Chapter 34: Side by Side, Eating Melons, Watching the Show
“!”
When Big Pear revealed his identity, everyone was shocked. They never imagined the Wilson Grand Hotel belonged to his family. No wonder he called himself the manager—he was the true owner, a man whose word was law.
“Ladies and gentlemen, do you have any further questions? If not, please leave this area and refrain from disturbing Suisui’s meal. Thank you for your cooperation.”
“Of course, if anyone wishes to continue making trouble, I will be happy to accommodate you!”
With these words, Big Pear turned to Pan Huihui, his eyes filled with warning. The message was clear: if she wanted to escalate, he was more than ready to oblige. Let her so-called “successful” husband try to challenge him directly, and they’d see who backed down first.
Big Pear had earned his father’s trust to take over the Wilson Grand Hotel, proving he possessed formidable capabilities.
In the hospitality industry, any manager worth their salt must be adept at reading faces and discerning unspoken intentions.
Big Pear was naturally among them. Through the earlier conversation and narrative, he immediately realized that Chen Hao and his daughter were at odds with Pan Huihui, who exuded an inexplicable sense of superiority. This arrogance likely stemmed from Sun Yeyou, who outwardly appeared to be a successful businessman.
As a member of Suisui-Ice—and even one of the support group’s administrators—how could Big Pear dare call himself a member if Suisui encountered trouble outside?
This must be arranged!
Sometimes, all you needed was a strong fanbase with powerful backing. Then, you didn’t even have to strike the blow yourself—others would do it for you!
Rustle, rustle!
Sensing the deteriorating situation, the so-called high school classmates swiftly retreated from the danger zone. They had only come for a meal and a chat; there was no need to get entangled in this “battle of gods.” It wasn’t worth it.
This included Ma Ru and Pan Li.
Ma Ru resigned herself to bad luck. She lacked the courage to argue with Big Pear, so the slap went unavenged.
As for Pan Li…
“Um, you guys carry on. I have some urgent business. Wouldn’t you know it, just as I was about to relax, my boss called—some minor production oversight that only I, the department supervisor, can handle.”
“I’m terribly sorry, I should get going now. Enjoy your meal and drinks!”
With a whoosh, Pan Li concocted a bizarre excuse and left, playing the part to the hilt. He even pulled out his phone and pretended to take a call just now.
“You… you!”
Seeing everyone who had initially sided with her leave, Pan Huihui was devastated, feeling utterly abandoned.
“What? You’re still planning to stay? I wouldn’t mind calling security to escort you out.”
“Security! Where’s security? What kind of couple are you? How utterly shameless! You’re dragging down the average for married couples everywhere!”
Big Pear issued a final warning to Pan Huihui and Sun Yeyou, who remained rooted to the spot, while Le Ziyan cheered him on. He was thoroughly enjoying this dramatic turn of events—the sound of the metaphorical slaps landing was positively resounding.
“Let’s go, let’s go!”
Sun Yeyou’s lips curled into a wry smile. He wanted to say something, but catching Big Pear’s sharp glare, he swallowed his words, grabbed Pan Huihui’s arm, and tried to pull her away.
After tugging a few times, he realized Pan Huihui was pouting stubbornly, refusing to budge.
“What are you standing around for? Let’s go!”
“I’m not leaving! Why should I? You’re usually so tough—why don’t you ask your friends for help? How can you just stand there while your wife is being humiliated?”
“Nonsense! It depends on who we’re dealing with, doesn’t it? Fine, fine, let’s go home first, okay? I’ll buy you the latest handbag tomorrow, okay?”
“No, no, why should I? Why should I! You need to show some real backbone today!”
Pan Huihui threw a tantrum, leaving Sun Yeyou utterly exasperated. He knew he couldn’t possibly stand up to Big Pear.
Chen Hao and the others chuckled softly, enjoying the spectacle from the sidelines.
“You!”
Sun Yeyou was so furious he wanted to slap Pan Huihui. If she kept this up, he’d be the one humiliated. Why couldn’t she read the room?
“I don’t care! You need to do something today, or else—or else we’re getting a divorce!”
Just like the saying goes: first tears, then tantrums, then threats of suicide. Pan Huihui went straight to threatening divorce.
Men despise being threatened with divorce, and Sun Yeyou was no exception. Instantly enraged, he roared, “You want a divorce? I’ll give you one! Either you come home with me right now, or we’re signing the papers tomorrow!”
“You think I’m some young hotshot? He’s the real rising tide!” he snapped, gesturing at Big Pear beside him.
“I’m unworthy of such praise,” Big Pear said modestly, waving his hand. “Just empty accolades.”
“You, you! You said it! Divorce it is! I only married you because I thought you had some skill, but you’re utterly useless when it matters!”
“If we’re divorcing, I want 3 million!”
“What? 3 million? Are you out of your mind?! Look at yourself! You only look decent with makeup; without it, you’re practically a monster!”
“Spare me the nonsense! I’ve turned a blind eye to your affairs all this time. 3 million is a bargain! Refuse, and I’ll expose every woman you’ve been with!”
“You! You’re ruthless!”
“Not as ruthless as you!”
What started as a petty marital spat had unexpectedly escalated into a messy divorce drama, complete with scandalous secrets being dragged into the open.
Chen Hao and the others devoured the spectacle with relish, pulling up chairs, cracking melon seeds, and reveling in the couple’s fiery clash.
“Divorce!” x2
In the end, the argument between Pan Huihui and Sun Yeyou naturally concluded in a lose-lose situation, with both agreeing that divorce was the best option.
As for the specifics of the divorce settlement, that remained to be seen.
Watching the couple slink away from Massena Hall, Chen Hao shook his head with a smile. He hadn’t anticipated the plot would unfold this way, completely exceeding his expectations.
Of course, all credit belonged to Suisui. If Big Pear hadn’t been “Suisui-Ice,” it might have been him and his daughter leaving just now. As they say, with a daughter blessed by the protagonist’s halo, her father inevitably basks in some of that reflected glory. He couldn’t help but feel secretly delighted.
“Let’s reintroduce ourselves properly. I’m Li Yanbing, fourth on the live stream’s overall leaderboard. Suisui, you can call me Big Pear!”
Big Pear re-introduced himself, still visibly excited to be in Suisui’s presence. Seeing her in person only reinforced his impression of her as utterly adorable, a strange magnetism drawing his gaze.
The encounter soon transformed into a personal fan meet-and-greet, with Big Pear relentlessly engaging Suisui in conversation.
Left ignored, Chen Hao and Le Ziyan retreated to a corner to clink glasses and resume their philosophical musings on life.
“It’s getting late. We should head out now. Thank you so much for today!”
“You’re welcome! As ‘Suisui-Ice,’ it’s my duty. By the way…”
“May I… shake Suisui’s hand?”
“Absolutely not! No physical contact whatsoever!”
Chen Hao instantly transformed into a fiercely protective father, vehemently rejecting Big Pear’s “impertinent” request.
