The Players And The Protagonist Want To Kill Me – Volume 1, Chapter 56

Chapter 56: The Destruction of the Button Family

Without paying attention to the miserable sight of the three Earth Knights on the ground, Baine Bloodhoof didn’t need his help.

Sivey first went to check on Clement’s condition.

At this point, the old knight’s face was haggard, already unconscious.

He was already exhausted, depleted of Qi, and had suffered considerable injuries in battle. Being able to hold on until Sivey arrived was already remarkable.

“Fortunately, there’s no danger to his life. Drinking a bottle of Water of Life when we get back will make him as good as new…”

Sivey smiled slightly, relieved.

But in the future, such situations would become more and more common, and the number of injured would increase. It wouldn’t be possible to rely on Water of Life every time.

Sivey secretly made up his mind.

“When we get back this time, we need to hurry up and awaken Lori.”

He pondered in his heart. With enemies surrounding them, the lack of healing power was a fatal problem.

The best healing power was undoubtedly from priests. They were very precious resources, usually only found in the lord’s city where the Holy See had built churches.

But Sivey didn’t regret killing so many priests of the Badal Holy See before.

Although priests of different deities all had basic healing techniques, their faiths were not the same.

The priests of the Badal Holy See worshiped the god of war and flames, which determined their nature of destruction.

This was why they viewed commoners as lowly ants and committed acts like using the blood of demi-human girls to make Temple knights for the Demon.

Furthermore, priests were ultimately not controllable by Sivey. Even if they were priests of benevolent gods, their original intention was still to serve the deities, not a specific lord.

Sivey was very clear about this. He was different from other lords. He couldn’t allow power to emerge that was beyond his control, otherwise a backstab at a critical moment would be enough to force him into a corner.

So, regarding the choice of healing power, besides the maids he could completely trust, Sivey already had some new ideas to try.

On the other side of the battlefield, the Button Territory army, which was already in a bad situation, completely fell into a disadvantage with the addition of Tauren Warriors.

“Bloodhoof Clan, join the battle!”

“Try this!”

Karl Bloodhoof dragged a Magic Cannon in his hand, splitting his mouth into an exaggerated smile. With a “whoosh,” a purplish-red beam of light shot into the Button Family’s formation, blasting a group of soldiers into the sky.

This surprised the soldiers and knights of Button Territory.

“These… These monsters have Magic Cannons!”

“That seems to be from our city walls. Report to Viscount!”

In fact, soldiers didn’t need to report. Viscount Button had already noticed the occasional purple-red light shooting across the battlefield.

He watched suspiciously as the Tauren Warrior wielding the Magic Cannon fired indiscriminately. An ominous premonition had reached its peak in his heart.

“It’s impossible, it can’t be. They can’t breach Button City. Yes, those are their own Magic Cannons…”

“Viscount, something’s wrong!”

At this moment, a soldier rolled and crawled to Viscount Button’s side.

He was wearing the gear of a city defender, panting heavily. It was obvious that he had just hurriedly rushed over from Button City.

“What’s going on? Tell me, is everything alright in Button City?”

Viscount Button looked anxiously at the soldier before him. He still held onto some hope, some wishful thinking, hoping to hear good news from the soldier’s mouth.

But the soldier’s mournful face shattered his final illusion.

“No! Viscount, Button City… Button City has fallen, Homan Castle has been looted! Viscount… Viscount?”

“Viscount has fainted, someone come quick!”

“Quick, take Viscount away!”

“Retreat, retreat!”

From the first call to retreat, Button Family’s defeat was sealed.

The first to drop their weapons were the farmers, who had been pitifully forced onto the battlefield by Button Family’s knights. Upon hearing the retreat order, they immediately turned and fled.

The mass exodus of farmers caused even the fighting knights and regular soldiers to waver. One by one, they started to run, triggering a chain reaction.

When the last few Button Family knights who resisted to the end fell under the Tauren’s giant axes, the outcome of the war was no longer in doubt.

The militiamen of Button Family scattered across the vast desert like headless flies, with Winterfell pursuers hot on their heels.

In the eyes of these pursuers, these people were both enemies and trophies.

It wasn’t until Sivey arrived to take charge of the battlefield and ordered the pursuit to stop that these militiamen obediently returned to the ranks.

After a brief celebration, Winterfell soldiers began to clean up the battlefield. The equipment worn by these soldiers and militiamen of the Button Family was better than theirs, and now it was their spoils of war.

After a bit of cleanup, they collected more than two hundred sets of armor. Even the slightly damaged ones could be taken back to Winterfell for repairs by the blacksmiths.

With nightfall, the soldiers finished tidying up the battlefield and set up camp.

Clement had already regained consciousness from his coma and gathered with Sivey and the other knights around the campfire for discussion.

Sivey chose not to immediately return to Winterfell. The soldiers needed rest, and marching at night was not safe.

Aside from the cheers of victory just won, the mood around the campfire was not upbeat at this moment. Many fell into silence and sorrow.

This war was undoubtedly fierce, with a large number of militiamen dead. However, they used their own lives to preserve most of Winterfell’s knight strength.

After some simple arrangements, Sivey spoke words of comfort again, although the effect was mediocre, the people reluctantly lifted their spirits.

What surprised him even more was that the knights spontaneously mentioned to him about providing compensation to the deceased militiamen.

After he learned the whole story, he couldn’t help but feel a bit sad. He didn’t expect that his small gesture could garner such support from the militiamen and also bring a spiritual impact to his subordinates, the knights.

It was a good thing, but it was a pity for those deceased militiamen.

Sivey didn’t say much more, letting everyone go back to rest early, and return to Winterfell early tomorrow.

Button Family was finished, their assets were cleaned out by Sivey. There was no need to attack and occupy Button City anymore, otherwise this matter would turn from a border conflict into a war initiated by them.

At present, Sivey did not have the ability to undertake such a large-scale war.

As the knights dispersed, only Clement and Baine remained by the campfire.

“You broke through as a Sky Knight, Master Sivey?”

Clement was still weak at this moment, but walking was no longer a problem, and his gradually recovering Qi was nourishing his body.

Sivey nodded at the words, saying with a smile, “I broke through a few days ago, just haven’t had the chance to mention it.”

“Great… that’s great…”

Clement’s lips trembled, unable to hide his excitement, even more joyful than when he broke through as a Sky Knight himself.

“Master Sivey, you’re still so young. One day, you will definitely become a Champion Knight, or even a Legendary, it’s not impossible.”

“Perhaps one day, the flag of Eagle Territory can fly across the entire Cain Continent.”

Sivey shrugged, half-jokingly.

“Lord, the Bloodhoof Clan is willing to clear the obstacles for your path, to the utmost!”

In the desert, the chilling night wind rustled the tents. In the entire camp, except for the patrolling soldiers, everyone had sunk into slumber.
