Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Her Sleeping Face
The next day at noon, Wen Yu woke up first. He had fallen asleep while listening, completely unaware of how long they had talked afterward.
He slept soundly, not even knowing when Fu Chengque had come over —
The long sofa was divided into two, with Fu Chengque lying on the other side, their heads close together.
The other three squeezed onto a bed in a downstairs guest room, leaving the door open. Wen Yu glanced at them and then returned to the living room.
He reached out and touched the thick blanket covering Fu Chengque, which was warm.
The girl was sleeping peacefully.
This was probably the first time Wen Yu had seen Fu Chengque’s sleeping face.
Unable to resist, Wen Yu sat down and observed. She lay half on her side on the sofa, resembling a painting by Sergei Marshennikov. Her skin seemed to flow delicately, forming smooth hills and valleys that made the gaze slip and slide, contrasting sharply with the rigid folds of the messy sofa cover and thick blankets. The shallow breathing was the only movement, rising and falling like the wind passing through, stirring up this exquisite painting.
It was like white snow falling on densely packed gravel hills, with sand and snow swirling, and the breeze stirring, confusing his eyes.
So beautiful.
Wen Yu stared for a while and suddenly thought:
She’s so beautiful. Just relying on memory with my eyes isn’t enough…
About an hour later, the others woke up one after another and began to pack up.
They gathered up the leftovers and unused items, sorted them out, and whoever needed them took them. Whatever was left was redistributed.
Perhaps a little bit of high school face was still at play; they only took a little bit of drinks and snacks. Lu Min was fine with it since her family was well-off and she had no worries about food and drink. But Xiao Gua and Fang Ling were not the only children at home, and their families were not well-off, so there was no reason for them not to take what they didn’t need.
Wen Yu thought for a moment, then discreetly called Fu Chengque aside.
“Later, you should ask Xiao Gua and Fang Ling to bring back more snacks and drinks, as well as some leftover barbecue materials. They’re still good, and it’s a waste to throw them away. We can’t consume so much by ourselves.”
Fu Chengque scratched her head. “How should I say it? If I ask directly, they’ll probably say there’s no need…”
She clearly understood the situation once Wen Yu explained.
“You’re silly. Just ask about Xiao Gua’s younger siblings’ situation. For example, have their grades improved? If they have, say we’re taking these back to reward them.”
“And if their grades have dropped?”
“If they’ve dropped, say we’re taking these back to supplement their nutrition.”
Fu Chengque suddenly realized and exclaimed, “Oh!” admiringly. “You’re clever.”
The two returned to the living room and joined the cleaning queue.
Fu Chengque leisurely leaned over to Xiao Gua’s side and hugged his waist, saying, “Xiao Gua, it’s a pity you didn’t bring your younger siblings over to eat this time.”
Xiao Gua smiled, “It’s your birthday. Why would I bring them over? No way.”
“If more people come, it’ll be more lively! Seriously, it must be because you didn’t mention it.” Fu Chengque pretended to be annoyed. “Later, they’ll think I’ve forgotten about them!”
“They won’t know.”
“You see, just as I thought!”
Fu Chengque exclaimed loudly, released Xiao Gua, and then “angrily” grabbed a large bag, muttering while stuffing snacks and drinks into it, “Blame me, blame me. I should have just asked you to bring them over directly. Now, I’ve really forgotten. How can I face them? Xiao Gua, take these things back and tell them it’s your sister’s birthday, so I’m treating them.”
After filling a bag, she handed it over.
Xiao Gua hesitated and didn’t take it.
“What’s wrong? They won’t refuse to eat what I treat them to, will they?”
“Of course not… They like you.”
“Then take it.”
“Okay…”
“Oh, by the way, how have their grades been lately? Have they finished their exams for elementary and middle school?”
“My little sister’s grades are better, but my little brother’s are average. There hasn’t been much improvement,” Xiao Gua said softly, seeming slightly uncomfortable discussing family matters in front of everyone. “Ah, Chengque, let’s talk about these things later, okay?”
Fu Chengque raised her eyebrows.
Turning around, she took out three boxes of marinated beef and other meats from the refrigerator, all prepared for barbecue but not used, and stuffed them into the bag together.
As she stuffed, she said, “These are rewards for my little sister’s improved grades. Give some others to my little brother, but give him less so he knows that if he doesn’t improve his studies, he won’t get any good food!”
Xiao Gua hesitated as she took them, without much to say.
Once Fu Chengque was done with one, she repeated the same tactics with Fang Ling. After a round of “I’ve given some to Xiao Gua’s siblings, so if I give less to your family, won’t I be unfair?”, Fang Ling had no retort and took some leftover meat, fish, and good barbecue ingredients.
In this way, the surplus items were distributed clean.
After a simple cleanup, everyone left.
Standing outside the gate, Lu Min gently pulled the door shut with a click, and it automatically locked.
The group looked up at the three-story building, all feeling a bit desolate.
“Time flies so fast, we’re about to leave.” Fang Ling said.
“I feel like I can hear laughter coming from inside,” Lu Min added artistically.
Xiao Gua shivered, “Lu Min, don’t say such scary things, it’s creepy…”
The group froze for a moment, then burst into laughter together.
Fu Chengque’s nose felt sour.
“We won’t have this kind of opportunity again… Wen Yu, can we still go out like this together in the future?”
“I think so.”
Fu Chengque opened her mouth but didn’t know what else to say.
Without further ado, Lu Min timely took over the conversation.
“Let’s thank Wen Yu one last time for giving Chengque and us this super-duper awesome birthday party!”
“Yes, yes, yes, he worked hard before and after.”
“Is Wen Yu blushing too?” Xiao Gua suddenly squinted her eyes.
“Where, where, where!? Let me see too!!”
Excited, Fu Chengque peeked at Wen Yu’s face and got flicked on the head by Wen Yu.
He turned away, asking loudly, “Check everything, do you have everything? Phone, keys, wallet, don’t lose anything.”
But no one responded to him, and the four girls bumped their heads together.
Then they all shouted together:
“Thank you, Wen Yu.”
Wen Yu shivered and smiled helplessly, “You guys are really good at playing awkward…”
This was followed by a series of cheerful laughter, then they dispersed in different directions.
In the cold wind, only one sentence remained to warm the air:
“See you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow!”
“See you tomorrow~”
“Bye, see you tomorrow!”

Wen Yu and Fu Chengque took a taxi back together.
In the car, she was drowsy. When they got off the car, Fu Chengque carried things in both hands, wearing an extra layer, with a book tucked under her armpit, and she swayed as she walked.
“Shall I help you carry?”
“No need!”
“Wait, if you slip and fall into a ditch.”
“If I fall, you’ll just leave me there.”
“Well, if you fall and I don’t rescue you, you’ll marinate for a week and smell bad. If I rescue you, the gifts will be ruined. Should I rescue the gifts first or you first?” Wen Yu suddenly asked.
“Um…” The girl began to look confused.
“Never mind, don’t dwell on it. Anyway, if you walk on the inside, if you fall, at most you’ll break your face, but both you and the gifts will be fine.”
“Good point!”
After exchanging positions, the two slowly made their way back home.
No one was at home for either of them. After washing up, they each lay down. They had indeed stayed up too late last night, and they needed to catch up on sleep during the day, or they would be in trouble tomorrow.
Just as Wen Yu had tucked in the blanket, his phone vibrated.
He picked it up and saw that it was Qingmei from next door.
