Fall In Love With A Substitute

Chapter 100

After breakfast, the butler timely handed a document to Song Sen. Before it could be handed to Song Sen, it was intercepted by Liu Ying, who began to read it word by word. Her face grew increasingly grim, angry and infuriated, her hand shaking as she held the document. Song Sen dared not let her continue reading, taking the document into his own hands.

Song Pianxian probably guessed what it was about. She stood up and walked to Liu Ying’s side, standing beside her, and embraced her mother’s shoulder, saying:

“I’ve returned to the Song Family, and he dares not do anything to me anymore. Please don’t be sad.”

“Why wouldn’t he dare? He shamelessly entered the house yesterday.” Liu Ying almost gritted her teeth, her eyes turning red.

Song Pianxian gently patted her shoulder. Seeing the two children still there, she gestured to them to go back to their rooms.

Xiang Sixi and Song Fei slowly headed upstairs.

After quickly scanning through it, Song Sen slammed the document on the table.

“Such worthless descendants are everywhere, but he shouldn’t provoke my daughter. It serves him right that his luck is bad.”

Song Sen spoke in a calm tone. As a man, he didn’t regard Xi Heng’s series of actions as unforgivable crimes, but as a father, Xi Heng had bullied his daughter.

If she were just an ordinary female college student, no one among the common people could stand up for Song Pianxian against him, but he happened to have touched the current sore spot of the Song Family.

Liu Ying said, “My daughter can’t suffer this injustice for nothing. Yesterday’s lesson was too shallow.”

Song Sen replied, “Of course.”

However, after pondering for a moment, she continued, “Xi Heng is from the Xi Family, and Fu Siyuan is still Xi Zihua’s Father…”

Liu Ying snorted, “What kind of person is Xi Heng in the Xi Family?”

But she also understood her husband’s considerations.

After all, the Xi Family was an old acquaintance in their circle. Although they had lost their power, the world was not all about kicking someone when they were down. Just by seeing that Xi Zihua could slowly rise again with her foundation, one could understand the subtleties here. If one wasn’t careful, it would hurt their relationship.

Not to mention, Nie Lingbo, who had been getting close to their family recently, wasn’t she the benefactor Xi Zihua relied on to rise again?

You couldn’t just help her on one hand and harm her on the other hand.

Liu Ying gritted her teeth. This was a case of shared glory and shared loss. If they harmed one family member, they would harm the other. How could they split this family into two?

At this moment, she heard her daughter say, “Actually, my cousin once told me about the entanglement within the Xi Family. I didn’t expect Xi Heng to be his father’s illegitimate son.”

“My cousin also said that, although Fu Siyuan had an affair, the Xi Family’s assets should have been inherited by Xi Zihua and her younger brother. Instead, they were all given to Xi Heng. They are father and son thieves who stole the Xi Family’s assets.”

Song Pianxian held Liu Ying’s hand, her gaze somewhat sad but firm.

“We broke up a long time ago, everyone knows it. Xi Heng’s true love is… is my cousin. Why did he come to see me yesterday? If I were with him, would the Song Family become an accomplice in harming the Xi Family? When I think about this, I feel that Xi Heng’s intentions are unfathomable.”

Song Sen decisively stated, “I will not marry my daughter to such a person.”

Liu Ying followed, “He has taken advantage of your kindness. Look, not to mention us, did you see if your cousin had a good face for him? He’s like a toad wanting to eat swan meat. Mom will take care of him to vent for her daughter!”

Liu Ying bypassed Song Sen and directly dropped these words. Her maternal family was not much worse than the Song Family. The head of the Liu family was still her twin brother. If Liu Ying was determined to seek justice for her daughter, she didn’t need to consider Song Sen’s opinion at all.

Song Sen helplessly glanced at his wife, who was fired up. He was about to calm her emotions down when he saw his daughter handing a glass of water to his wife, her voice as gentle as water:

“Please calm down. I thought about it for a long time yesterday. I don’t hate Xi Heng, but he and his parents should pay the price for their arrogance and self-righteousness.”

“As for the price… they have their current status by stepping on the backbone of the Xi Family. Letting them return what they stole would be enough.”

