I Obviously Just Want to be a Minor Character CH.24
Chapter 24: Is it too late for me to leave now?
Time passed.
Before he knew it, the sky had begun to turn a light yellow, and the setting sun painted the world with a layer of evening haze.
Su Ming had left the academy in the morning, but by the time he was running around, evening had already fallen.
“Really…”
Su Ming panted as he stood in the outskirts, looking at the bees still flying in the air. He felt helpless.
He had been following these bees for an entire day.
At first, Su Ming had thought he had finally found some clues and could track down the people he was looking for, but things didn’t turn out to be as smooth as he thought.
Of course, the search hadn’t been totally fruitless.
“This is already the eleventh time?”
Su Ming took a deep breath and looked around.
The environment around him was clearly a little off.
Some places were clearly burned.
Some places seemed to have been destroyed, and the damage was severe.
Some places were covered in blood, forming a pool of bloodstains.
Without a doubt, this had once been a battlefield.
Su Ming knew what had happened.
“Neither the suspicious group nor the mysterious existence won.”
Just like the previous forty days, the suspicious group had not yet captured that mysterious existence.
Su Ming had been running around all day, but had no clue to the whereabouts of the two parties involved. Instead, he found quite a few areas where the battle took place that hadn’t yet been sealed off.
“It’s not easy to find them.”
Su Ming felt somewhat helpless. However, he did not feel discouraged by this result.
“If it doesn’t work, I’ll just try another method.”
Over the past year, he had opened countless packages and received dozens of items, some of which had very unique uses that could be applied to his current situation.
With these cards in hand, Su Ming wasn’t worried that he wouldn’t be able to find the person. It was only a matter of how much energy and how many items he needed to spend.
If he really didn’t care about the cost, Su Ming could have found the person immediately.
He simply didn’t feel it was worth it.
“I’m not in a rush anyway, so I might as well take my time.”
Su Ming wasn’t good at much, but his patience was definitely the best.
After all, he was a man who wanted to live until he was invincible in the world. If he couldn’t endure boredom or provocation, he would have long since shown a flaw.
Therefore, Su Ming planned to return home first and then come back to search again.
“Hm?”
Just as Su Ming was about to leave, he suddenly saw something bright out of the corner of his eye.
“Something’s there?”
Su Ming was slightly puzzled, but his footsteps were firm as he headed toward the source of the light.
It didn’t take long for Su Ming to see the source of the light.
“Scale?”
Su Ming was surprised.
The source of the light was a broken scale.
Although the scale was broken, its surface was smooth like a mirror. The rays of the setting sun reflected off of it, creating a dazzling gleam that gave it an ethereal feel.
Su Ming picked up the scale and examined it for a while before frowning.
“This should be a spirit demon’s scale.”
It was impossible for scales of ordinary animals to be this beautiful, nor would they appear in such a place. On top of that, Su Ming could sense the aura of an spirit demon on it.
Su Ming pondered for a while, and a thought flashed through his mind.
Su Ming couldn’t imagine what kind of spirit demon would need to hunt in secret, making a ruckus each time before disappearing without a trace and attracting the desire of a certain ambitious person in the base city’s upper echelons.
“If that mysterious existence is a spirit demon, then what kind is it?”
Su Ming studied it for a long time, but in the end, he was certain the scale didn’t belong to any low-level spirit demon.
This made Su Ming’s brows furrow even more deeply, and his heart gradually became more and more alarmed and uneasy.
“Could it be that the suspicious group is hunting a high-level spirit demon?”
Su Ming was somewhat shocked.
High-level spirit demons.
Those were extraordinary beings.
In the Spiritual Demon Prison, there were many spirit demons and many different species.
The majority were all low-level spirit demons. While they’re a great threat to ordinary humans, they are the weakest of the weak in the Spiritual Demon Prison.
However, when a spirit demon consumes enough blood and accumulates enough power, it will leave its own group and evolve into a brand-new individual—a high level spirit demon.
Upon birth, these high-level spirit demons would often become the king of their own race, and are far more threatening to humans than low-level ones.
A low-level spirit demon could easily be taken down by three students like Su Ming, Lei Hao, and Ye Bai working together.
Su Ming or professional hunters could hunt down multiple by themselves without any trouble.
However, once they encountered a high-level spirit demon, they’d only be able to become the target of the slaughter.
Once a hunter or warlock obtained their licence and became a professional, they could receive star ratings, starting off as one-level.
Afterwards, they could continue to grow, improve, and refine their strength until they reached the highest star rating of seven stars.
Even the weakest high-level spirit demon required at least a four-star hunter and a four-star warlock to deal with.
As such, the difference between high-level spirit demons and low-level spirit demons was immense.
If the suspicious group was chasing down a high-level spirit demon…
“This matter cannot be easily resolved.”
Su Ming held the scale in his hand, his heart surging with emotions.
“Looks like I have to talk to Miss Xu again.”
Su Ming took a deep breath and placed the scale in his hand into his backpack.
After searching the area for a while, Su Ming didn’t find anything else and returned to his dorm.
He didn’t recall the swarm he had used to search, as they could find something else later on.
That night, Su Ming didn’t return to his dorm.
He knew that if he did, those rough men would pester him endlessly.
So, Su Ming simply booked a room in a hotel and sent a message to Xu Qianqian.
“I’ve booked a room in a hotel nearby. Come over.”
Su Ming attached the address to the message and sent it to her.
However, Xu Qianqian’s reply was later than Su Ming had imagined, and the content of the message almost made him spit blood.
“You’re the first person who dares to directly invite me to a hotel.”
When Su Ming read this line, he didn’t react at first. But after he did, his eyes burst out.
Upon closer inspection, the message he sent really did sound… improper?
The corner of Su Ming’s mouth twitched.
He quickly explained himself.
“I have something to discuss with you.” Su Ming said.
This time, Xu Qianqian replied even later.
Just as Su Ming was confused, Xu Qianqian finally responded.
“After I told my butler about this, he not only got mad at me, he also scolded you. He said your excuse for tricking girls into going to hotels is really awful.”
Su Ming wanted to slam his head into the pillow and die.
In the end, Su Ming simply responded with one line.
“Come if you want.”
After throwing out this line, Su Ming tossed his phone aside and ignored everyone else.
He wanted to lie down and sleep but realised that after a day of running around, he was covered in sweat and smelled like shit.
“I should take a shower first.”
As a clean and refined young man, Su Ming immediately ran to the bathroom and took a refreshing shower.
By the time he walked out feeling fresh, a knock sounded outside his door.
“I’m here.” Xu Qianqian stood by the door, looking at Su Ming in only a bathrobe. She pondered for a long while.
“Can I still leave?”
Almost as soon as she finished speaking, Su Ming dragged her into his room.
