The Players And The Protagonist Want To Kill Me – Volume 1, Chapter 18

Chapter 18: Fierce Battle

On the other side of the battlefield, the ground seemed to have been plowed through by Pyroblast, with only half of the church left standing, ruins everywhere, and the statue of Barda toppled on the ground, one of the dragon horns broken.

Amidst the chaotic ruins, there were still dense explosions and the clashing of weapons.

Under Sivey’s command, after killing all the priests, the knights had already left this area under the leadership of the new captain of the guards, Gudbay.

The battle of top-tier Earth Knights could kill them just with the aftermath.

Clement was reaching his limit; the man before him was simply a monster.

He seemed to have no pain, exerting full force with every attack, even though his palm was numbed by the recoil, arm blood vessels ruptured, and muscle fibers rolled outside, his attacks remained as fierce as ever, unaffected by any of it, which was still within comprehension.

What really made it hard for Clement to resist was the monster before him, who far surpassed the level of an Earth Knight, with reflexes akin to a wild beast, almost seeing through all of his attack trajectories.

“Hehehe, old man, how many more blows can you withstand?”

Carter’s eyes were cruel, with a touch of madness as he curved his lips, his Greatsword danced with remnants of shadows, chopping and slashing, fast and fierce, each strike making Clement’s palm numb, the bricks under his feet shattering.

Dazzling Qi radiated from the blades of the two, one silver and one red, complementing each other.

The levels of Qi between the two were similar, unable to distinguish superiority. Each collision caused the blades to separate.

Carter pressed on relentlessly, steam rising from his entire body, his exposed skin displaying a strange red color, like a cooked prawn.

Faced with Carter’s storm-like onslaught, Clement was forced to start to retreat step by step, his old body finally showing a flaw. His movements slowed by a beat, he was already too late to block the next diagonal slash coming right after.

At this critical moment, the experienced Clement immediately adjusted his body, but he only had time to slightly turn sideways, hoping to trade a chance for survival with the loss of one arm.

This was already the best choice.

Carter noticed Clement’s intention, but he didn’t care, the smile on his face becoming even crazier.

A knight with a severed arm was an even better toy, bringing him more pleasure in the cat-and-mouse game.

“Clang.”

Just then, a giant sword flew diagonally, narrowly blocking Carter’s diagonal slash and also being knocked back by the force.

Clement immediately reacted, seizing the opportunity to roll on the spot, creating distance from Carter.

“Tsk—”

As the attack failed, Carter, holding the giant sword, spat out a mouthful of saliva dissatisfied, glanced sideways at Sivey, who stood with one foot forward.

It seemed that Malton, that trash, was already dead, doing more harm than good. It was foolish for the pope to entrust such an important matter to him.

“You-, young master… your old servant is incompetent…”

Clement stammered, half kneeling on the ground, clutching the sword in his hand, looking somewhat defeated.

Sivey picked up his giant sword that had been knocked away, walked slowly to Clement’s side, and patted his shoulder reassuringly.

“No need to blame yourself, Clement. This guy is a Temple knight who has been modified. You can’t judge him by common sense.”

As he spoke, Sivey also looked at Carter with indifference.

“He doesn’t even feel pain; he’s just a pitiful killing machine created by the Holy See, not even worthy of being called human.”

“Temple knight, you say?” Clement was somewhat enlightened. He had heard of the title of Temple knight back in the capital but never had the chance to see one. Now that he had crossed swords with one, it was indeed extraordinary.

“Interesting! Very interesting! Hehehe, kid, you seem to know quite a lot,” Carter grinned oddly, looking at Sivey with interest.

Information about their Temple knights was absolutely confidential, known only to very few. The fact that this Eagle Lord could discern his abilities upon their first meeting meant he was definitely someone with many secrets. If they could capture the Eagle Lord and hand him over to the pope, it might be a great achievement.

Carter pondered, his gaze gradually becoming more dangerous. It was one against two now, and if he didn’t use his full strength, it would be difficult to capture this lord alive.

But if he used that power…

Carter hesitated for a moment, but his gaze soon became firm again.

Since becoming a Temple knight, he had long put life and death aside.

He believed that the pope would take care of his family.

These thoughts flashed through Carter’s mind in an instant, but in his field of vision, the old knight and the Eagle Lord were already joining forces to attack.

Frenzy!

Carter roared, and a crimson mist erupted from his entire body. His height and physique suddenly expanded, his muscles bulging so much that even his armor couldn’t fully contain them.

