Grab The Heroine and Run Away Ch. 105 (Xu Jiamu x Cheng Siying)

Cheng Siying felt that carrying the black card to and from work every day was the most precious thing in the entire research institute. She wanted to find an opportunity to return the card to Xu Jiamu, but Xu Jiamu was very busy, and their conversations only stayed at casual greetings during leisure times.

A “good morning,” in the mornings, a response in the afternoon, or an evening greeting.

And a bunch of cute little pearl emojis.

Cheng Siying learned how to collect emojis. One day, while chatting with her assistant about work, she sent him a little pearl nodding emoji. The assistant asked in shock, “Sis Cheng, is that you?”

“You’re sending emojis now?”

Cheng Siying: “This little dumpling emoji is quite cute.”

Assistant: “…”

Assistant: “That’s not a dumpling!”

Cheng Siying’s understanding reply: “Oh, you call them ‘yuanxiao’ over there.”

Assistant: “Hahaha!”

“Not that, these are Xu Zhizhu’s emojis. They’re animated emojis made by her big fanbase. They’re really popular now,” the assistant explained to Cheng Siying, “Xu Zhizhu, also known as the very famous star Xu Heran, is Xu Jiamu’s younger sister.”

Cheng Siying was taken aback, “Huh?”

So that’s how it is.

She had thought that Xu Jiamu liked eating Chinese tangyuan.

The assistant sent a photo, “Look, this is Little Pearl.”

The girl in the photo was incredibly beautiful, especially those blue-violet eyes that surpassed the radiance of the Milky Way.

Since Cheng Siying had been involved in new material research, she had seen countless minerals and metals. Nature’s magic gave them wondrous colors, shaping her sense of beauty. When she was young, she repeatedly wrote in her diary that she wanted to become a researcher to discover more beautiful colors.

But humans could have eyes like these too.

Cheng Siying looked at the photo and suddenly thought of Xu Jiamu.

Xu Jiamu’s eyes were a clear, pure sky blue, complemented by her snow-white skin. A single glance was almost unforgettable, as if the stars and the sea were hidden within her gaze.

If there was a chance, Cheng Siying thought, she would like to see those magical eyes in person. Of course, she also wanted to take another look at the mysterious sky blue, because beautiful things could uplift one’s mood.

As Cheng Siying pondered, she started by searching the internet for literature about the birth of blue-violet eyes. She found that there were no papers specifically addressing this matter. She disappointedly browsed a few articles about eye colors. Then, she opened the almost-unused Weibo app. Just as she entered, a flurry of notifications chimed. They were responses from before—when she had inquired about “Ji Yichen’s” fiancée at Pinnacle Technology. Many people were messaging her, asking about the reason for her breakup with Ji Yichen and offering words of encouragement, telling her that she had seen Ji Yichen’s true face and that there would be better people waiting for her, advising her not to be heartbroken over a scumbag.

Scumbag?

Cheng Siying pondered for a moment, finding this term quite interesting for describing Ji Yichen.

Indeed, humans had an innate talent for inventing language.

Out of gratitude, Cheng Siying wanted to respond to the latest comment. However, since she hadn’t used Weibo for a while, she felt a bit unfamiliar. She clicked on the name “Pearl Shell Beijing” and entered their profile.

On the profile page, a glaring photo of two people hung there. Upon closer inspection, Cheng Siying noticed that her own profile picture was also a photo of two people.

The girl named Little Pearl, whom she had seen before, had her arms around another equally stunning girl with pitch-black hair and dark eyes, and they were both smiling brightly.

Cheng Siying was a bit puzzled. Was this Xu Jiamu’s sister?

She scrolled down, and suddenly, a series of text and photos appeared before her eyes.

Pearl Shell Beijing: “Ahhhh! The latest episode of ‘Follow Your Heart’! Little Pearl and her wife are fleeing from school!!! Ahhhh, I’m literally dying from excitement! My dear goose and daughter-in-law are such a beautiful couple! How can there be such a perfect match in the world?! Baby, I love you! Graduate soon, start a family and career! Bring Sinuo back to Mommy! @SGS Xu Jiamu @SGS Sinuo #HeartFlutteringSinuo#”

Cheng Siying’s expression gradually turned perplexed.

