking and then returning won’t work.” Sivey gritted his teeth, looking at the loudly crying chubby child, feeling a sense of danger creeping in. Since he had already made the kid cry, and the brat had such a loud voice, if he attracted people later, it would be like falling into a pit of mud—still dirty and problematic.

So, Sivey didn’t bother to pretend anymore. He signaled to the knights behind him, but they looked at each other hesitantly.

“My lord, this…”

“Just do it! Stop with the nonsense!”

The knight closest to Sivey couldn’t help it and snatched the candy from the chubby child’s hand. Seeing that the target was already in hand, Sivey immediately mounted his horse without looking back and called out to his knights. In a few breaths, they disappeared from the scene of the incident.

“No—! My candy! I just bought that candy!”

In the dim alley, only a chubby child remained, sitting on the ground and crying loudly for his lost candy.

This day was a nightmare for the children of Winterfell. As they came out of the candy shop, they were grabbed by a group of knights and dragged into an alley, where they were robbed of their newly purchased candies!

In the alleys near various candy shops, not only were there ten crying children, but also the legend of a candy thief among the children of Winterfell.

“Ding, Daily Quest 2 has been completed. Do you want to claim the reward now?”

“No.”Sivey gritted his teeth under his helmet.

However, after snatching candies from ten kids, Sivey felt a strange sense of liberation, as if he had been sublimated. It was a kind of freedom and liberation, where he no longer cared if he was behaving like a decent human being or not. Once a person’s bottom line was broken, it was hard to restore.

So, Sivey decided to complete all three quests, take a chance, and see if he could trigger a reward jackpot.

“Young Master Sivey, the old butler has a question for you, if it’s convenient.”

This came from a Great Knight who looked more refined in his armor. He rode up to Sivey’s side and removed his helmet, revealing a mature face with a full beard, a firm and cold gaze, and a scar running from his right eye to his jaw.

He was Earth Knight Clement, a senior knight who had been at the Earth Knight stage for many years. If it weren’t for age restrictions, he might have already been promoted to Sky Knight. Clement used to be the knight captain under Sivey’s father, Manhattan Golden Lion. Later, after Sivey was ennobled as a Count, Clement was sent to protect Sivey and became his personal guard. Now, he also served as the instructor of Winterkeep’s cavalry.

“Clement, there’s no need to be so formal between us. Just ask your question.”

Sivey was deeply impressed by this old knight.

In his previous life, it was this white-bearded old man who guarded the gates of the crummy lord’s castle, blocking the player army for more than two months until he was exhausted and died. The ruthless lord simply utilized this loyal old knight as a mere instrument, commanding him without regard for his loyalty.

However, Sivey genuinely respected this old man from the bottom of his heart. He was his secret weapon, the most reliable pillar of his villain team.

“Young Master Sivey, the old butler doesn’t quite understand why you… um, took away the candies from those children. You know, whatever kind of candy you want, the castle can make it for you, and it’ll be better than what those commoners eat.”

Clement carefully chose his words, asking hesitantly. This question also troubled the other knights.

Sivey wore a bitter smile at this. Saying that Clement couldn’t understand was an understatement; even he himself couldn’t understand. He couldn’t just say that he, the young master of the house, was being coerced by the system and had to do some crappy things every day, could he?

There was no way, so Sivey could only put on a mysterious smile and say, “Clement, it’s normal for you not to understand now, but I believe that with time, you will understand my intentions.”

With that, Sivey glanced at Clement meaningfully.

Clement nodded in response, silently pondering:

“Indeed, Young Master Sivey has been clever since childhood, friendly to others. He must have his own reasons for doing this. It couldn’t really be that he was so bored as to bully the children in the city, right?”

“Is there a possibility that this is a completely new way of interacting with the subjects?”

Thinking of this, Clement’s eyes lit up, and he looked at Sivey with admiration. He felt that he had already understood the young master’s intentions.

The young master was trying to bridge the gap between the lord and the subjects, and also effectively prevent the children from having bad teeth.

The young master is truly kind!

The old knight sighed in his heart, and his gaze at Sivey became even more respectful.

Sivey was left dumbfounded by Clement’s series of facial expressions. He didn’t know what the old knight had imagined in his mind, but it seemed that his random words from earlier had successfully passed muster.