Thick black fur sprouted from all over Carter’s body, his hands’ knuckles thickened, his nails lengthened, and in an instant, they turned into sharp wolf claws.

His head had also transformed into a grimacing wolf’s head.

“Overestimating yourselves!”

[E/N: The above statement shows Carter’s severely impaired thinking capability and rationality, as he is not even capable to speak a sentence properly]

Facing the swords slashing from left and right, Carter roared skyward. His claws were as hard as metal, one hand blocking Sivey’s heavy blow while the other grabbed Clement’s blade, easily blocking both their attacks.

Clement twisted his arm forcefully, retreating with a leap, his Longsword breaking free from Carter’s huge claw.

“This is… a werewolf?!” Clement exclaimed.

“It appears that the Barda, the Holy See’s modified Temple knights, are even more corrupt than we imagined,” Sivey sneered mockingly.

He then kicked Carter in the waist, creating distance, while simultaneously focusing his attention on Carter’s information.

[Name: Carter (Frenzy) (Temporary)]

[Identity: Temple knight]

[Strength: Earth Knight Level 44 (41-50)]

[Other: Brief]

Just a temporary skill?

Sivey made a decision in his heart.

“Clement, his frenzy has a time limit. If we can hold him off, we can win.”

As soon as the words fell, Carter had already pounced forward, an iron claw sweeping horizontally. Sivey immediately rolled to avoid it, and the claw “boom” shattered the stone statue behind Sivey.

Sivey got up, staring at Carter, who was pouncing again, feeling a chill in his heart. Without hesitation, he activated the dragon crystal shield on his Heroic armor and cast Radiant Bastion on himself.

A golden dragon roared behind Sivey, and the divine light of the shield disappeared into his body.

Sivey leaped up, initiating Fearless Charge, dragging his huge sword and crashing into Carter’s arms, facing him head-on.

Clement knew that the lord was creating an opportunity for him, so he also focused his attention, using his agility to find Carter’s weaknesses and launch harassing attacks.

“You despicable insect!”

Carter roared as his iron claws scratched against a turtle shell, feeling their bluntness.

What surprised him even more was that the lord of Eagle Territory seemed weaker in terms of strength than him after his frenzy, but each seemingly simple sword strike contained powerful sword momentum, as sturdy as a thousand-pound boulder, entangling him tightly.

And every now and then, that old knight would also sneak in a jab at him.

This nearly drove Carter mad with annoyance.

The longer he used the frenzy, the more life he depleted. He couldn’t wait any longer.

More blood mist surged from Carter’s body, his eyes shining red, and the ferocious wolf head gradually gained some wrinkles, while the hair behind his head also turned white at a visible speed.

He was rapidly aging, but his speed and strength also increased several times at this moment.

“Die!”

Carter roared, his huge claws swirling with vigor as he fiercely smashed onto Sivey’s dragon shield. At the same time, he lifted his foot and kicked Clement behind him.

The dragon shield on Sivey’s body reached its limit and was instantly shattered, while Clement was also kicked out, crashing into the ruins, his life or death unknown.

Carter felt somewhat weak and sighed heavily. The massive loss of life force made him appear somewhat haggard. He grabbed Sivey from the ground, pinching the collar of Sivey’s armor and lifting him up.

“Originally, I wanted to hand you over to His Highness the Pope…”

Carter’s crimson wolf eyes stared viciously at Sivey, his mind almost devoid of reason.

“But now, I’ve changed my mind. I’m going to eat you!”

“That depends on whether you can handle it! Resolute Will!”

Facing Carter’s gaping maw, Sivey shouted loudly, his blood boiling at this moment.

With each heartbeat, a surging force spread throughout his body. In the blink of an eye, he swung his sandbag-sized fist and fiercely smashed it onto Carter’s chin.

Carter staggered from Sivey’s heavy punch, his eyes seeing stars, and a few bloody wolf teeth flew out.

With the boost from Resolute Will, Sivey’s speed, strength, and wound recovery ability were greatly enhanced. In this give and take, the weakened Carter was no longer a threat to him.

“So you want to eat me? I’ll rip out all your teeth!”

In mid-air, Sivey lifted his knee forcefully against Carter’s head, then, with the force of inertia and gravity, with a loud boom, he smashed Carter’s head onto the ground, then ruthlessly pried open Carter’s wolf jaws and pulled out all his teeth.

Without giving Carter time to react, Sivey had already picked up his huge sword and beheaded Carter with a single stroke.

“This time, I’ve learned my lesson. For you servants of the gods, only by severing your heads can honesty be ensured.”
