Chapter 3
Chapter 3: Sharing a Candlelit Dinner?
Monday, the sun was shining brightly.
Wen Yu and Fu Chengque both left at the same time, inevitably meeting each other as they left.
Wen Yu greeted her with a smile.
“Hey, Ms. Fu, good morning.”
Fu Chengque glanced at him and didn’t respond.
Wen Yu felt a bit disappointed but wasn’t upset. He stepped out before Fu Chengque, heading downstairs.
Fu Chengque just shrugged. In the past, they had each lived fine without the other, hadn’t they? So, no need to suck up.
After descending, they headed to the bus stop.
It had been hot yesterday, but today was unexpectedly cool.
The road to school was quite far, requiring a transfer midway for the bus.
Wen Yu glanced at the sun, feeling a bit dizzy from the glare. This sun was the same as in the past life, and the road to school, the buses like 211 and 178, the signs along the way, and the storefronts on the right, were all identical. Wen Yu walked silently as before.
The only difference was the addition of a girl trailing behind him.
There was this sudden childhood sweetheart who had started accompanying him to school again.
Her small expressions, gestures, and the words that followed were all unfamiliar to him.
“Could you walk faster?”
“Huh, Fu Chengque, you can go first.”
“I don’t want you walking behind me.”
“So, you’ve been following me this whole time?”
The girl pouted and looked away.
At this moment, her eyes suddenly lit up.
“I see Xiao Gua! Xiao Gua!”
Fu Chengque waved at the car.
Encountering this “miracle” nearly a hundred times a year still filled her with the joy of “luck.”
Xiao Gua’s real name was Peng Hui. She once gave Fu Chengque a delicious little watermelon, so every time she saw Peng Hui holding a little watermelon, she would happily shout “Little Watermelon, it’s Xiao Gua.”
That’s how the nickname stuck, and they became good friends.
Upon boarding the bus, they realized things were complicated.
There was a boy sitting beside Xiao Gua. His gaze towards Wen Yu and Fu Chengque indicated that he had some connection with Xiao Gua.
Xiao Gua felt a bit embarrassed.
Wen Yu and Fu Chengque exchanged glances and silently moved towards the back row.
“Surprisingly, there are seats on the bus today.”
“…”
After all these years, Wen Yu had never encountered a situation where there were no seats on the 211 bus.
“What do you think their relationship is?” Chengque suddenly asked.
“What else could it be? They’re probably a couple.”
Fu Chengque was taken aback, turning to stare at Wen Yu with incredulity in his eyes.
“You mean they’re dating?”
Wen Yu: ?
Is high school romance such a shocking thing in your eyes?
Fu Chengque seemed to understand Wen Yu’s expression.
“But she’s Xiao Gua.”
“Can’t Xiao Gua date someone?”
“But…”
Fu Chengque bit his lip.
“Xiao Gua sneaked out last night…”
“Is it appropriate for you to tell me this? How did you know?” Wen Yu was slightly surprised.
“Did she go to meet this boy?”
“Probably.”
“What would they do meeting so late?”
“Do… private things that couples do?”
“Like what?”
“Such as… taking a walk in the park, having a candlelight dinner together.”
“…”
Fu Chengque frowned, remaining silent.
As bus 178 climbed along the riverbank, the boy beside Xiao Gua daringly touched Xiao Gua’s hand.
Wen Yu and Fu Chengque could see it clearly.
Fu Chengque’s eyes widened, showing signs of panic behind, unsure of what to think.
They arrived at school without incident.
He and Fu Chengque were in the same class but quite far apart. Even if they were closer, being in their senior year, they wouldn’t necessarily exchange many words in class.
Although Fu Chengque’s grades weren’t outstanding, she was the publicity officer.
In school, attractive girls were usually publicity officers.
They weren’t just for show; they still had to get things done.
“Fu Chengque, our class is responsible for the big bulletin board this month. Get a few more classmates together quickly, decide on the format, and finish it next week. This is the first big bulletin of the year, and it might be the last one for you seniors. If it’s done well, it’ll help with class evaluations and even your own recognition as outstanding students.”
“Okay, Teacher Chen.”
That was Fu Chengque’s job.
She was in charge of various publicity matters, including the class bulletin board. Among them, the most significant was the large bulletin board at the school gate, which was twice the size of the classroom bulletin board.
As the first impression of the school’s overall image, creating a distinctive bulletin board was a top priority.
Fu Chengque received the task and immediately took action.
She walked coldly to the platform, and everyone knew she was about to take advantage of the lingering influence of the class teacher and call out names on the spot.
“Peng Hui, you’ll work on this with me.”
“Sure~”
No surprises there.
Besides the two fixed members of the publicity group, Xiao Gua was Fu Chengque’s trusted backup.
“We need one more for the big bulletin board.”
As she said this, some lowered their heads while others stood straight.
Looking down, Fu Chengque saw the usual faces among those who lowered their heads and the familiar ones among those standing straight.
Li Yi, the vice monitor, was warm-hearted and well-connected.
Zhang Chaoli, the English class representative, was serious and responsible.
There were a few others who had often been chosen for class matters in the past.
This time…
Fu Chengque looked into the distance and saw Wen Yu sitting in the corner, doodling.
“Wen Yu, you come too.”
All eyes immediately shifted to Wen Yu, who looked up blankly before returning to Fu Chengque.
This situation was quite delicate.
Fu Chengque felt her cheeks burning.
She wished she could run away immediately.
She was even more annoyed that Wen Yu didn’t respond like a character in a TV drama, standing up immediately with a flurry of “yes, yes, yes” as soon as she called him.
Glancing at the sudden task notification on her phone, she felt determined.
[Task: Have a candlelight dinner with “Wen Yu” without revealing the task objective.]
[Task Duration: 29h23m57s]
[Task Rewards: Comprehensive Drawing Ability +15, Enhanced Color Ability +5, Perfect Task Special Reward: Dance +4]

And the special reward of Dance +4 would bring her closer to her dream.
So, she must actively create conditions for contact with Wen Yu.
Moreover, this task does not require her not to use force to make Wen Yu have a candlelight dinner with her—
