I Obviously Just Want to be a Minor Character CH.23

Chapter 23: Suspicious Group, Mysterious Existence

Su Ming, who had left the academy, was naturally unaware of the situation with the campus beauties he had met earlier. The relationship between them had become a little tense.

At this time, Su Ming was walking on the streets of Longyao City like an ordinary person. He walked through the crowd while stroking his chin and pondering.

“Since I’m already out, I might as well start working on Xu Qianqian’s mission.”

With that thought, Su Ming turned into a small alleyway, purposely avoiding the crowd and the surveillance cameras to enter a deserted area.

He triple-checked there was no one else around before taking out an object from his backpack.

Su Ming opened a device that looked like a beehive, revealing a keypad. Then, after placing one of his fingers on it, it lit up.

It was scanning his fingerprint while making “beep beep” noises.

Su Ming murmured as he waited for the scanning to finish.

“It’s been about a week since then. Although it might be a little difficult, I should still be able to detect the spiritual energy from that night.”

The honeycomb-shaped instrument in Su Ming’s hand was an alchemy device.

It could detect residual spiritual energy on the person it touched and track down the source of the spiritual energy.

That night, he had been under surveillance by two warlocks in the group who had used the “Life Detection” technique to sweep their spiritual energy waves over him multiple times.

In such circumstances, it was very possible that there were traces of the two warlocks’ residual spiritual energy on Su Ming’s body. Even if it was very weak, it would still be traceable.

Before long, the honeycomb completed its scan.

The input panel began to sink, as if a small door were opening up, allowing one bee after another to fly out.

Buzz buzz buzz~

The bees circled in the air for a while, making a slight buzzing sound, before dispersing.

Su Ming watched the bees leave and stood in place, talking to himself.

“The remaining spiritual energy has been scanned, but whether or not I can track down the source is still unknown.”

The bees would slowly spread out and search the area. Once they found a spiritual energy wave with the same amount of residual spiritual energy as what was scanned, the beehive would react.

In other words, if the bees couldn’t find a spiritual energy wave with the same amount of residual spiritual energy, the search would fail.

“Ah, I hope those two aren’t so cautious that they’ve been restraining or erasing the spiritual energy waves they left behind.”

Su Ming hoped so.

Although Su Ming had more than one item that could be used to search for specific people, they were consumables or had unstable effects. Only this beehive could be used repeatedly and was both sufficiently concealed and secure. If possible, Su Ming wanted to achieve his goal with only this beehive.

“Come to think of it, did Xu Qianqian send over her investigation records?”

Su Ming recalled this and took out his cell phone.

She did, in fact, already send the encrypted files she had promised Su Ming this morning.

Unfortunately, because of An Zijin’s surprise attack on the boys’ dormitory, Su Ming had been woken up after being harassed by Ye Bai and had no time to look at them.

Only now did Su Ming finally have the mood and time to look at these records.

“Let me see what the academy’s most beautiful girl has been investigating for so long.”

Su Ming began to look through these encrypted files.

The contents of the files weren’t as much as Su Ming had imagined.

It recorded Xu Qianqian’s actions every day since she received the investigation mission. It looked quite systematic, like a report.

Xu Qianqian wrote a lot in her report, but after browsing through it, Su Ming found out there wasn’t much useful information.

“According to Xu Qianqian’s report, the suspicious organisation was first discovered forty days ago, and she only received this mission ten days ago. The investigation hasn’t been going for long.”

Before this mission was handed to Xu Qianqian, the Base City’s higher-ups had been sending people to investigate, but almost no one could find useful traces of the suspicious organisation.

Later, the mission was entrusted to Xu Qianqian. On the surface, she continued to attend school as usual, but in secret, she was looking for clues everywhere.

At first, Xu Qianqian didn’t find anything, but then she eventually found out the suspicious group was chasing something.

Because of this, she no longer investigated the suspicious group and instead turned to search what they were chasing.

