Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Attending Evening Self-Study Isn’t Skipping Class
After confirming the group name and action plan, the members erupted with great enthusiasm.
They provided countless valuable theories in the group chat overnight, looking forward to future practice.
Finally, the leader concluded the first online meeting of the group with an impassioned speech: “All members must firmly remember the organizational guidelines, resolutely implement them, achieve goals quickly and well, not waste a second of study time, seize every opportunity to make money, and not give up on any potential companions.”
Later that night, after 10 o’clock, there was a quarrel from the neighboring Fu family.
Accompanied by an angry shout of “Fu Li, I was blind to elope with you back then,” followed by a slamming door sound, venting frustration, the world returned to peace.
When the noise stopped, Wen Yu got up to use the restroom and happened to see his parents looking around at the door.
“Are Uncle and Aunt Fu arguing again?”
“Yeah, they just love to quarrel. It’s been like this before, and they still haven’t grown up!” Mother Wen looked disdainful.
“Xiao Yu, what are you eavesdropping on? Go to bed!” Father Wen was displeased.
Wen Yu had indeed heard of Uncle and Aunt Fu arguing occasionally, and there had been talk of divorce.
Snuggling back under the thin blanket, Fu Chengque coincidentally messaged Wen Yu:
【Fu Chengque】: Wen Yu, are you free tomorrow?
【Wen Yu】: I spend more time with you than with my mom, and you still don’t know if I’m free?
【Fu Chengque】: Oh… I was just asking casually.
【Wen Yu】: What’s up?
【Fu Chengque】: Skipping class?
【Wen Yu】: The first rule of our action plan is not to waste a second of study time…
【Fu Chengque】: Punishment doesn’t reach the doctor!
【Wen Yu】: Isn’t this already considered a punishment?
【Fu Chengque】: Well… Evening self-study doesn’t count as class. Without teachers teaching knowledge, how can it be considered a class?
【Wen Yu】: Skipping class is fine, but tell me the reason.
Wen Yu had a feeling that Fu Chengque was doing something similar to what she did last time, trying everything to get him to go to the park.
【Fu Chengque】: There’s no specific reason, just feeling a bit down… If you don’t go, I’ll go alone.
A move to advance by retreating.
【Wen Yu】: Since you’re the leader, you should lead by example…
【Fu Chengque】: My parents are arguing, you heard it, right…
【Wen Yu】: Alright, where are we skipping class to?
【Fu Chengque】: Hehe, to the park.
Wen Yu felt like he was falling into a trap.

Following the teaching model of First High School, Second High School had started “evening self-study” for the seniors this week.
But because it had just started, there was still room to escape.
After school, Fu Chengque gave Wen Yu a signal, and the two of them left the school gate one after the other.
It was around 6 o’clock in the evening when they arrived at the nearby People’s Park of Jiangcheng.
Built around Xun Lake, the People’s Park had some of the best scenery in Jiangcheng. Not only could you boat on the lake, but there were also plenty of delicacies to choose from. There was even a new lakeside bike path. If you were interested, you could ride around the lake.
The evening sunset was beautiful, the rays reflecting off the rippling lake surface, like sprinkled gold.
The two strolled along the lake slowly.
“Wen Yu, when did you learn to draw?”
“I’ve always known how.”
“Nonsense, why have I never known about it?”
“There are many things you don’t know about me, like the fact that I used to be an idol trainee.”
“What? You? An idol??”
Fu Chengque stopped in shock, her face full of disbelief.
Wen Yu said leisurely, “Yeah, I trained for two and a half years. During that time, I learned singing, dancing, and rap, but I still liked playing basketball the most.”
“When… when did this happen? How come I have no recollection at all…”
“Hahaha…”
Fu Chengque realized and stomped her feet in frustration.
“Don’t joke with me, or I’ll die!”
She caught up and lightly kicked Wen Yu’s calf.
Then she said with a melancholy expression, “You’re so talented at drawing, I never expected that. So, did you really draw that painting?”
“Of course, Fang Ling and the others watched me draw it. It took almost half a day, and my hands almost broke from exhaustion…”
“I’m sorry…”
“Um, it’s not your fault.”
“It’s your fault!”
“Huh? Why suddenly blame me?”
“You obviously know how to draw, and you’re much better than me, but you didn’t say anything! You! Kept! Quiet! Letting me do all the work, and in the end, you descended like a savior, completing such a good painting in half a day, winning everyone’s favor.”
Under the setting sun, the girl’s chest rose and fell.
Wen Yu looked at Fu Chengque and saw her pretty face flushed even more under the rosy glow.
“I used to think I was a winner.”
Fu Chengque said seriously.
“In the end, I found out that others were the winners, and I was a loser, like a joke…”
“No, you’re not.”
“What do you mean I’m not?”
“In my eyes, you’ve always been like that comet, bright and dazzling.”
The conversation happened quickly, with Wen Yu speaking without thinking, only realizing afterward how late it was.
He saw the girl in front of him stunned for a moment, then her gaze moved away from his as she looked around, perhaps feeling it was impolite, her eyes returned, but as their gazes met, she quickly looked away again, finally turning her back.
After a long time, a murmured voice came out like a mosquito: “What are you talking about…”
Neither of them spoke, silently leaning on the railing by the lake, enjoying the scenery.
Oddly enough, Wen Yu didn’t feel bored during this silent and uneventful time. On the contrary, it was quite interesting.
He saw a dragonfly chasing a small fly, and the fly, in panic, darted into a spider’s web. A drop of water fell from the web onto a lotus leaf below, joining a larger droplet. The droplet bent the leaf, falling into the lake, startling a red fish and creating a ripple in the shape of a heart.
It’s so interesting; he wanted to tell her.
Would she be interested in listening?
When the sun completely set and the night grew darker, Fu Chengque spoke first.
“Wen Yu, will you teach me how to draw in the future?”
“Isn’t your dream to become an actor?”
“How did you know my dream is to become an actor?”
A sudden attack.
Wen Yu quickly chuckled, “I guessed.”
“Well, I haven’t really tried to hide it. If you find out, you find out… Indeed, my current dream is to become an actor.” Fu Chengque openly admitted, then looked despondent, “Oh, this is also the reason my parents argued today.”
“Why is that?”
“My dad thinks pursuing a career in acting or being a star is too off-track. He envisions my future as a teacher, doctor, and the like.”
“Aren’t you interested?”
“It’s not that I’m not interested, it’s just that I’m more interested in acting. But dreams are dreams, and I also know that the future will always change.”
“And your mom supports you?”
“Yes, my mom used to study dance, but my dad deceived her…” Fu Chengque looked reluctant to reminisce, “Forget it, let’s not talk about this. Anyway, they were arguing about my future. But…”
“But, they never asked you, and you can’t even decide your own future.”
Wen Yu continued.
Fu Chengque felt down for a moment, then suddenly smiled mysteriously.
“Wen Yu, come here, I’ll tell you a secret.”
“A secret!”
Wen Yu became extremely excited; this must be the reason for Fu Chengque’s recent odd behavior!