Hmm…?

So, Xu Jiamu’s sister actually likes girls?

The girl with blue-violet eyes is in a relationship with this black-haired girl?

Cheng Siying had no issues with same-sex love. Out of gratitude, she liked the post and, after a moment’s thought, subconsciously clicked on those blue-font characters. Indeed, they were clickable.

SGS Xu Jiamu: “Learning this today.”

A thick book on microeconomics was placed on the table.

The first comment followed.

Little Bowl Can Eat a Big Bowl: “Unfilial daughter! We want to see selfies! Selfies! Beat up Little Pearl, wailing.jpg”

It was an expression Cheng Siying hadn’t encountered before. She thought about contacting Xu Jiamu for ease of communication. So, she bookmarked the comment with various beaten-up expressions aimed at Little Pearl and followed Xu Heran.

After that, she also followed Xin Nuo’s Weibo account and took a look inside “Heart Fluttering Xin Nuo.”

Thirty minutes later, the researcher, who was almost thirty years old, exited with a flushed face.

Those people with all sorts of strange names seemed young, but… society had become so open already.

Cheng Siying sighed inwardly.

At that moment, a WeChat message popped up.

Universal Xu Jiamu: “Universal Xu Jiamu.”

Cheng Siying: “Little Pearl in Confusion.jpg.”

Universal Xu Jiamu: “My Weibo.”

Hmm?

Was she asking Cheng Siying to… follow her?

Cheng Siying returned to Weibo and discovered that Xu Jiamu had left a little pearl smiling emoji under one of her older posts. Cheng Siying quickly followed Xu Jiamu.

Mutual follow.

Cheng Siying looked at the four words and then exited Weibo.

“President Xu, do you have time today?” Cheng Siying asked. She wanted to return the black card to Xu Jiamu. Since Xu Jiamu had time to check Weibo, she shouldn’t be too busy, right?

After three minutes, Xu Jiamu replied on WeChat.

“It’s okay, want to meet?”

Cheng Siying: “Hmm.”

Xu Jiamu: “Where are you?”

Cheng Siying: “At home.”

Today was Friday night. Because the institute hadn’t returned to normal yet, everyone there was enjoying a long overdue vacation.

Xu Jiamu: “Address.”

Cheng Siying thought Xu Jiamu wanted to come over. “I’ll come find you, President Xu.”

Xu Jiamu: “No need.”

Being a CEO, they tend to be more stubborn. Cheng Siying understood.

Her finger retracted the expression package of Little Pearl getting beaten up, and with a calm expression, she typed her own address.

A minute passed.

Xu Jiamu: “Wait a moment.”

As Cheng Siying waited, thirty minutes passed. She was engrossed in a scientific research journal article about a certain metal study when her phone suddenly rang.

“Hello?”

It was a bit noisy on the other end of the phone, but the woman’s voice flowed like cold water through ice, suppressing all the noise.

“The car is downstairs, Professor Cheng.”

Cheng Siying hesitated for a moment. “Okay.”

But when she went downstairs, in front of the old residential building, parked by the entrance, was a brand-new black luxury car. There was only a driver and a secretary with a gentle smile, and it wasn’t the same one Cheng Siying had seen before.

“Professor Cheng, President Xu asked me to pick you up, please.” The secretary smiled and opened the car door for Cheng Siying.

Cheng Siying’s fingers tightened around the black card in her pocket as she got into the car.

“I thought President Xu would be here.” She whispered.

“I’m sorry.” The secretary’s expression looked somewhat embarrassed. “President Xu is currently occupied and… you’ll understand when you arrive.”

Cheng Siying nodded, glancing at her watch.

It was currently 9:30 in the evening. Cheng Siying intended to meet Xu Jiamu, return the card immediately, and then head back home to freshen up and sleep.

