Chapter 15: As Expected of You, Mr. Jonas
The sudden disruption left everyone present momentarily stunned. The gang leader gaped blankly at the young man who’d barged in through the door, his mind blank.
After a pause, he seemed to snap back to reality and snarled:
“Who the hell are you? Who let you in here? Do you even know where—!”
Before he could finish, the youth addressed as Young Master Serca cut him off with a dark expression. Under the gang leader’s bewildered stare, he spoke:
“Jonas Vetting… Why are you here?”
He knew that face all too well. In fact, the name “Vetting” was one that resonated thunderously across District 26.
The Vetting Conglomerate—a behemoth even larger than the Bond Group backing him. Though unclear why the other party had appeared here, he dared not provoke this young man lightly.
“Just out for a stroll. Didn’t expect to overhear something… interesting.”
Jonas smiled, his eyes shifting to the purple-haired girl curled up on the floor. The moment their gazes met, she recoiled like a startled rabbit, lowering her head to avoid his stare.
“The Bond Conglomerate deals in human trafficking now?”
Upon hearing this, Serca’s expression grew even darker.
Naturally, he didn’t believe the other party’s blatantly obvious lie, especially since Jonas’s latter statement had already revealed his true intentions.
—He had come specifically for him.
Realizing this, Serca no longer bothered with further pretense. Instead, he sneered and said coldly:
“Cut the act, Jonas. What do you really want?”
The gang leader standing nearby, upon hearing Serca address the man before him, immediately recognized his identity and couldn’t help but feel a surge of fear over his earlier impulsive actions.
He knew all too well the weight behind the name Vetting Conglomerate. As a mere small-time gang leader controlling a section of Flower Street, the other party could crush him effortlessly with just a flick of their finger.
Not daring to intervene in their conversation any further, he stood silently to the side, not making a sound, inwardly lamenting his misfortune.
He had only wanted to curry favor with this second young master of the Bond Conglomerate. Who could have guessed he’d get caught up in the conflict between these conglomerate heirs?
Jonas sat down casually on the sofa opposite Serca and spoke unhurriedly:
“It’s not about what I want to do, Mr. Serca. You need to understand what you’re doing.”
As he spoke, he leaned forward, resting his hands on the table, and stared straight into Serca’s eyes, enunciating each word clearly:
“According to Article 321 of the Security Bureau Constitution, unauthorized modification and trafficking of pleasure dolls by individuals is prohibited. Violators may face imprisonment of ten years or more.”
Jonas glanced at the gang leader standing beside Serca, sending a chill down the latter’s spine. His next words plunged the man into utter despair.
Producing a small chip, Jonas continued:
“I’ve recorded all the relevant evidence and transaction details. What do you think the Peacekeeping Force would do if this footage were to fall into their hands?”
Serca’s expression darkened further at these words.
For the Bond Conglomerate, this matter was merely a minor nuisance. Even if the evidence reached the Peacekeeping Force, it wouldn’t cause much of a stir—such things weren’t uncommon, and the Peacekeeping Force had no reason to offend the Bond Conglomerate over them.
But with the Vetting Conglomerate fanning the flames, this would no longer be a trivial matter.
Countless media outlets would swarm to report on the scandal, and the Peacekeeping Force would be pressured into launching an investigation.
The Bond Conglomerate would suffer significant losses as a result, and Serca, as the instigator, might completely lose his standing in the succession race.
This was, unmistakably, a blatant threat.
“I don’t believe your Vetting Conglomerate is so clean either.”
Serca gritted his teeth, speaking with unwilling resentment.
Jonas smiled at this, his expression tinged with mockery.
“I don’t deny that.”
Serca took a deep breath and said:
“What do you want?”
He understood perfectly well—if the other party hadn’t wanted something from him, they wouldn’t have lurked around him for so long.
In other words, the situation wasn’t entirely hopeless yet. At the very least, there was still room for negotiation.
“You’re aware of the situation in Arte District, aren’t you, Mr. Serca?”
Serca frowned. “I am. So what?”
“You’re aware that the Vetting Conglomerate has been quite troubled lately due to matters concerning the Destiny Organization.”
Jonas spoke with a tone of regret:
“And as far as I know, the Bond Conglomerate should have some transactional relationship with the Destiny Organization, correct?”
Upon hearing this, Serca’s pupils constricted sharply. He never expected the other party to know about such matters.
His first instinct was that there must be a mole within the company.
After regaining his composure, he deliberately maintained a calm demeanor and said:
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“There’s no need to rush to deny it, Mr. Serca. You should understand very well that if I dare to say such things, I must already have evidence in hand.”
Jonas spoke unhurriedly, his calm narration putting considerable pressure on Serca.
“I don’t care about the content of your transactions, and I’m willing to believe that the Bond Conglomerate wasn’t involved in the Arte District riot incident.”
He raised his head and looked into Serca’s eyes:
“But the Bond Conglomerate should be well aware that getting entangled in this matter at this time isn’t a good thing.”
Serca’s expression turned unpleasant. After a long pause, he finally spoke as if having made some decision:
“I understand.”
He had completely grasped Jonas’s intentions—the other party wanted the Bond Conglomerate to sever the supply chain of transactions with the Destiny Organization.
“Pleasure doing business.”
Hearing this, Jonas smiled. Then he stood up, glanced at the girl curled up nearby, and said:
“Also, I’ll be taking this girl with me. No problem, right?”
As if hearing Jonas’s words, the purple-haired girl shrank further into herself.
After what had transpired, Serca had lost all interest in continuing and simply waved his hand without stopping the other party.
Eiffel, standing behind Jonas, observed this scene with a strange expression as she looked at Jonas.
She couldn’t help but think to herself:
—This is truly “the drinker’s heart is not in the cup”…
How very like you, Mr. Jonas.
