Chapter 7: You’re Just a Bargaining Chip
Looking at the white-haired girl kneeling on the floor, her expression dazed and clearly still in shock, Jonas couldn’t help but feel a bit frustrated.
He had originally hoped to capture the game’s protagonist directly, but it seemed he’d overestimated his luck.
“Still, catching her is an unexpected boon…”
Jonas muttered to himself, his gaze carrying an unreadable glint as it settled on the white-haired girl.
Amane Moko—one of the core members of the Resistance Army in the original storyline and the protagonist’s initial guide.
Capturing her now was equivalent to cutting off the original protagonist’s right-hand man, significantly reducing the threat he posed to the Vetting Conglomerate in the future.
Though she couldn’t make out Jonas’ words, she sensed his gaze.
Amane Moko tried to lean back, but Jonas stepped on the hem of her clothes, forcing her to stop.
“You…”
The girl’s heart sank completely. She knew she was done for today, but she refused to give up struggling.
The girl raised her head and spoke as if she knew nothing:
“Who are you people? Aren’t you afraid of being wanted by the Peacekeeping Force for breaking into private property?”
Hearing this, Jonas paused momentarily before curling his lips into a smirk:
“Apologies, but the Vetting Conglomerate never needs reasons for its actions.”
Before Amane Moko could react, she felt an intense numbness spread from her waist. Almost instantly, she lost control of her body.
Electric currents coursed through her, and Amane Moko’s consciousness grew hazy.
She had intended to buy time, but the other party gave her no opportunity.
Before complete darkness swallowed her vision, she saw Young Master Jonas remove his other glove and toss it beside her.
“Eiffel, take her back to the Vetting Conglomerate. I’ll interrogate her personally.”
The man’s indifferent voice was the last thing Amane Moko heard before losing consciousness.
…………………………..
Darkness… an abyss of impenetrable blackness.
Faint outlines appeared before her eyes, with occasional flickers of light in the darkness.
Amane Moko’s consciousness gradually awakened, followed by the slow return of her senses.
—So thirsty…
This was Miss Amane Moko’s first thought upon waking.
Then, intense white light made her squint instinctively. When she tried to shield her eyes, she found her hands bound by chains.
“Miss Amane Moko, we meet again.”
The calm voice made Amane shiver, as if it had dredged up deep memories, her eyes revealing traces of fear.
Then she saw the black-haired youth, his figure merging with the suffocating presence she remembered before losing consciousness.
Instinctively, she retreated two steps, making the chains clatter loudly.
“Jonas Vetting…”
Amane Moko’s voice trembled slightly.
Memories before losing consciousness grew clearer, deepening her fear of Jonas.
“It seems Miss Amane knows my identity… then I needn’t introduce myself.”
Jonas looked into the white-haired girl’s eyes, finding them filled with fear as he’d expected.
“I wonder if my gift was to your satisfaction?”
Hearing this, feelings of humiliation rose in the girl’s heart, though she showed none of it. She merely bit her lower lip, glaring resentfully at the black-haired youth before her.
The unrest in Arte District had indeed been her doing, and her initial target had been this very Young Master Jonas.
From external rumors, this Young Master Jonas was quite mediocre in ability, not yet on the board of directors, so his mobilizable resources were limited.
This was precisely why Amane Moko had chosen him as her first target, planning to extort a hefty sum.
The early stages of the plan succeeded, everything progressing as she’d envisioned.
Just when she thought victory was assured, this seemingly passive Young Master Jonas had reversed the situation with lightning speed, displaying foresight and strategic control beyond anything Amane Moko had ever witnessed.
Amane Moko knew she had encountered the most troublesome type of person—one she least wanted to face.
—A psychopath who played the pig to eat the tiger.
Realizing her current predicament, the girl felt like crying but had no tears left to shed.
All her plans had been built on the premise that “Jonas wouldn’t be able to respond in a short time.” Who would have thought that this Young Master Jonas was nothing like the rumors suggested? In fact, he was even more capable than most corporate leaders she had met.
Clearly, she had become the first “fish” caught by Young Master Jonas.
At this thought, Amane Moko gritted her teeth and forced out a few words through clenched teeth:
“Thank you for your… gift.”
She knew she had no choice but to admit defeat in this situation.
The fact that he hadn’t killed her meant there was still room for negotiation between them.
Things hadn’t reached the worst possible outcome yet—she still held the “bargaining chips” he needed.
As if confirming her suspicions, Jonas clapped his hands, stood up, and spoke:
“Since Miss Amane knows me, you must also understand what I need.”
The light in his eyes flickered unpredictably:
“How did you obtain the detailed data from the Arte District branch building?”
Amane Moko froze for a moment upon hearing this, then felt a jolt of panic. Struggling to maintain her composure, she replied:
“I obtained it through my own surveying and mapping.”
—Crash
The chair toppled over, sending the girl tumbling to the ground.
Looming over her, Jonas leaned in close, lifting her chin with his hand as he spoke with unmistakable malice:
“Miss Amane seems to have misunderstood something.”
The girl struggled, her eyes reflecting Jonas’s figure. The sudden turn of events left her flustered, but she forced an expression of anger onto her face, as if trying to intimidate him from taking further action.
Watching the girl’s bluster with no real strength behind it, Jonas felt a slight surge of sadistic desire.
A wicked smile played on his lips, and in the girl’s eyes, his reflection seemed like a devil who could see right through her.
“You’re not a negotiation partner—just bait…”
And then, the devil voiced her deepest fear:
“Do you think your companions will come to save you?”
