Chapter 13
Old Madam Wang, who had been sitting on the sofa, holding Qin Ge’s hand, beaming, froze upon hearing Jiang Yingxue’s explanation. She turned to look at Qin Ge beside her, and her expression instantly became strained.
Jiang Yingxue’s heart sank with a thud. She regretted not slapping herself.
I’m doomed!
This excuse was utterly absurd. She had just claimed Qin Ge was negotiating a business deal, only for him to appear by Grandma’s side moments later, completely discrediting her. Worse, Grandma was incredibly sharp and would undoubtedly see through the lie.
Jiang Yingxue glared at Qin Ge on the sofa, clenching her fists so tightly her knuckles whitened.
It’s all Qin Ge’s fault!
That jerk was doing this on purpose! He had deliberately ignored her messages and refused to discuss things with her. And now, he was enjoying her humiliation in front of Grandma!
Old Madam Wang’s face darkened as she glared at Jiang Yingxue. “What exactly is going on here?”
Qin Ge squeezed the old woman’s hand, smiling. “Grandma, can’t you see? We were planning a surprise for you, but Xiaoxue drove too slowly. I arrived first and couldn’t resist coming to see you right away, which is why things turned out this way.”
Grandma turned to Qin Ge, her face softening into a gentle smile. “Really?”
Qin Ge nodded emphatically. “Of course it’s true! It’s been exactly thirty-one days, nine hours, twenty-eight minutes, and seven… no, eight seconds since I last saw you, Grandma.”
Grandma burst out laughing at Qin Ge’s few teasing words.
She held Qin Ge’s hand, her eyes brimming with affection, and said, “My Qin Ge’s mouth is as sweet as honey. You’re not just trying to flatter your grandma, are you?”
Qin Ge shook his head vigorously. “Of course not!”
Studying Qin Ge’s face, Grandma murmured suspiciously, “Why do I feel like you’ve become even more handsome than before?”
Qin Ge couldn’t help but smile.
What was my Charm stat before?
Ever since taking the Beauty Pill and Temperament Pill, his temperament and looks had been maxed out.
Of course he was more handsome than before.
His looks were even more durable than his physique, honestly.
Hearing this, Jiang Yingxue examined Qin Ge as if seeing him for the first time.
Qin Ge seemed truly different from before.
More handsome, more pleasing to the eye.
Not a single flaw to be found.
If she had to describe him in a word, “peerlessly handsome” seemed the perfect fit.
Qin Ge clasped Grandma’s wrinkled hands in both of his. “Grandma, you’ve become even more beautiful too.”
Speak appropriately for the occasion.
He had mastered these social skills on Earth long ago.
And what could be easier than flattering a beloved old lady?
Grandma playfully patted Qin Ge’s hand. “Nonsense, how old do you think I am? My face is covered in wrinkles.”
Qin Ge shook his head. “Beauty lies in bone structure, not just skin! Grandma, your bone structure is nearly perfect. Yingxue inherited your beauty; otherwise, how could she have become Yunhai City’s top beauty?”
“If you were a few decades younger, Grandma, the title of Yunhai City’s top beauty would have to change hands!”
Jiang Yingxue hastily sat beside her grandmother, hugging her closely and muttering affectionately, “Grandma, you’re so beautiful! Your old photos are even better than mine.”
The old woman feigned offense, huffing, “So, you’re saying I was only slightly less beautiful than you when I was young?”
Jiang Yingxue made a gesture that would make a man’s heart collapse. “Just this tiny bit less.”
“You and your vanity!” The old woman poked Jiang Yingxue’s smooth forehead, her eyes growing cloudy with wistful regret. “With your temper, Qin Ge is the only one who can tolerate you.”
She glared at Jiang Yingxue. “If I ever find out you’re bullying Qin Ge again, I’ll give you the beating of your life!”
Qin Ge flexed his biceps, showing off to the old woman. “Grandma, look at these muscles! Yingxue bullying me? I could knock the shit out of her with one punch!”
Even the old woman choked at that.
She glanced at her slender granddaughter.
The old woman couldn’t help but chuckle.
She shook her head, grasped Jiang Yingxue’s and Qin Ge’s hands, and placed them together.
Jiang Yingxue instinctively tried to pull away.
Though she and Qin Ge were boyfriend and girlfriend, they hadn’t yet had much physical contact. She felt somewhat awkward.
But since this was in front of Grandma, she didn’t dare withdraw her hand. She could only endure it silently, her face flushed with embarrassment.
The old woman turned to Qin Ge, her voice earnest. “Child, Xiaoxue has a bit of a temper, but deep down, she’s not a bad person.”
“I wouldn’t trust her to just anyone.”
Her cloudy eyes gazed at Qin Ge with deep emotion. “Child, can you promise Grandma? After I’m gone, you’ll never let Xiaoxue be wronged?”
“If she dares to bully you, scold her, even hit her if you must, but never abandon her.”
“I’m afraid that after I’m gone, no one will ever truly care for Xiaoxue.”
Jiang Yingxue hugged her grandmother, choking back sobs of grievance. “Grandma, don’t talk nonsense! You won’t die! You’ll live to be a hundred!”
Old Madam Wang counted on her fingers, “That means I still have twelve years left.”
Jiang Yingxue shook her head vehemently. “No! Grandma will live to be a hundred and twenty, two hundred years old!”
I don’t care!
I just can’t accept that Grandma will leave me!
Old Madam Wang chuckled self-deprecatingly, “Then Grandma would become a thousand-year-old turtle?”
Qin Ge chimed in, “Or a ten-thousand-year-old tortoise.”
Jiang Yingxue glared up at Qin Ge, snapping, “You’re the turtle!”
“Y-you, you, you!” Old Madam Wang raised her hand, feigning a slap at Jiang Yingxue. “What’s wrong with turtles? If Grandma were a turtle, she could live for ten thousand years!”
“Grandma’s not even gone yet, and you’re already bullying Qin Ge.”
“Do you want to make Grandma die of anger?”
Old Madam Wang grabbed Jiang Yingxue’s hand and slapped the back of it several times.
It would have been better if she hadn’t hit her at all. The forceful movement left her gasping for breath.
The shortness of breath intensified rapidly.
In less than half a minute, Old Madam Wang began trembling violently, like a leaf in a storm.
“The medicine! The medicine!” Jiang Yingxue shrieked, pointing frantically at her grandmother’s handbag.
Qin Ge suppressed the urge to respond to Chekenao, pulled out a large pile of capsules from his bag, and frowned at Jiang Yingxue. “When was the last time she took this medicine?”
Jiang Yingxue immediately replied, “Two and a half hours ago.”
Qin Ge shook his head. “This medicine puts too much strain on her heart. Multiple doses within a short period are dangerous and could cause serious complications.”
Jiang Yingxue suddenly recalled the doctor’s warning, her eyes brimming with tears. “Then what should we do? Right, call an ambulance! Call an ambulance!”
Qin Ge raised his hand to stop her. “It would take at least half an hour for an ambulance to get here. We don’t have that kind of time.”
He scooped up the trembling old woman in his arms and carried her straight to Jiang Yingxue’s bedroom.
After gently placing the old woman on the bed, he extended his hand and began performing smooth, practiced acupressure on her pressure points.
In Western medicine, the old woman’s condition would be described as palpitations, a sudden spike in blood pressure, and related complications.
But in traditional Chinese medicine, it’s simply a case of Qi stagnation.
A skilled TCM practitioner with the right methods can easily restore the flow.
Fortunately, after acquiring the medical skill Miraculous Healing, Qin Ge’s command of traditional Chinese medicine methods was effortless, rivaling even the most revered masters in the field!
