My Wife Pretends To Be Poor Every Day Ch.10

In the end, neither of them managed to buy water, and they walked out of the store feeling miserable. Li Yueyun felt an unprecedented sense of awkwardness.

She couldn’t bear to see the little girl’s disappointed expression and turned back: “Wait, I’ll definitely get you some water.”

“Wait!” Yu Siling chased after her, looking at her determined back, afraid she might say she needed to go back and work for a couple of days to earn some money before returning to buy her water. “Wait for me, Li… Li what was it? Ah Li!”

Li Yueyun paused, turned around in surprise, and slowly pointed at herself: “Are you calling me?”

“Yes,” Yu Siling, too embarrassed to admit she forgot her name in a moment of urgency, smiled innocently, “It feels more intimate this way.”

“Alright, Lingling.”

Yu Siling: …You’re way too familiar.

Seeing her in a chubby panda costume, running around with an endearing clumsiness, Li Yueyun couldn’t help but laugh, “What’s up?”

“I was thinking we don’t necessarily have to buy water. Wait here for me, I’ll be back soon.” Yu Siling ran back to the furniture store, asked the owner for two bottles of water, and then jogged back, handing one to Li Yueyun, “Here, free water.”

“Thanks.” Li Yueyun took the water.

The two sat by the roadside. Yu Siling unscrewed the bottle cap, took a couple of sips, and then glanced sideways, “Why are you looking at me?”

“Nothing, you just look really tired,” Li Yueyun said, opening her own bottle.

“Yeah, I am a bit tired. Been standing all day.” Yu Siling fanned herself with her hand. But after all, it was her first time experiencing this kind of work, and the novelty had somewhat overcome her physical exhaustion.

If it weren’t for the stage play next month where she had to play the role of a poor college student, she wouldn’t have thought of personally experiencing this kind of job.

Her teacher had said that her previous performances were too superficial, lacking in detailed actions, and not convincing enough for the audience to believe she was a poor student.

Coincidentally, she saw this part-time job online and decided to experience the taste of working while studying.

She had to admit, her mindset had changed somewhat. Just half a day of work had already worn her out. On such a hot day, her clothes were soaked with sweat. She wondered how others managed to keep going. Thinking this, she couldn’t help but glance at the beautiful woman beside her.

Probably working at a construction site.

So tough.

Li Yueyun noticed the gaze and turned her head to look at her.

Their eyes met, the sunlight shining on the young and pretty face of the girl, even with the sweat of hard work, it was dazzling.

“Still in college?” Li Yueyun asked.

“Yes.”

Li Yueyun sighed inwardly, so she was a student working part-time.

Li Yueyun gently patted her shoulder, “That’s great, self-reliance is much better than those lazy rich kids. I really admire you.”

Yu Siling: “…” Thanks, I feel offended.

“I mean it, I really admire girls like you. Many girls your age are just obsessed with shopping, living in luxury, completely unaware of what life is really like.” Like her own younger sister.

Li Yueyun had a younger sister who had been pampered since childhood, with a big temper. Now studying abroad, every time she called, it was just to ask for living expenses, not caring about her studies, acting like she didn’t know the hardships of life.

Unlike this little friend, well-behaved and sensible, and so pretty.

People are always attracted to beautiful things, and Li Yueyun was no exception, occasionally glancing at her, as if admiring a magnificent building, utterly fascinated.

Little did she know, her words sounded like sharp knives to Yu Siling, stabbing straight into her heart, steady, accurate, and ruthless.

To be honest, she was essentially a shopaholic, especially when hanging out with her childhood friend Tao Shuqin, living the good life.

Yu Siling felt embarrassed, her conscience pricked. The other woman was clearly a hardworking construction worker, thinking she was of the same kind, hence the admiration.

She blushed with guilt, “Yeah, I don’t like those who only know how to spend money either. What’s the point of only spending without earning?”

“Right.” Li Yueyun agreed wholeheartedly, couldn’t help but sigh, “People like you are really rare.”

