Chapter 45

Lin Shuwei had been busy with preparations for the premiere all day, but she still found an hour to go to a bakery and make a cake!

It was truly something Lin Shuwei might do.

When Huo Yu ate the dessert, she felt that it tasted different from the usual ones from the same bakery, but she didn’t pay much attention to it at the time. Now, seeing the “hidden sweetness” unearthed by the ever-resourceful netizens, Huo Yu realized that it was indeed made by Lin Shuwei.

This woman!

Huo Yu rubbed her face, trying to calm herself down.

“Ding, Lin Shuwei sees the rise in OhMyWeiHuo CP ranking, happiness points +200.”

Huo Yu washed her face and heard the announcement from 006.

“Lin Shuwei is checking her phone and looking at the CP ranking?!” Huo Yu was speechless.

The ranking can also increase Lin Shuwei’s happiness points. She used to be in second place, but Huo Yu never saw her so excited!

Huo Yu took a look and saw that due to their interactions, the CP hashtag had more discussions today, and the ranking had also risen.

Huo Yu nodded at her phone, thought for a moment, and decided to follow OhMyWeiHuo with her secondary account, retweeting and liking the highly praised and commented Weibo post from the other day.

After the incident with the wealthy person, Huo Yu was now considered one of Lin Shuwei’s iron fans, with over a hundred thousand followers. Whenever Lin Shuwei posted something, many people would join in.

Lin Shuwei’s fans should be more accepting of OhMyWeiHuo, right?

By the time it was past eleven, Huo Yu couldn’t hold on any longer. She took a shower and lay down to sleep.

At midnight, Lin Shuwei, who had returned to her residence, brushed her teeth and looked at her phone. She saw that “Lin Shuwei’s Exclusive Little Darling” had retweeted and liked that Weibo post.

She also posted a Weibo message saying, “You have such a good relationship. Cheers to your friendship! Hey, good luck with your new movie! #MeAndMyWar#”

“Xiao Yu, have you eaten? Are you happy?” Lin Shuwei murmured as she closed her eyes, her mind filled with images of Huo Yu during the day.

Huo Yu felt that Lin Shuwei had changed a lot. She didn’t know how much longing and affection Lin Shuwei had accumulated over these days.

Almost every day, Lin Shuwei posted cheesy comments that seemed empty and copied from the internet. Others might find them vulgar and dull, but when Huo Yu said those words with her awkwardness, they felt extremely adorable.

Lin Shuwei wanted to hug Huo Yu, to kiss her. That was her true desire.

But everything had to be restrained.

After a busy day, Lin Shuwei washed up and went to sleep.

Huo Yu’s presence remained in her mind, accompanying her in her dreams.

In the dream, daringly embracing her, kissing her…

After the premiere, 《Me and My War》 was released, starting with a midnight screening. With Lan Xin’s push, the initial allocation for this film was 21%.

《Legend of the Primordial Era》 is a big-budget film with strong backing. Although there were some issues, money could easily resolve them.

This film and 《Me and My War》 were released on the same day, with an allocation of 39%.

There were three films released on the same day, and another one called 《Book of Wishes》 with little fame, barely occupying 3% of the allocation.

Several new films, along with a few previously released ones, began a box office battle.

《Legend of the Primordial Era》 relied heavily on special effects, lacking slightly in storytelling. However, with many big names involved, that was its advantage.

Apart from Lin Shuwei, who had gained some fame, the rest of the cast in 《Me and My War》 were newcomers, falling behind in popularity. However, the advantage lay in its humorous and relatable storyline. The film had almost no weak points, and as long as one didn’t purposely find fault, it was enjoyable and light-hearted throughout.

Because of this, 《Me and My War》 had gained some popularity. Combined with its promotional efforts, which were not much worse than 《Legend of the Primordial Era》. Its box office performance on the first day turned out unexpectedly strong.

The first thing Huo Yu did in the morning was to check Lin Shuwei’s happiness points.

To her surprise, it had increased by 2,000 compared to the previous night.

Huo Yu had been in a deep sleep and didn’t hear the announcement from 006. She remembered that it was the day when Lin Shuwei’s movie was released, so she opened her phone to check its box office performance.

Huo Yu woke up a bit late; it was already past nine in the morning. 《Me and My War》 reached 50 million at the box office, while 《Legend of the Primordial Era》 was at 80 million.

The results seemed promising.

Huo Yu kept refreshing the real-time box office on her phone, feeling more nervous than when dealing with her films.

For every increase in Lin Shuwei’s film’s box office, Huo Yu became one point happier.

The results were beyond everyone’s expectations.

In this era, everyone was accustomed to blockbuster films, and their expectations for special effects had increased. If the visual effects weren’t stunning enough and the plot was lacking, the audience wouldn’t buy it.

Instead, happiness became something rare.

Paying money to buy happiness and enjoying movies together in the cinema with everyone became a great way to spend time.

At the end of the first day, 《Me and My War》 reached 160 million at the box office, while 《Legend of the Primordial Era》 reached 220 million.

Even Lin Shuwei herself found it hard to believe.

She had been quite optimistic about this film from the beginning, but the result turned out better than expected.

On the first day, the box office reached the condition for the wager!

Lin Shuwei’s anxious heart finally relaxed.

Jiang Xinran called Lin Shuwei and ended up crying while talking.

After working so hard for a long time, they finally achieved results. Only those who were involved knew the feeling.

Huo Yu kept receiving messages about Lin Shuwei’s increasing happiness points, and she also felt excited when she looked at the box office numbers.

“Ding, Lin Shuwei misses the host, happiness points -500.”

With a ding sound, Huo Yu’s excitement waned.

