Chapter 1: Miss Dark Valkyrie, You Wouldn’t Want...
The high-rise glass panes refract faint light.
The lamp beside the projection casts a warm yellow glow, one of the few warm tones in this cold-toned room.
The spider plant on the windowsill adds a touch of life to the otherwise sterile decor.
The black-haired young man ties his hair back.
Despite the simple white shirt, he exudes an undeniable air of authority.
—Jonas Vetting.
As the heir to the Vetting Conglomerate, with no one else left to take the reins, this infamous Young Master Jonas is about to enter the most glorious moment of his life.
—He will join the Vetting Conglomerate’s board of directors, becoming one of its youngest members.
But right now, Jonas isn’t happy about it.
Because long before this, he had already foreseen his own fate.
Ahem, let’s reintroduce him.
Jonas Vetting, twenty-three years old, an utterly ordinary transmigrator who woke up one day to find himself in this world.
This is the world of a cyberpunk-style romantic war SLG stitched-together game.
Players take on the role of the Resistance Army’s leader, wooing characters while leading the rebellion to overthrow the conglomerate’s rule.
A happy ending… unless you’re the game’s villain. Then it’s not so great.
As the conglomerate’s heir, your subordinates are either traitors who’ll be seduced by the protagonist or brainless deadweights.
Despite wielding the world’s most cutting-edge technology and the strongest military, painstakingly swallowing up every other conglomerate… in the end, you’re crushed by some no-name protagonist and his ragtag team.
Alloy swords clashing against thermal blades, a single rifle against a mechanical army, three soldiers blowing up a fortress meant for a thousand.
Not only is the protagonist practically cheating, but your incompetent subordinates also insist on feeding him resources like the Calabash Brothers rescuing their grandpa.
As the villain, you can only watch helplessly as the protagonist grows stronger step by step, toppling the conglomerate’s rule while casually romancing girls…
So the question arises—is there truly no one capable left in the vast Vetting Conglomerate?
Actually, there are quite a few.
【Dark Valkyrie】 Esney Celine, possessing an exaggerated level of individual combat prowess, boasts the glorious achievement of single-handedly taking on an entire mechanized army. With countless merits to her name, she is one of the fastest-rising contracted employees within the conglomerate.
However, in the original storyline, during a direct confrontation with the game’s protagonist, the two developed mutual respect due to their strength. Later, trapped by an out-of-control mechanized army and surviving life-and-death together, they grew feelings for each other.
In the end, she resolutely joined the Resistance Army. In one of the endings, she charged alone into the conglomerate’s headquarters and decapitated the villain with her thermal blade.
【Brain Melting Hacker】 Elise, a talent originally scouted by the villain from the slums, is plagued by extreme inferiority and craves validation. Yet after being recruited, she was merely used as a tool.
In one ending, she was won over by the protagonist and hacked into the conglomerate, inflicting massive losses.
【War Goddess】 Noelle, a genius strategic commander with disabled legs, endured long-term abuse. Even after being hired by the conglomerate, she often suffered inhumane treatment.
After being swayed by the protagonist, she became the Resistance Army’s tactician, dealing the conglomerate a fatal blow with minimal losses—a resoundingly successful decapitation strike.
There are many similar examples… Though it all sounds like the villain’s own doing, who could tolerate having nothing but traitors under their command?
Taking a deep breath, Jonas drummed his fingers incessantly on the armrest of his chair.
The board meeting was imminent… and for Jonas, this was hardly good news.
After all, it meant the plot had progressed considerably, with the protagonist having secretly amassed significant forces.
If nothing went awry, he would soon dispatch 【Dark Valkyrie】 Esney Celine to quell a gang uprising in Sete District.
And that would also mark the first encounter between the 【Dark Valkyrie】 and the protagonist.
He stood up and paced before the floor-to-ceiling smart glass window.
What he needed to consider now wasn’t how to smoothly enter the board meeting, but how to utterly extinguish any possibility of this 【Dark Valkyrie】 turning traitor…
Taking another deep breath, he pressed a hand to his temple, summoning a virtual AR interface for communication.
The call connected almost immediately.
He spoke:
“Send Esney Celine to my office.”
……………………………
As the elevator ascended steadily, the girl named Esney Celine’s gaze flickered restlessly.
Since being contracted by the Vetting Conglomerate, she had rarely seen her employer.
Truth be told, she held little fondness for him.
After all, Young Master Jonas’ notorious disregard for commoners as human beings was well-known throughout the lower districts.
As a former resident of those slums, she found his behavior utterly repulsive.
But money talks—she couldn’t complain too much. The young master paid handsomely, and Esney desperately needed those funds to keep her sister alive.
Uncertain why Young Master Jonas had summoned her, a faint unease lingered in her heart.
—Ding
Just as the young woman’s emotions were in turmoil, the elevator doors slowly opened.
And there she saw the notorious Jonas Vetting.
He stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, sunlight cascading over him. His ink-black hair was tied back, and the thin white shirt couldn’t conceal the innate authority he exuded.
Though he appeared quite young, he gave Esney an indescribable sense of oppression.
“You’re here,” he said softly.
“What business do you have with me, Mr. Jonas?”
Esney took a deep breath and met the young man’s gaze despite the overwhelming pressure.
“Esney Celine, twenty-one years old, from the lower districts…”
The man didn’t answer her question but instead continued narrating to himself:
“Killed sixteen fully armed gang members with an alloy sword during a conflict, earning the moniker 【Dark Valkyrie】.”
His voice wasn’t loud, yet his calm, measured tone imposed immense psychological pressure on Esney.
She could no longer contain herself and spoke in a suppressed voice:
“Mr. Jonas… what are you trying to say?”
Hearing this, the man by the window slowly turned around, and Esney finally saw the object in his hand.
It was a collar.
“Ms. Esney, I know what you want…”
He spoke slowly, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes.
“You wouldn’t want your little sister to continue suffering, would you?”
