I Obviously Just Want to be a Minor Character CH.1
Chapter 1: Is it too high-profile?
The city under the night sky was colorful and vibrant under the neon lights.
People walked on the straight road, accompanied by a green belt of beautiful flowers, green grass, and tall trees. Even on a slightly hot summer night, they felt a bit cooler.
Colorful Lights.
Crystal-clear river water.
Together with the sparkling Rainbow Bridge in the distance and the noise everywhere.
All of these had already repeated countless times in this city.
This was daily life.
This was normal.
Until
Bang
A loud noise like thunder suddenly appeared in one corner of the city.
A black shadow broke through the solid wall at one corner of the busy street and rushed out from the flying debris.
The black shadow wasn’t big, only about the size of an adult, but its speed was as fast as a speeding car. In the blink of an eye, it rushed out from the flying debris and charged onto the street.
Upon closer inspection, it was a monster with fly-like wings and a bee-like body that was both bloated and segmented. It was covered in a sickly green color that made people feel physically uncomfortable.
The monster’s appearance broke the quiet summer night in the city, plunging the entire street into chaos.
“A spirit demon!”
“The spirit demon appeared!”
“Run!”
The people on the streets let out cries of terror at the sight of this.
They ran away in a panic while screaming in fear, causing countless vehicles to lose balance and crash into each other on the streets.
People who were caught up in this chaos didn’t notice that the creature they called a “spirit demon” was also running away in a panic.
It stared at the people on the streets, its eyes shining with a bloodthirsty and cruel light as if it had seen food.
Clearly, to it, humans were no different from food.
However, this monster had no choice but to abandon so much food and flee to the other side of the street in a panic.
At that moment, three figures rushed out from the wall that had been broken by the monster.
They were all wearing the same uniform and looked to be quite young. There was even a hint of youthfulness on their faces, and they looked to be no more than seventeen or eighteen years old.
But, seeing these three young kids, the monster actually ran away even faster.
“Don’t think you can escape!”
A clean and fair boy who looked like a scholarly student extended his hand toward the monster in anger.
A mysterious ring composed of strange characters and patterns suddenly appeared on his arm, swept to his wrist, and finally to the palm of his hand, like a cannon muzzle aiming at the fleeing monster.
“Seventh Form: Ash Bind.”
The mysterious ring floating in front of the boy’s palm instantly began to glow.
Buzz!
In the buzzing sound, a black ash appeared with a sudden gust of wind.
The black ash intertwined like ropes, resembling a gray mist that swiftly wrapped around the fleeing monster.
Bang!
Caught off guard, the monster crashed into the wall of black ash and was sent flying like a ball.
“Jī!”
The monster immediately let out a panicked scream and turned, but it was still thrown back by the black ash.
“Lei Hao! Hurry up!”
The clean and neat uniformed boy shouted.
“Leave it to me!”
One of the other boys in uniform responded and rushed forward.
He was different from the clean and neat scholar. He was well built, his limbs were powerful, his skin was slightly tanned, and he carried a large sword over his shoulder. Like a charging tank, not only did he break through the car blocking his path but also ingrained deep footprints onto the ground as he ran.
This powerful charge was incomparably fast, making him speed by like a bullet and swiftly caught up to the monster trapped in the black ash.
Roar
With a roar of a wild beast, the burly boy named Lei Hao crushed the stone beneath his feet and shot up into the sky like a human cannonball, soaring to the top of the monster.
“Get down here!”
Under the roar, the large sword carried by Lei Hao was raised high and heavily struck the monster’s body.
“Pfft!”
The monster didn’t even have time to react before it was cut in half.
The two halves of the body crashed to the ground, splattering blood everywhere, staining the ground red.
“Hmph!”
Lei Hao grimaced.
“Pah!”
Before Lei Hao could land on the ground, the monster that had been cut in half suddenly began to wriggle. The two halves of its body also began to move toward one another, as if they were going to reattach themselves.
“Tch, I really should have used a spiritual technique to eliminate these demons with regenerative abilities.”
Lei Hao landed on a streetlight, his tongue sticking out of his mouth as he cursed. He turned around and called out to the other side of the street.
“I’ll leave the rest to you, Su Ming!”
As soon as Lei Hao’s voice rang out, the last uniformed boy slowly walked out from the other end of the street.
He was different from the other two. He didn’t have fair skin or was well built, and his appearance was normal. He didn’t look particularly remarkable, but his eyes were deep and bright, giving people the impression that he was thinking about something else.
