Chapter 4: No one will come here, right?
The situation was much as Emelite had guessed.
The gang thugs who had ambushed Emelite halfway were all from the Black Sand Gang.
The Black Sand Gang was the largest underground gang in Locke City, and even the Police Chief was one of their people, allowing them to act unscrupulously within the city for many years.
However, Emelite knew even more clearly that the Black Sand Gang’s public boss and the Locke City Police Chief were not the true masters of the Black Sand Gang; the president of Velen Copper was.
After all, this was the Allen Federation, and no matter which state or city, it was all controlled by capital, and the government and gangs were merely tools in the hands of capital.
These thugs who ambushed Emelite also completely did not know Emelite’s true identity, and the orders they had received were to scare Emelite a little before kidnapping her back to the gang, but they were not allowed to cause any real harm to Emelite.
The corpses controlled by necromancy would not lie, and the thugs indeed did not recognize Emelite, otherwise they absolutely would not dare to do such a stupid thing as to kidnap Young Mistress Melson.
Behind a clump of vegetation by the roadside, Emelite found another iron lump that required three people to lift, based on the testimony of the thugs’ corpses.
“Riot Control Type-III… Tsk tsk, the police and gangs of Locke City are indeed close partners, to be able to get their hands on even this.”
As the Young Mistress of the Federation’s largest magic tool manufacturing family, Emelite recognized the true form of that iron lump in just a few seconds.
The military-grade magic tool Riot Control Type-III had an effect similar to the EMP weapons of a technological civilization, capable of interfering with the operation of all other magic tools within its range that were lower in strength than itself. The reason Emelite’s mana-powered vehicle had suddenly stopped earlier was obviously because of this.
And although the Riot Control Type-III had been phased out of the Federation Army after the Riot Control Type-V began mass production, it was currently only equipped by the Federation Police. It was absolutely impossible for an ordinary gang to get their hands on it… So the Black Sand Gang and the Locke City Police Department had long since been colluding and rotting together.
After turning off the Riot Control Type-III and allowing the mana-powered vehicle to restart, Emelite found a rope again and controlled the thugs’ corpses to tie themselves up. Afterward, she had the thugs’ corpses escort the mana-powered vehicle and continue heading toward Locke City.
The Black Sand Gang’s boss had already arranged the place to imprison Emelite, which was a logistics warehouse located in the southern suburbs of Locke City.
This gang boss, who looked more like a white-collar elite than a gang leader, obviously knew Emelite’s true identity. Unwilling to let his impulsive and crude subordinates be alone with a Young Mistress for a long time, he brought a squad of gang elites to guard the warehouse, intending to personally keep watch over Emelite.
When he first saw the thugs escorting the mana-powered vehicle back, the Black Sand Gang’s boss’s heart still skipped a beat, very afraid that his men would act impulsively and mess things up.
Only after seeing that Emelite showed no signs of being harmed or violated other than being tied up with rope did the Black Sand Gang’s boss breathe a sigh of relief.
Although he found Emelite’s overly calm demeanor a bit strange, what threat could a delicate Young Mistress who was tied up pose? The Black Sand Gang’s boss didn’t think much more of it.
“Forgive my offense, Young Mistress Melson.”
After letting all the subordinates around him leave, the Black Sand Gang’s boss bowed slightly to Emelite with great poise, just like a gentleman at a social event.
“…You know I’m the Young Mistress of the Melson Family, and you still dare to treat me like this?”
Emelite continued to feign the persona of an arrogant Young Mistress, glaring at the Black Sand Gang boss with an exasperated look as if she were looking at trash:
“Believe it or not, the elite mercenaries from Melson Security Company will immediately come and crush you guys like small fry.”
“I’m not afraid.”
The Black Sand Gang boss shrugged, appearing extremely confident:
“After all, Young Mistress, you are currently in a rather special Entrepreneurial Trial period, right? As long as we don’t actually harm you, the Melson Family won’t easily intervene. And we have no intention of harming you either; we just want to invite you to stay here as a guest for a few days, face reality, and stop acting recklessly.”
“You… you even know about the Entrepreneurial Trial?”
Emelite first feigned the panic of a mesugaki whose protective layer had been pierced, then immediately bluffed and yelled:
“Even… even if the family won’t easily take action, your kidnapping of me is still a provocation against the Melson Family! Aren’t you afraid of being settled with after the fact?”
“The Melson Family won’t find out.”
The Black Sand Gang boss remained brimming with confidence:
“After you sent that letter, Young Mistress, the boss had us get this place all ready. There are no outsiders around here, and no one will be coming this way anytime soon. No one will ever know that you’ve been invited here as our guest.”
“As for you, Young Mistress… are you really not afraid of losing face, and you’re going to tell your family that you were bullied by a third-rate gang in a small city?”
“…”
Emelite stopped acting. The corners of her mouth curved up slightly as she asked with a smile:
“Are you sure there are no outsiders around here, and no one will be coming anytime soon?”
“?”
The Black Sand Gang boss finally sensed something was wrong, but he had ruled the nights of Locke City so securely for too long, even transforming from a street thug into a white-collar elite, that he had lost his instinctive sensitivity to danger.
“That’s right, after all, we spent two whole days preparing in advance…”
Before his brain’s intuition could sound the alarm, the Black Sand Gang boss had already answered Emelite’s question.
“Then I’m relieved.”
Emelite’s smile grew even more brilliant.
She was still bound tightly with ropes, seemingly unable to move, yet the Black Sand Gang boss, just like the thugs before him, had his heart directly pierced by an invisible and unseen blade, dying on the spot.
At the same time, the corpses of the thugs outside the room, still controlled by necromancy, suddenly rose up in surprise attacks against the living gang members around them, every strike lethal, quickly forming a one-sided slaughter.
But this was only the beginning. As the largest gang in Locke City, the Black Sand Gang’s fighters were naturally not just ordinary people.
Among the elites by the Black Sand Gang boss’s side, there were two Mages of the Awakening Stage, each holding a combat-type magic tool in their hand. Their combat strength was on a completely different level from ordinary thugs, and they knocked down more than 10 thug corpses with just a few moves.
However, that was all.
Corpses revived by the necromancy spell [ Resurrection of the Dead ], no matter how strong they were in life, could only exert the strength of ordinary people; their advantage was that these corpses could be controlled by the caster with extreme precision, moving just like real living people.
This spell itself was not considered a combat-type necromancy spell. Emelite had only recorded it into her magic tool for the purpose of interrogating for information and feigning acting.
Now that she had encountered enemies at the level of formal Mages, Emelite had no choice but to take action personally.