In doing so, Xu Qianqian found some traces of the mysterious existence’s activities. In the end, she successfully saw the suspicious group.

Unfortunately, just as Xu Qianqian was about to delve deeper into her investigation, someone struck her with a sneak attack, causing her a serious injury.

“Judging by Xu Qianqian’s appearance, that sneak attacker doesn’t seem to have anything to do with this mission or the suspicious group.” Su Ming pondered.

He guessed that the person who had ambushed Xu Qianqian was an assassin who had been watching the young lady. When Xu Qianqian went out late at night to investigate a suspicious group, the assassin took the opportunity to attack.

As for why the person had targeted Xu Qianqian, there were many possible reasons.

“Perhaps Xu Family’s enemies are targeting their outstanding juniors, or it could even be a case of internal conflict within the Xu Family.”

Were that the case, Xu Qianqian had no choice but to drop her current mission and not tell Su Ming why she was going alone to face the attacker.

One was a suspicious group that posed no threat to her, while the other was an attacker who threatened her life and even the safety of her family. Xu Qianqian couldn’t possibly not understand which was more important.

Su Ming also didn’t intend to intervene in this kind of conflict between large families, so he stopped paying attention to this matter.

“What I should focus on is that suspicious group. Let Xu Qianqian worry about her own business.”

That was what Su Ming thought.

“The problem is, if we do this, Xu Qianqian won’t know much about what happened that night.”

Xu Qianqian had just prepared to delve deeper into her investigation when she was ambushed.

As a result, the attacker who failed to take her life had fled thousands of kilometres. Xu Qianqian, who had been seriously injured, lost her mind and became irrational. After forcing the attacker away, she even continued to track down the suspicious organisation.

After that, she ran into Su Ming, who was trying to avoid her, and the two of them got into a fight.

Once Xu Qianqian had sucked some of Su Ming’s blood and recovered from her injuries, her mental state also improved. The young lady left without another word.

It wasn’t until yesterday that Xu Qianqian found Su Ming and officially entrusted him with this matter.

This was the entirety of Xu Qianqian’s involvement in this incident.

“It doesn’t really help me much.”

Su Ming came to this conclusion after reading the report.

However, Xu Qianqian’s actions also reminded Su Ming of something.

“Perhaps I should follow Xu Qianqian’s example and start with the mysterious existence that’s being chased by the suspicious group.”

Su Ming recalled what had happened that night.

At that time, the suspicious organisation seemed to have discovered something and finally caught up with the mysterious existence, leading to a fierce battle between the two.

“Judging from the commotion back then, this mysterious entity’s strength is extraordinary. Even if it was facing twenty to thirty hunters and warlocks, it could still fight for a long time.”

The hunters and warlocks in the group were all at a professional level, each with a strength far superior to the students of the academy.

To be able to fight against such a group for so long, and even avoid being captured for over a month, the strength of this entity was obvious.

“What kind of existence is it?” Su Ming pondered.

One minute later, Su Ming made his decision.

“I’ll go to the place where they fought that night.”

Only after making up his mind did Su Ming turn and head toward the outskirts, which were located in the deserted area behind the Demon-Hunting Academy.

Su Ming’s destination was where the explosion that had attracted the suspicious group had taken place.

But when Su Ming arrived, he discovered the area had been sealed off.

He saw the Base City’s law enforcement officers treating the area like a crime scene. Yellow lines had been drawn around it.

Some of them stood in front of the yellow lines, some of them were taking photos, some of them were searching, and some of them were chatting quietly, making the atmosphere at the scene somewhat solemn.

“As expected, the suspicious group and mysterious existence caused quite a commotion.”

Su Ming didn’t back away, but instead took out the beehive once again.

“I’ll check the remaining spiritual energy here and see if I can find anything.”

Su Ming opened the device and began scanning the scene.

As soon as he did, several bees flew out. After buzzing for a while, they flew in a certain direction.

“…”

Su Ming was slightly stunned, but after realising what it was, he immediately chased after them.
