Chapter 16
Chapter 16: Who Wouldn’t Be Dazed?
Sivey glanced at the bathroom door with puzzlement. He had been waiting in the hallway outside for nearly an hour.
What could this young girl be doing in there? Has she not finished bathing yet?
Surely she hadn’t drowned, right? (…─.─||)
Shaking his head, Sivey quickly shook off this absurd and ominous thought. The bathtub wasn’t deep enough for such a thing, and Lori, though shorter than most, would not be at risk of drowning.
As he pondered, there was suddenly movement at the bathroom door.
Lori emerged, her face flushed, clad in oversized pajamas. Catching sight of Sivey waiting outside, she lowered her head guiltily, her fuzzy ears drooping.
Sivey’s eyes brightened, struck by her adorable appearance.
Lori was naturally very charming and cute. Even though the dirt on her face wasn’t too obvious before, after bathing, her pink and slightly chubby cheeks were fully revealed.
It was clear that her brother had treated her well, at least in terms of food and drink.
Under the flickering light of the magic lamp, her fair and delicate skin, petite and exquisite features, delicate eyebrows like willow leaves, and watery pale red eyes conveyed a hint of timidity and innocence.
With her fuzzy ears and tail, and the slightly ill-fitting clothes revealing a glimpse of her delicate neck and collarbones, she appeared both adorable and alluring…
Who wouldn’t be dazed by this?
Sivey pinched his thigh to force himself to calm down.
“Cough cough—Taking a bath does make you look much fresher. Come with me, Mrs. Chris is already waiting for you in the hall.”
With that, Sivey naturally took the girl’s soft and boneless hand and led her towards the lord’s hall.
Lori followed closely behind him, her soft and cool hand gently clasping one of Sivey’s fingers, and her fluffy tail swayed quietly.
…
Mrs. Chris was a somewhat plump middle-aged woman who looked kind and always had a smiling face.
After Sivey grew up, Mrs. Chris could have left the Golden Lion family with a handsome reward, but she chose to stay and became a housekeeper.
Now she followed Sivey to Winterkeep and became the housekeeper of Winterkeep.
But recently, she had been relatively idle, only needing to manage the fewer than ten servants that Sivey had snatched yesterday.
She was only summoned now, reportedly to teach a designated Personal Maid appointed by Sivey.
But this was actually against the rules because Personal Maids generally served the mistress. However, Mrs. Chris wouldn’t say much. Rules were only for the weak, and not following them was also a display of strength.
Soon, two figures, one tall and one short, appeared in Mrs. Chris’s sight, and her sharp eyes immediately caught sight of Lori’s small hand held by Sivey.
It seemed that Young Master Sivey had finally reached the age of enlightenment.
Mrs. Chris covered her mouth and chuckled, pretending not to have noticed.
“Good evening, Young Master Sivey. Is this the maid who needs guidance? She’s such a beautiful and delicate demi-human girl.”
Approaching, Mrs. Chris brightly appraised Lori, with a mix of admiration and scrutiny.
“Yes, she’s the one I brought back from Dawn Town. When I found her, she was almost beaten to death by a group of children.”
“So I hope you won’t be too harsh on her. I trust you understand what I’m getting at.”
Sivey nodded and let Lori, who was hiding behind him in fear, come out.
Now was not the time to be soft-hearted. He still had a system Quest to complete, definitely not because of massaging or warming the bed.
“And the priest?”
Sivey was puzzled to find only Mrs. Chris in the hall, accompanied by the knight who had gone to fetch the priest. There was no sign of the priest himself.
“Lord, the priests at the church refused to come and perform healing spells. Their Bishop even said…” The knight hesitated, glancing at Sivey’s gradually darkening expression.
“What did he say?” Sivey demanded.
“He said you were crazy for wanting a shepherd of the gods to treat a demi-human, someone lower than commoners.”
Hearing the knight’s words, the girl beside him trembled. Sivey gently squeezed Lori’s hand in reassurance, then sneered at the knight and said:
“Refused to treat, huh?
Fine. Go find Clement now and have him lead the cavalry to surround the church. I’ll be there shortly.”
“As you command.”