He slowly walked toward the monsters that were lying in a pool of blood, reconnecting with its other part to prepare for its revival. Meanwhile, mysterious runes appeared on his arms like the clean uniformed boy.
In total there were three circles, mysterious words and patterns flowed across them as if they were forming some sort of image to complete the circle.
By the time the three circles had formed and reached Su Ming’s palm, he had arrived in front of the monsters.
“Jī!”
The monster seemed to have sensed danger. It no longer cared about its regenerating body and suddenly exploded, howling as they pounced on Su Ming.
But at that moment, Su Ming lifted his hand.
“Twenty-eighth Form: Spiral Fire.”
In an instant, scorching flames erupted into a whirlpool.
The incomplete monster was engulfed by the flames before it could reach Su Ming.
A miserable scream rang out.
The temperature around it began to rise.
The fiery glow illuminated the corners of the chaotic streets, dyeing all the surrounding buildings red.
By the time the ground, dyed red by blood, was scorched black, the monster had been burned to ashes within the flames. The ashes and soot were carried away by the wind.
“It worked!”
Lei Hao clenched his fist and cheered from afar.
“Phew.”
The clean-faced young man also let out a sigh of relief.
Clap clap clap clap
The crowd of civilians exchanged glances after the chaos had calmed down and then began to cheer and clap.
“Good job!”
“Nice work!”
“Amazing! I can’t believe someone so young could kill a spirit demon.”
“Look at their uniforms. They must be students from the Demon-Hunting Academy.”
“Then they must be warlocks?”
“They could also be hunters.”
“Whether they’re warlocks or hunters, it’s amazing that they could kill a spirit demon!”
“That’s right!”
The crowd began to discuss amongst themselves as they clapped.
Su Ming furrowed his brows slightly and looked at the people surrounding them. Instead of feeling proud of himself, he became more wary.
‘This is too high-profile.’ Su Ming thought.
‘If I’d known this was going to happen, I would’ve used a lower-ranked spiritual technique to disguise myself.’
At the same time, Su Ming was having this thought, Lei Hao jumped from above the crowd with a sword in one hand and a pair of wings in the other, causing many passersby to cry out in alarm.
“Finally! Finished this damn mission.” Lei Hao grinned as he displayed the wings in his hand. “We’ve got our trophy too. Call Ye Bai and let’s get out of here!”
Lei Hao’s flippant attitude made the clean-cut young man who had squeezed through the crowd angry.
“Get out of here?!” Ye Bai hit Lei Hao’s head with his fist. “You think we wouldn’t be held accountable if we ran? If you hadn’t been so careless, this screaming demon wouldn’t have broken through our encirclement and run out onto the streets. Luckily no one was hurt, or you would have gotten us all killed!”
“Don’t say that.” Lei Hao shrank back and laughed awkwardly. “I was just worried that this screaming demon would run back to the Spiritual Demon Prison. I didn’t mean to.”
“You didn’t mean to?” Ye Bai said irritably. “That’s why you hunters are all the same. You only know how to dig up your latent potential and think of ways to improve your bloodline. You don’t use your heads to think about problems and are all just a bunch of bullies!”
“Yes, yes, yes, you warlocks are the smartest of us all. Are you happy now?” Lei Hao said nonchalantly. “The mission’s done, we’ve recovered the wings of the demon, so let’s go back and hand in our report!”
Ye Bai didn’t know what to say and could only sigh.
Su Ming saw this and knew that their daily bickering was over. He spoke up like a mediator.
“Since that’s the case, let’s head back to the academy.”
With that, Su Ming ended this sudden incident.
Not long after, the sound of sirens rang out.
Su Ming and his group left together, leaving behind a mess and a story that would be talked about for a while.
Of course, it wouldn’t be anything too big.
At least, that was how it was in this world.
Su Ming watched Lei Hao and Ye Bai start bickering again for some reason. He lifted his head and looked at the night sky.
The night sky was filled with stars, which was completely different from the night skies in the big cities that Su Ming remembered.
In his memories, the night sky in big cities he was already unable to see the stars.
But here, they could be seen.
Because this place wasn’t Earth.
Or rather, it had become unlike Earth.
“Who would have thought that after waking up, the world would have changed into this?”
The city was still that city, but its name had changed.
The people around him were still the people he had known since he was young, but they had also changed.
Even Su Ming himself had changed to a point where he couldn’t be compared to his past self.
The proof was the demon’s wings in his hand and this world where monsters naturally appeared.