The increase wasn’t enough, but there was a decline!

When Lin Shuwei saw this result, she wanted to share it with Huo Yu, to talk about it together, and especially to see Huo Yu.

Lin Shuwei knew about all the support Huo Yu had provided for this film, even the things she did openly with her alternate account. But now that they had already met once, there was no reason to meet again, especially considering Lin Shuwei’s packed schedule filled with interviews, business activities, and promotional tours.

Lin Shuwei traveled to more than ten cities in a row. Fifteen days later, 《Me and My War》 reached 1.5 billion at the box office. Despite the constant adjustments in screen time allocation each day and the pressure from new releases, its screen time percentage still rose to thirty percent. On the other hand, 《Legend of the Primordial Era》 fell to ten percent, with a total box office of just over 600 million. For this highly expensive film, it could be considered a box office failure as the expenses incurred were not covered.

However, when excluding the marketing costs for 《Me and My War》 and the fees for Lin Shuwei and Jiang Xinran, the production cost was only a little over one million. It became one of the most profitable films in cinematic history.

Naturally, there were many people online criticizing the film, saying it lacked depth, substance, and was merely a popcorn flick. Some even criticized the actors for their intense performances.

But these negative comments couldn’t stop the continuous rise of the film.

《Book of Wishes》 only achieved a box office of less than one million. Pei Jingfei didn’t have high hopes for its box office performance. She was only waiting to take the work to film festivals and win awards to gain popularity again.

However, she didn’t expect that after giving up 《Book of Wishes》, Lin Shuwei would take on a drama film that became a huge success.

Seeing the daily increase in the film’s box office, frustrated Pei Jingfei.

She could only console herself, thinking that after participating in the Golden Orange Film Festival in the second half of the year and re-releasing the film, she would gain both fame and fortune. In the future, she would receive better resources based on this award and follow the path Lin Shuwei had paved in the original plot.

The box office continued to soar, far exceeding Lin Shuwei’s expectations, finally allowing her to breathe a sigh of relief.

She had no time to rest. After finishing the promotional tour, she had to start filming a new movie. Lin Shuwei had to rush to the Tibetan region to shoot 《Overgrown Grass and Fragrant Orchid》, which aimed to compete in the upcoming Golden Orange Film Festival. To maintain freshness and mystery, there was no official announcement or promotion before or during the shooting.

All the actors involved had signed confidentiality agreements.

Once filming began, they had to minimize contact with the outside world. Several scenes were shot in a closed set.

Before leaving, Lin Shuwei made a trip to the Cat Apartment to see the kittens and also made arrangements for Lin Shuxiao.

Huo Yu was originally at Tianyu Entertainment when she received a message from Lin Shuwei asking to meet her. She also received a report from 006.

“President Huo, I’m going to film a movie. I might not be able to see you for a few months. Can we meet? At the Cat Apartment.”

Huo Yu saw the message and rushed from the company to the Cat Apartment.

On the way, Huo Yu saw a familiar cat, the tabby cat.

It seemed to have gained some weight and walked a bit slower, but it looked more elegant than before.

The tabby cat didn’t live in the Cat Apartment permanently. It wandered around after spending the winter and only came to the Cat Apartment when Elizabeth from Gu Nanzhen’s family was there.

Huo Yu saw the tabby cat but couldn’t greet it. She just took a glance and continued driving. After a while, she saw through the rearview mirror that a man was chasing after the tabby cat and grabbed its nape.

Huo Yu frowned. She recognized that man; it was Wang Renkai.

Back then, the tabby cat scratched Wang Renkai while protecting Lin Shuwei.

Could this guy still hold a grudge and seek revenge?

The tabby cat used to be fierce, so how could it be caught so easily now?!

Huo Yu didn’t have time to think and quickly reversed the car, then parked and got out.

“You damn cat, I finally caught you!! Watch me beat you to death!!” Wang Renkai cursed as he found a stick from the side garden, ready to hit the tabby cat.

The tabby cat meowed and tried to scratch him with its claws, but it couldn’t reach him.

“What are you doing? Cruelty to animals in broad daylight? Put it down!” Huo Yu angrily approached him.

“President Huo?!” Wang Renkai immediately backed off when he saw Huo Yu.

“Put it down quickly!” Huo Yu demanded.

“President Huo, this cat scratched people. It scratched me last time, and I had to get a shot.” Wang Renkai said. He felt unlucky. Even teaching a cat a lesson was being meddled with by Huo Yu.

“If I tell you to put it down, you put it down. Why waste words?!” Huo Yu frowned. She felt that the tabby cat was weak and its meowing sounded strange.

Reluctantly, Wang Renkai threw the tabby cat onto the ground.

“Brother Cat, what happened to you?!” Huo Yu didn’t care about Wang Renkai anymore. She squatted down to look at the tabby cat.

The tabby cat meowed a few times toward Huo Yu, then lay down on the ground without moving. Its meows sounded somewhat pitiful to Huo Yu.

Huo Yu was worried about the tabby cat. She wanted to pick it up and take it back to the Cat Apartment. However, her aversion to furry animals made her hesitate to reach out and touch them.

Thinking that the tabby cat might be sick and needed medical attention soon to avoid worsening its condition, Huo Yu took a deep breath, controlled her emotions, and when she was about to pick up the tabby cat, a slender hand reached out and touched its belly.

“It’s going to give birth to kittens.” A pleasant voice sounded.

It was Lin Shuwei.

“Giving birth to kittens?!” Huo Yu was surprised to see Lin Shuwei and had no idea that the tabby cat was pregnant and about to give birth.

She had always thought that the mighty and domineering tabby cat was male!

Never expected it was female.