Song Sen was somewhat surprised as he looked at his daughter.

While Liu Ying was emotionally overwhelmed and losing her rationality due to her protective instinct for her daughter, their daughter, as the person involved, could remain rational and calmly express these words.

It’s worth noting that Song Pianxian was just a recent graduate who had entered society. Most people of her age were full of youthful energy and impulsive, but her behavior was enough to surprise and even impress Song Sen.

He looked at Song Pianxian with almost admiration and said, “It’s very commendable that you can say this.”

Intending to test his daughter further, he continued, “What if they refuse to return it?”

Song Pianxian blinked lightly, somewhat mischievously, “Cousin said that her friend Xi Zihua is planning to challenge Xi Heng.”

“Family matters of the Xi Family should be resolved by the Xi Family. We, the Song Family, just need to help — just like what my cousin did, helping friends. No one can find fault with that.”

Seeing his daughter giving the standard answer, Song Sen was extremely satisfied. He laughed heartily several times.

“No one will blame us for the Song Family.”

Song Pianxian smiled, with just the right amount of shyness in front of her parents.

Liu Ying watched the scene of father and daughter chatting happily, and her emotions gradually settled down, even tasting a bit of family happiness.

Returning to the Song Family, what she worried most about was that the Song Family couldn’t truly accept their daughter who had been absent for many years, making it difficult for her to integrate, especially with her husband.

But now, it seemed much better than she had expected. Perhaps this was the nature of father-daughter relationships, the closest of blood ties.

Liu Ying gradually revealed a broad smile and teased, “You, always mentioning your cousin. Is Lingbo really that great?”

Song Pianxian openly admitted, “Cousin is excellent. I want to be like her.”

Before Liu Ying could respond, Song Sen exclaimed, “Good!”

“Good! If my daughter can become the second Nie Lingbo, who can rival the brilliance of the Song Family in the future.”

The more he thought about it, the more he felt pleased. Without much nurturing, his daughter had already shown extraordinary social skills and some intelligence. With a little cultivation, she might truly be a gem.

If there was anything Song Sen lacked, it was a successor to inherit his bloodline and talent. Song Pianxian’s appearance showed him the possibility. Song Sen’s affection for Song Pianxian was skyrocketing, almost surpassing Liu Ying’s.

The focus of this conversation had shifted.

Song Pianxian had achieved her goal. She convinced Song Sen and Liu Ying to support Xi Zihua, which would put Xi Heng’s family back where they belonged.

With Song Sen’s intention to nurture Song Pianxian, he readily provided assistance, letting her contact Xi Zihua.

This was also because elders shouldn’t meddle in the affairs of the younger generation. It was more reasonable for Song Pianxian to handle it, and it would also allow her to make some friends in high society.

The butterfly pastries had been packed by the servants in a pastry box, waiting for Song Pianxian to take them out.

Song Pianxian changed into her clothes and prepared to go downstairs when she remembered one more thing she hadn’t done.

She knocked on Song Fei’s door, “Fei, it’s me.”

Click.

The sound of the door opening came from behind Song Pianxian. She turned her head to look.

“Xixi?”

Xiang Sixi leaned against the door, “Sister, are you going out? To see Sister Lingbo?”

Song Pianxian nodded.

Xiang Sixi said, “I want to go out too. Take me with you, Big Sister.”

Before Song Pianxian could speak, the door in front of her opened again, and Song Fei stood at the doorway, holding the handle and said:

“Why are you looking for me?”

With a girl standing in front of and behind her, Song Pianxian didn’t know who to talk to for a moment.

Song Pianxian stood a little further away and included both of them in her sight.

She first replied to Xiang Sixi, “Are you looking for Xingzhou? I’m not going to the Nie Family today, but to the Nie Family company headquarters. If you want to see Xingzhou, I’ll have the driver take you.”

Then she said to Song Fei, “Did you not sleep well last night, Little Fei? I had Aunt Xu stew some crucian carp soup. Remember to drink some before lunch.”

Song Fei tightened her grip on the door handle, glanced at Song Pianxian, pursed her lips, and dryly replied:

“Okay.”

