Chapter 133
Chapter 133: Happy New Year from Cousin
Fu Chengque became even more enthusiastic, starting from the departure, recounting what she saw along the way, what she heard, what her grandmother said when she arrived, and all the trivial chatter among relatives.
By the end, she was parched and went to the two fathers to ask for tea.
Just then, from the kitchen came Wen Yu’s mother’s call, “Dinner’s ready!”
Hearing this, Mother Fu also took charge, instructing Wen Yu and Fu Chengque to bring dishes and utensils. She then turned to criticize the two men who were deeply engrossed in their game by the plum tree.
“You two only know how to play! It’s time to eat!”
Father Fu placed the chess piece he had been holding for a long time back to its original place, and without looking up, replied, “Coming, coming.”
With that, he scattered the pieces, and resigned.
Father Wen laughed, “You’re too kind!”
Father Fu sneered, “Kindness? Have you been secretly practicing lately? Otherwise, how could I not figure out your move?”
“I lost fair and square, why argue?”
“I haven’t lost yet, let’s have another round after dinner. I’ve figured out how to break your strategy…”
“Bring it on.”
This competitive spirit extended to drinking as well.
The two fathers continued to drink one cup after another at the dinner table, while the mothers paid no attention and chatted about other household matters.
Under the table, Wen Yu and Fu Chengque were playing tricks.
The biggest meatball in the dish caught their eyes simultaneously. Wen Yu moved faster, and before Fu Chengque could react, it was already in his stomach. Irritated, she had no choice but to give him a kick under the table.
The first kick hit the mark.
Wen Yu retaliated with another kick.
Wasn’t he being too much?
Fu Chengque attempted to retaliate with a second kick but was thwarted by Wen Yu.
After a brief struggle, Fu Chengque managed to escape, albeit losing one of her slippers.
Wen Yu took her slipper and tucked it under his chair, ignoring her attempts to reclaim it.
Finally, Fu Chengque, summoning up her courage, reached out to retrieve it, but Wen Yu pretended to pick up chopsticks and grabbed her ankle.
Startled, she jumped, only to realize that Wen Yu hadn’t done anything unusual, just put her slipper back on, and stood up, saying:
“I’m full!”
Then he poured himself a bowl of soup, sat on the sofa, and drank it while watching TV.
This casual attitude made the girl believe that nothing had happened just now, but seeing him glance at her from the corner of his eye, she knew he was fully aware!

After dinner, the two families gathered together to rest.
The two fathers resumed their game of chess, while the two mothers went to the bedroom to discuss knitting woolen shoes. In the living room, only Wen Yu and Fu Chengque, two young people, were left watching TV.
The TV news was broadcasting various fresh events for the Spring Festival, but neither of them had their minds on it.
Fu Chengque wrapped herself in a blanket and asked, “When does school start?”
“On the fourth day of the new year,” Wen Yu said, rubbing his hands.
“Oh my goodness! Isn’t that… the day after tomorrow?”
“It’s already quite a long time for senior three.”
“I can’t wait to graduate. I want to go to university!!”
The girl exclaimed to the sky.
Wen Yu glanced over and chuckled twice, “You won’t think like this in the next semester.”
“Doesn’t university have a two-month summer vacation?”
“Probably more than that!”
“Wow! That’s amazing! I can sleep in for two whole months…”
As Fu Chengque spoke, her body began to slump down, as if she was about to fall asleep.
But the next question directly awakened her soul:
“Have you done your homework?”
“Oh no! I just touched it last time, there’s still a lot left to do!”
“Haha, I’m almost done.”
“?!?”
“Just a little finishing touches left.”
“You… You didn’t wait for me!”
“It’s okay, I’ll do what I can for you.”
Fu Chengque propped herself up, smiling, “What are you going to do, help me write or let me copy yours?”
“I can laugh at you to the best of my ability, haha!”
“…”
After a brief daze, Fu Chengque sprang up from the sofa, grabbed a cushion, and angrily waved it at Wen Yu’s back.
