The Players And The Protagonist Want To Kill Me – Volume 1, Chapter 31

Chapter 31: Minor Antagonists Die from Talking Too Much

Bayden Bloodfang’s heart was filled with regret. He had been too impatient and underestimated the strength of those strange humans, as well as the strength of the human army, especially that foreign lord.

Why did humans have so many mages?

Why did the strange humans always seem endless in their killings?

Why would those special and powerful Tauren follow a human lord?

Bayden Bloodfang was filled with confusion and incomprehension, but now that things had come to this, there was no use in asking more questions.

He looked at the encircling human army, his expression defeated, as if he would accept being killed or tortured at will.

Talrand glanced at the half-dead Orc Chieftain on the ground with a flash of satisfaction in his eyes. He trotted over to Sivey’s horse and smiled obsequiously:

“Count, my Black River Territory is indeed small, and I can’t gather ten thousand Gold coins or five hundred pieces of Equipment for now. However, I have prepared an IOU. I will first pay five thousand Gold coins, two hundred sets of standard armor and food. The rest will be delivered within a year. What do you think?”

Talrand said, then took out a promissory note stamped with the empire’s seal from the lining of his clothes and handed it to Sivey with both hands.

Sivey glanced at the promissory note in his hand, saw no problem, and handed it to Clement, gesturing for him to take care of it.

Seeing Sivey accept the promissory note, Talrand immediately seized the opportunity:

“Count, I have an unpleasant request. Can you hand over this orc Chieftain to me for handling? He has caused too much slaughter in the Black River Territory, and I want to gather the people to execute him publicly.”

Sivey roughly understood Talrand’s intentions. It was nothing more than wanting to use the Orc Chieftain’s head to exchange for some military exploits to compensate for this loss and also to establish his majestic image in front of the people.

He didn’t mind this. After all, he was already a Count. The military exploits of a hundred orc Chieftains were not enough for him to rise any further. It was better to just settle Talrand down.

If pushed too hard, it could be troublesome if the dog felt cornered and retaliated.

The most casualties in this battle were the knights and militiamen under Talrand. Players could Resurrect, so they didn’t count.

Sivey only lost eight knights, more than forty sword and shield soldiers, and only one Tauren Warrior was lightly injured. The ten thousand Gold coins extorted would be enough to make up for the losses.

This was undoubtedly a great victory.

After clearing the battlefield, Sivey and his group returned to Black River Town at Talrand’s invitation.

“Count, our celebration banquet is ready. Won’t you really attend?”

“No need,” Sivey glanced at Baron Talrand, who was smiling all over his face, waved his hand impatiently, and urged, “You now bring out the five thousand Gold coins, Equipment, and food. I’m in a hurry.”

To be honest, after three days out, he was starting to miss his pretty maid a bit.

Seeing Sivey’s firm expression, Talrand didn’t persuade him anymore and pretended to be regretful, saying, “Well, in that case, please wait outside Black River Castle, everyone. I’ll go back and call the knights to move the stuff out.”

Talrand didn’t actually call the knights to move the supplies but instead brought the orc Chieftain to the terrace of the castle. From here, he could overlook Sivey’s group completely.

“Old thing, do you recognize this?”

Talrand sneered, took out a scroll from his chest, and waved it in front of Bayden Bloodfang, who had a deadpan expression.

Bayden Bloodfang lifted his eyelids and a trace of surprise flashed in his eyes.

“Do you recognize it?”

Bayden Bloodfang certainly did. The scroll in the human’s hand was an Earthquake Scroll of the Orcs.

The Earthquake Scroll was made by the orc high priests and could only be activated by an Orc Chieftain, a strategic spell scroll used specifically to destroy city walls, but it worked quite well against small armies too.

“Where did you get it? Are you so sure that I will be defeated?”

Bayden Bloodfang instantly understood what the cunning human lord in front of him wanted to do. He enjoyed watching humans kill each other, especially since there was a powerful lord among the people under the castle.