After her response, Xiang Sixi raised her hand, “I want to drink too.”

“Oh, there’s plenty. You and Little Fei can drink together.”

Xiang Sixi happily said, “Okay, Big Sister.”

But Song Fei inexplicably felt annoyed by Xiang Sixi’s chatter, probably because of last night’s dream.

She glared at Xiang Sixi behind Song Pianxian.

Drink, drink, drink. I’ll get you for this soup.

It was Song Pianxian’s first time going to the Nie Group, and the original owner had never been here either.

She intended to call Nie Lingbo downstairs, but as soon as she took out her phone, the receptionist beside her eagerly asked who she was looking for.

So Song Pianxian said Nie Lingbo’s name.

As soon as the receptionist heard it was Nie Lingbo, she couldn’t help but look at Song Pianxian more, and Song Pianxian calmly let them look.

Immediately, one of them made a call to the office, while the other respectfully said:

“Miss, you don’t have an appointment. President Nie is very busy and may not be able to see you.”

Song Pianxian nodded. “There should be a meeting this morning, right?”

The receptionist, sounding as if she was about to send Song Pianxian away with an air of certainty that the CEO wouldn’t meet with guests, said:

“Yes, if you could understand—”

“Miss, the CEO requests your presence upstairs. Allow me to lead the way for you. This way, please.”

Huh? The words of the receptionist, who was about to send off the guest, got stuck in her throat, and she couldn’t help but frantically seek confirmation from her colleague with her eyes.

Song Pianxian smiled and thanked them, “Thank you.”

The colleague respectfully guided Song Pianxian to the elevator and then turned back to the reception desk.

The receptionist who was about to send off the guest muttered, “There should be a meeting this morning, right?”

The guiding receptionist whispered, “Stop it. I just heard President Nie telling Assistant Jiang on the phone that today’s meeting has been canceled.”

“…President Nie, who never misses meetings and values time management the most, canceled the company meeting for a beautiful Little Sister. What kind of CEO drama is this?”

Unaware of the discussion behind her, Song Pianxian went upstairs, where Jiang Nan was waiting for her at the elevator. He led her to Nie Lingbo’s office.

Jiang Nan opened the door for her, and Song Pianxian walked in. Jiang Nan closed the door from the outside and left Song Pianxian alone in the spacious office, facing Nie Lingbo behind her desk.

Nie Lingbo was wearing a white shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to reveal a fair forearm. She wore silver-rimmed glasses while working, her long hair tied up neatly, exuding a sharp sense of beauty.

She had a pile of files on her desk and kept her eyes on them, seemingly oblivious to the door opening.

But Song Pianxian didn’t buy it.

Song Pianxian glanced at the pastry box in her hand. She wouldn’t forget how Lin Qinglu stopped her when she was carrying butterfly pastries in the first world.

Nie Lingbo might be immersed in her work and didn’t hear any noise, but as a butterfly pastry detector, she must be able to smell it.

Pretending to be serious.

One second, two seconds, three seconds.

Three light sweeps of the second hand on her wristwatch. In the office, there was still no sound of footsteps.

Nie Lingbo flicked through the pages, raising her head to look towards the door.

At a glance, her eyes met with the other’s gaze.

Song Pianxian had been looking at her all along. She was wearing a white dress again.

“What are you standing at the door for?” Nie Lingbo said lightly.

Song Pianxian didn’t move, standing and calling out, “Big Sister.”

Nie Lingbo leaned against the back of her chair, twirling her fingers, responding ambiguously, “Hmm?”

“Big Sister.” Song Pianxian smiled, her eyes like ripples in the water, “Are you angry?”

Song Pianxian raised her hand, lifting up the delicately patterned cake box, “I made butterfly pastries for you. Don’t be angry, okay?”

Nie Lingbo squinted, looking at Song Pianxian.

She stood at the door, unwilling to come over easily, yet using the sweet taste and pure smile to tempt herself recklessly.

The second hand of the watch ticked away.

“I’m not angry,” Nie Lingbo said softly.

“If you don’t come over now, I’ll be angry.”