“Does he dare defy my orders so soon after I took office? If this continues, will he think he can walk all over me?”
Sivey’s gaze was cold. He knew it was normal for Barda’s followers to refuse to treat demi-humans, but he also wanted to see who issued this order.
It was Sivey, the lord of the Eagle Territory.
The entire territory was under his control. Wasn’t it ridiculous for a simple priest to refuse to help just because he was asked by a newly appointed lord? Wasn’t this disregarding his authority as a lord?
If this matter were to be let go, the lord’s prestige would be directly trampled on. How could he govern the Eagle Territory?
“It seems the Clergy have become increasingly arrogant lately.”
There was a hint of killing intent in Sivey’s eyes.
Others might be respectful towards the Clergy, but not the Golden Lion family, especially not him.
They were just a bunch of self-proclaimed dogs of the gods. If there were to be a religious war, it would be the nobles sending troops to the front lines, not dealing with these fools who only knew how to pray. Did they think they were impressive with just a few squads of Temple knights?
If he could stand up to the Child of Destiny and the Fourth Catastrophe, why should he fear a few squads of Temple knights? Ridiculous…
But now, the first priority was to address Lori’s injuries. Sivey turned and walked into the study, soon returning with a small, crystal-clear bottle in hand.
This was the Water of Life, sourced from the Fountain of Life in the Elf Kingdom. It was incredibly precious and a unique item on the Cain Continent. While it had healing properties, its true function was to extend lifespan and eliminate hidden injuries.
On the Cain Continent, there were no pure healing potions, only amplification potions that accelerated natural healing. In previous lives, players had crafted healing potions, but they came with significant side effects, such as inducing a state of continuous bleeding shortly after providing a brief period of healing.
In fact, this was to be expected. If truly miraculous healing potions existed, the Cain Continent would be plunged into chaos.
After all, this was a real world, and even the digitized information served only as a guideline.
“Drink it.”
Sivey handed the small bottle of Water of Life to Lori without hesitation.
Lori hesitated, feeling uneasy as she looked at the crystal-clear, precious bottle in her hand. Glancing at Sivey and seeing his determined gaze, she carefully unscrewed the bottle and drank its contents.
The cool liquid slid down her throat, and for a moment, it seemed like warm water was flowing all over her body.
What a wonderful feeling it was?
In a daze, Lori felt like she was still a child, nestling in her mother’s arms, with the scent of wheat swirling around her on a summer night.
Every cell in her body seemed to cheer and rejoice as the visible scars vanished at an astonishing rate, leaving her skin smoother and more hydrated.
“Thank you… My Lord.”
Lori’s heart warmed as she gazed at Sivey, her expression deeply moved. Though she had no idea what the magical liquid in the small bottle was, she knew it had to be incredibly valuable. Yet, Sivey had given it to her without a moment’s hesitation.
Sivey nodded in satisfaction as the Water of Life took effect immediately. If something like this had existed on Blue Star, his former world, it would have been fiercely coveted by many.
With Lori’s injuries now healed, it was time for Sivey to settle the score with those priests.
“So Lori will be left in your care, Mrs. Chris. I have other matters to attend to now.”
“Rest assured, Master Sivey. When you come back tonight, you’ll find a well-behaved and lovely maid waiting for you.”
Sivey grinned at Lori and Mrs. Chris, nodding slightly before donning his armor and leaving the castle hall.
As she watched him go, Mrs. Chris turned to Lori with an affectionate smile. “Lord Sivey seems to care for you a great deal. He’s a good man. You should be good and not cause him any trouble.”
Lori’s expression grew puzzled at Mrs. Chris’s words. Like her? Could she truly be worthy of such extravagant gifts?
But what were her feelings toward Lord Sivey? Reflecting on it, Lori realized she felt immense gratitude and respect for him. Everyone desired strength, and she was no exception, especially since he had saved her life.
Yet, she didn’t dare to entertain deeper feelings—not because she didn’t want to, but because she felt unworthy.
Clutching the bottle of Water of Life tightly, Lori’s mind raced with thoughts. Soon, she collected herself and nodded to Mrs. Chris.
She didn’t feel any contempt or disgust from this kind Mrs. Chris, which relaxed her originally uneasy mood.