She pretended to be angry, “You have no conscience, I’m going to beat you!”
Wen Yu raised his hand to block, shouting, “The wrath of the emperor, something something, but the anger of a commoner, lacks authority? Not at all!”
Then he also grabbed a cushion and “duang” knocked it on Fu Chengque’s head…
A little later, the two families made another round of dumplings together, extending the warmth of the New Year’s celebration to the end.
It was only in laughter that they bid each other good night.
The lights in the opposite bedroom were turned on again, and although they were no different from before, on the first night of the lunar new year, they seemed to be surrounded by a halo of light.
In Wen Yu’s eyes, and in Fu Chengque’s eyes, it was the same.

The next day.
The second day of the lunar new year.
Firecrackers went off first, enhancing the festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival.
Today was the time for visiting relatives and friends in earnest. Wen Yu and Fu Chengque both got up early. They had to accompany their parents around Jiangcheng, visiting relatives’ homes to offer New Year’s greetings.
In the afternoon, neither family went out, welcoming relatives and friends at home.
At Fu Chengque’s home, relatives from her cousin’s family came, and there was someone they were both familiar with — Lou Xuanli.
In Fu Chengque’s eyes, it had only been a few months since she last saw Lou Xuanli, but her cousin seemed to change her appearance every day. After several months, she had shed her youthful campus style and now exuded the air of a career elite.
In her gestures and expressions, maturity was evident.
This made Fu Chengque extremely envious.
In Fu Chengque’s bedroom.
The girl circled around her cousin several times, marveling, “Cousin, you look so different now, it’s like…”
Lou Xuanli had a bit of makeup on today, especially bright lipstick. Upon hearing Fu Chengque’s comment, she responded, “Like?”
“Like… mature!”
“Haha, of course, now that I manage over a dozen people, how could I not have the presence to impress?”
“Cousin, you’re amazing!”
“Oh, it’s nothing. My boss is the impressive one.”
“Oh?! How impressive is your boss?”
“Very impressive. I need to learn from him. Truly capable people don’t need a presence. They can stand there in slippers and be just as imposing.”
As they spoke, someone arrived at the door, although it was open, he still politely knocked.
It was Wen Yu.
Fu Chengque called out, “Manager Wen, my cousin’s here! Come get your New Year’s money from her!”
Lou Xuanli glanced over and chuckled, saying, “Manager Wen, you’re wearing slippers in the dead of winter without socks. Aren’t your feet cold?”
Wen Yu glanced down and replied, “I was washing things in the bathroom just now, not very convenient.”
With a hint of annoyance, he said to Fu Chengque, “You made such a big deal out of it, and it’s just her coming? I rushed over here in slippers because of her.”
“New Year’s money is a big deal!” Fu Chengque said gleefully, turning to offer New Year’s greetings, “Cousin Li, happy Spring Festival, you’re getting more beautiful every year. May your work go smoothly next year, congratulations on getting rich, here’s your red envelope…”
“Haha, you’re so sweet, here’s yours first!”
Lou Xuanli reached out, and a thick red envelope landed in Fu Chengque’s hand.
The girl exclaimed, “So big, so thick, this is a lot! Cousin, you’re really getting rich this year.”
“What am I? It’s my boss who’s really getting rich. He…”
Wen Yu frowned and began to offer New Year’s greetings, “Cousin Li, happy New Year, congratulations on getting rich, give me the red envelope.”
“Hahaha!” Lou Xuanli laughed heartily and trembled for a moment, “There might not be any more next time. Here, Manager Wen, take the red envelope. It’s just a small one, please accept it.”
“No need to be polite.”
“Oh, come on, I’m grateful for your care…”
“Let’s work hard together.”
Fu Chengque watched on, feeling a bit confused, but then decided to stop thinking about it.
Well, whatever!
It wasn’t a big deal anyway.
It’s New Year’s, as long as everyone’s happy!