Every internal conflict among humans strengthened the Orcs.

“It’s a trophy my father took from killing an Orc Chieftain. If it weren’t for Doug reminding me, I wouldn’t have known about this thing, let alone thought it would come in handy today.”

Saying this, Talrand also praised Doug with a glance, then continued:

“I’m not sure you will be defeated, but if you are defeated without this scroll, I will give that bastard ten thousand Gold coins! If you win, both he and I will die, but with this scroll, if you fail, I win, and he dies! “

“You are indeed a courageous lord!”

Bayden Bloodfang said with a smile.

Just unsure whether this sentence was praising or mocking.

“So you’re willing to help me use this scroll?” Talrand was somewhat surprised at the words, thinking it would take some effort.

“If you’re willing to cooperate with me, I can spare your life,” Talrand replied.

“No need. I’m willing to serve you and help you use the Earthquake Scroll to kill the lord and his army below. Afterwards, I only hope you’ll bury me on the battlefield, as that’s where I belong,” Bayden Bloodfang said calmly.

“Deal. So, come with me then.”

“It’s actually not that troublesome. Activating the Earthquake Scroll only requires my blood and a piece of Orc language.”

Sivey and his soldiers waited outside the castle for half a day without receiving any Gold coins or Equipment. Instead, they were greeted by the suddenly closed castle gates and a very arrogant-looking Talrand on the castle terrace.

At this moment, under the protection of his guards, Talrand stood on the castle terrace, showing only his upper body, looking down on Sivey and his group.

“Respected Eagle Count, good evening. I now have to tell you some bad news.”

Talrand gazed at Sivey and his group with bitterness, his expression gradually turning fierce.

In a chant-like tone, he loudly proclaimed, “Imperial Star, second son of the Golden Lion family, your end is near~”

“Die from, Earthquake Spell!”

Talrand took out the activated Earthquake Scroll, waving it up and down. “This is an activated Earthquake Scroll. I just need to recite the orc language…”

His short arms stretched out as if to embrace the moon, excitedly saying, “Rumble! You will be buried in the soil because of you, your greed! Eagle Count, Sivey Golden Lion!”

“Do you have any last words now? Respected Eagle Count, Sivey Golden Lion?”

Sivey looked up at Talrand, who was dancing on the castle terrace like a madman, and smiled with a caring expression.

“My last words? What last words can I have? You, a waste who hasn’t even lived properly, want to kill me?”

“What?”

Talrand thought he had misheard. He waved the scroll in his hand angrily and roared, “Do you know what you’re saying? I have the Earthquake Spell in my hand!”

“Very well. I was originally thinking of seeing you begging for mercy…”

“But since you’re not shedding tears until you see the coffin…”

Talrand was about to tear open the scroll in his hand.

“Get rid of… ugh…”

At this moment, with a “swish,” a sword stabbed into Talrand’s heart from behind, the intense pain almost causing him to faint.

Talrand turned back with great effort and saw that the assassin was his most trusted guard. He had given him the map of the Black River Territory, discussed all the intelligence with him, including this plan…

Unexpectedly…

His fingers twitched unconsciously, and the Earthquake Scroll fell lightly from his hand to the ground.

“Sorry, Baron Talrand, you talk too much.”

“I’ve been waiting impatiently!”

“If it weren’t for wanting to preserve this usable Earthquake Scroll, I would have killed you yesterday.”

“Ho… How… could… you…”

“Are you trying to ask how it could be me, right?”

The guard standing behind Talrand blinked and said, “I can actually understand your feelings. After all, you’re just a mere Baron. You would never have thought that your most trusted guard would be from the Golden Lion family.”

“You… you… Golden… scheming… nation.”

“Baron Talrand, be careful what you say. If it weren’t for you insisting on fighting to the death with Young Master Sivey today, I might never have killed you in my lifetime.”

With a slight smile, the guard then threw Talrand to the ground and picked up the scroll amidst Talrand’s gradually hollow gaze.