“Actually, I’m also…” Yu Siling was about to explain when Li Yueyun handed her the bottle and cupped her hands.

“Help me pour some water, thanks.”

“Oh, sure.” Yu Siling quickly helped, pouring water into her palms, and the other woman used it to wash her face.

Moments later, she lifted her head, her delicate features clearly visible, long curled eyelashes dripping with water droplets, her face fair and clean, exuding a stunning beauty like a lotus emerging from water. The sunlight refracted dazzling colors on her face, and Li Yueyun gave her a rainbow-like smile, “Thanks.”

Yu Siling was momentarily stunned, blurting out, “You’re really beautiful.”

Li Yueyun laughed, “You saying that lacks credibility.”

“Why?”

“Because…” Li Yueyun leaned in a bit, her hand on the ground, staring into her eyes for a moment, “I haven’t seen such beautiful eyes in a long time.”

Yu Siling’s gaze dodged, she quietly shrunk her head, revealing two red ears, and whispered, “Whose eyes have you seen before then?”

“Hmm… a little kid’s, very very small, maybe my sister’s kindergarten classmate?” Li Yueyun couldn’t remember the details from many years ago, but seeing her like this now, she really wanted to pinch her ears.

But no, they weren’t that familiar, it would be impolite.

“You just wash your face like that?” Yu Siling asked curiously, “No makeup?”

“Nope, if I’m going to the construction site, I can’t be bothered with makeup. Otherwise, it’s just like now, putting it on would be a waste.” Li Yueyun pointed at her face, amused.

“By the way, what were you about to say earlier?” Li Yueyun asked.

“Oh, I wanted to say…” Yu Siling suddenly got stuck, she glanced at Li Yueyun, didn’t dare to look her in the eyes, and turned to look ahead, “I wanted to say, taking on part-time jobs is just a necessity, life’s pressures and all.”

Yu Siling thought: After all, they were just strangers who happened to meet, let her think of me as a thrifty college student, and leave a good impression.

Sure enough, Li Yueyun’s gaze towards her softened, “That’s great, keep it up, you’re sure to achieve great things in the future.” Li Yueyun pointed at a passing car, “You’ll be able to drive one of these someday.”

“I don’t like this car,” Yu Siling blurted out.

“Huh?” The noise from the car horn was too loud, and Li Yueyun didn’t catch what she said. “What did you say?”

Yu Siling covered her lips slightly. Could she really say at this moment that she found the car too unimpressive?

Of course not.

“I don’t like cars. I think they’ve become a significant source of stress for modern young people. Working hard to save up or even taking out loans to buy a car, only to lower their quality of life—it’s just not worth it,” Yu Siling rambled on, making things up as she went.

Li Yueyun was astonished. “You actually don’t like cars?”

“Do you?” Yu Siling asked uncertainly, looking at her.

Li Yueyun was momentarily stunned. Seeing the innocent look on the young girl’s face, she couldn’t bring herself to admit that the only thing she had any shopping desire for was buying a car.

Worried that the girl might feel insecure, she cleared her throat and said, “Yeah, I don’t like them either. Cars, houses, money—I don’t like any of that.”

Yu Siling gave her a disbelieving look, then nodded hesitantly. “M-me neither.”

QAQ

“Break time’s over. I need to get back to work,” Yu Siling said as she stood up. “Do you need me to walk you out?”

“No, no, that’s fine,” Li Yueyun replied, bidding her farewell. She walked to the corner, pressed herself against the wall, and glanced back. Seeing that Yu Siling had already put on her headgear and resumed handing out flyers, she quickly slipped back into her car and sped away in her “stolen goods.”

Yu Siling was in the middle of handing out flyers when she suddenly caught sight of a car speeding past. Her eyes lit up, and she chased after it for a few steps. “Hey! It’s the Porsche I’ve been wanting! Stop! I just want to touch you!”

Ah Che (Porsche): Soon, you’ll have me.