The black luxury car moved silently through the bustling night of the city. Cheng Siying looked at the colorful lights outside the window, her expression calm. The secretary retracted her gaze from the rearview mirror. “Professor Cheng, we have about ten minutes left.”

“Alright.”

The car’s destination was an opulent and low-profile hotel in the city. After Cheng Siying got out of the car, she followed the secretary into the hotel and took the elevator to a higher floor. When the elevator doors opened, the sound of laughter reached her ears.

The secretary Cheng Siying had met before was standing by the door. Cheng Siying heard the surprised voice of the secretary who had come to pick her up: “Where’s President Xu?”

“In the restroom.” The secretary who had brought Cheng Siying smiled at her. “Good evening, Professor Cheng.”

“Good evening.”

Cheng Siying regretted slightly. She should have directly handed the card to the secretary and not followed them inside.

“How’s President Xu?”

“She’s fine.”

They whispered to each other, and suddenly, Cheng Siying heard a familiar voice calling out, “Siying?”

Cheng Siying regretted even more. In her mind, she could see Little Pearl angrily stomping her foot in an expression package.

Her expression froze for a moment.

In the spirit of expression package contagion.

“Mr. Ji.” Cheng Siying nodded to Ji Yichen.

Behind Ji Yichen was still a crowd of people. His face carried the standard cold expression he presented to the public. Upon seeing her, a brief smile appeared. “So, you’re here too.”

“Who’s this?” Someone beside Ji Yichen inquired.

“This is Miss Cheng Siying from Cheng Institute of Bioscience.” Ji Yichen’s tone was somewhat neutral.

But others asked in surprise, “Is she the Miss Cheng who developed the new materials, the young and promising one?”

“The new materials are achievements of my father and the team. I haven’t contributed much.” Cheng Siying approached and shook hands with the person who came forward to greet her.

“Oh, not at all, you’re being modest.”

The people around Ji Yichen’s side came forward to shake hands with Cheng Siying one after another. From their conversations, Cheng Siying understood that this was a scientific exchange event organized by a highly respected elder in the industry. It included prominent companies from the industry as well as researchers from various fields.

Cheng Siying hadn’t received an invitation letter, and she momentarily felt puzzled, but she didn’t pay it much attention.

Seeing Cheng Siying being greeted by everyone with smiles, Ji Yichen’s lips curled into a shallow smile. “Siying, you’ve arrived just in time. The dance will start soon. Would you be honored to join me for a dance?”

The expressions of the people around carried smiles, but they felt a bit puzzled inside. Peak and Cheng Institute’s merger hadn’t even been a year, yet they immediately separated. Ji Yichen and Cheng Siying had also broken off their engagement. It didn’t seem like they had an amicable exchange. However, at this moment, the two of them looked like there might be some lingering feelings left?

Cheng Siying’s expression remained neutral. Just as she was about to refuse, a cold fragrance suddenly enveloped her from behind. A hand gently pressed on her shoulder and subtly guided her aside. Cheng Siying turned her surprised gaze and found herself plunged into a deep sea.

The figure in her memory, the refined and tall CEO, was now dressed in a black long dress, like a midnight rose, emanating an intoxicating fragrance. The exposed half-shoulder of the woman was next to her, and her snow-white skin was captivating. Her straight collarbones were sharp, and a diamond necklace hung at her chest, sparkling.

Xu Jiamu’s hair was pinned at the back of her head, not the meticulously arranged style she used to have. Instead, it was loose, voluminous, with a few strands of hair framing her face.

“Excuse me.”

Cheng Siying heard her low and magnetic voice, which became even more enchanting after leaving the realm of sound waves.

“Miss, she is my guest.”

Xu Jiamu lowered her gaze, her eyes roving over Cheng Siying’s face. Seeing that Cheng Siying’s expression was manageable, she lifted her eyes and addressed Ji Yichen, who was furrowing his brows.

“She is accompanying me tonight.”
