The Players And The Protagonist Want To Kill Me

Chapter 69

Chapter 69: Clement Breakthrough

Just by seeing the soldiers’ demeanor, Sivey was extremely satisfied.

Their shouts were really loud.

He dug his ears and focused his eyes on one of the soldiers, and the soldier’s information panel appeared.

[Name: Zhang San]

[Identity: Crusader]

[Strength: Swordsman Level 15 (11-20)]

[Skills: Shield Bash, Military Formation (Passive)]

[Equipment: Crusader Shield (Common), Crusader Longsword (Common), Standard Crusader Armor (Common)]

[Eagle Territory Reputation: 1 (This soldier is willing to die for you)]

……

Sivey looked at the other soldiers, stroking his chin and nodding with satisfaction.

These soldiers’ panels were quite common, but their skills were very powerful.

The military formation skill was a special skill that became more potent with more soldiers.

The difference between Sharpshooters and Crusaders was that the skills changed to Piercing Sniper and Formation Volley.

Moreover, he didn’t need to name them; otherwise, if thousands of system soldiers appeared later, Sivey would break his head trying to come up with names.

“System, what happens when these soldiers die in battle? Do they really die?”

Sivey was concerned about this issue. These soldiers looked very dull-eyed, although they had flesh and blood, they seemed like a bunch of robots.

“Ding! After a system soldier dies, the soul aggregate returns to the #&$%? space. These soul aggregates can be reused repeatedly, the only difference being that they inhabit different bodies.”

“So, if I recruit a bunch of dragons in the future, will they also use these souls? Uh… soul aggregates?”

“Ding! That’s correct. Although the soul aggregates are indistinguishable from each other, they will be infused with different memories when producing different units.”

Sivey roughly understood the system’s meaning. The so-called soul aggregates were probably blank souls, mass-produced by the system or by the string of garbled text behind it. Different units served as containers, simply infused with different skills upon recruitment, and reset after death.

To further understand the characteristics of these soldiers, Sivey decided to converse with them.

“Zhang San, is it?”

Sivey approached the Crusader named Zhang San and greeted him.

“Loyalty to the lord!” Zhang San shouted, saluting loudly enough to make Sivey’s ears buzz.

Sivey pursed his lips, took two steps back, and tentatively asked:

“Do you know what money is? Do you know what a woman is?”

Zhang San stared blankly at Sivey, like a machine on the fritz. After a moment, he suddenly shouted:

“Loyalty to the lord!”

“Fight bravely!”

“…” Sivey remained silent, stepping back again.

“Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?” He persisted, deciding to ask a more critical question.

This time, Zhang San indeed had a different reaction. He untied the pouch from his waist, glanced inside, then stood at attention, looking straight at Sivey, and shouted:

“Report to the lord! Zhang San’s food is sufficient, no need for supplies!”

Sivey continued to ask Zhang San and the other soldiers a series of questions and roughly figured out their nature.

Their mode of existence was somewhat similar to that of Players.

However, their shortcomings were also apparent. Their intelligence was limited, or rather, their intelligence resembled an artificially created instinct. Apart from fighting, they only knew basic survival functions. They were born as emotionless combat machines.

What the system said about their intelligence increasing with levels made sense.

The premise of leveling up was survival. The longer they lived and the more they interacted with the real world, the more enriched their blank souls would become.

But one thing was absolutely unchangeable: their loyalty to him.

With the second Player test approaching, Sivey planned to use the remaining Villain Points to first exchange for a Sky Knight Breakthrough potion for Clement.

All the remaining Villain Points would be used for mass recruiting soldiers until the Players reached Winterkeep.

However, not just yet. Sivey needed to wait for the guards to deliver the iron ore since it would reduce the recruitment costs by half.

“System, I want to exchange it for a Sky Knight Breakthrough potion.”

“Ding! Sky Knight potion exchanged successfully, materialized.”

Sivey felt a weight in his hand, and a crystal vial appeared in his grasp.

Inside the vial, the azure liquid glistened like a cloudless sky under the sunlight, exceptionally beautiful.

……

In the open-air training ground of the castle, a group of new recruits were training diligently under the sun.

Meanwhile, Clement sat in a shaded area, happily watching the sweaty recruits while oiling his own sword and armor.

Beside him were chilled tea and fruits brought by a servant.

Since the battle at the iron mine, Clement had become less active, but this passivity wasn’t the desolation of a heroic decline. It was more like a retirement-like leisure.

With Sivey having achieved Sky Knight status and a powerful lava creature always present in the castle, Clement no longer needed to worry about Master Sivey’s safety as he had before.

“Oh, Clement, long time no see.”

Clement suddenly heard Sivey’s gentle voice behind him, with its characteristic tone.

“Good day, Master Sivey.”

Clement wanted to put down the armor in his hand and stand up to salute, but Sivey stopped him.

“Clement, do you want to Breakthrough Sky Knight?”

Sivey smiled at the old knight before him, who, although old, still appeared spirited. There was a hint of meaning in his tone.

Clement didn’t know why Master Sivey was asking this, but at the mention of Breaking through Sky Knight, his eyes couldn’t help but reveal a longing. He replied:

“Of course, Master Sivey. This is the lifelong wish of this old servant.”

“However, alas—”Clement sighed softly, then continued: “This old servant is already advanced in years, and the potential of my body has long been exhausted.”

But immediately after, a bright light appeared in the old knight’s eyes, and he chuckled:

“Now that I can see you getting better and better, and Eagle Territory under your command is growing stronger day by day, this old servant has no regrets in this life.”

Sivey felt warmed by his words. If he could see someone’s loyalty to him, besides Lori’s unwavering loyalty, there was only this diligent old man left.

“Clement, believe me, you can still live a long, long time.”

Sivey said sincerely, taking out the advanced potion from his pocket and placing it in the old knight’s hand.

“Drink it.”

Clement looked at the potion in his hand, without hesitation, he unscrewed the lid and drank it all in one gulp. After the iron mine battle and the compensation gold incident, his trust in Master Sivey had reached an almost blindly loyal level.

Whatever Sivey asked him to do, he would do, without question or need for explanation.

Compared to the mild dragon blood potion, the Sky Knight advanced potion was obviously much more violent.

In just a moment after ingesting the potion, Qi throughout Clement’s body began to boil, and it rapidly grew at an incredible speed.

Under the potion’s effect, his cells were constantly renewing, new skin began to grow, and the old, wrinkled skin was replaced like the shedding of old tree bark.

“Ah—”

Clement roared, his crimson Qi flames soaring up to three meters high. These flames spread around him, carrying a terrifying battlefield atmosphere filled with killing intent, painting a scene of war with weapons and corpses.

These killing intents covered half of the training ground, and the soldiers who had been training were already frightened to their knees by this terrifying battlefield aura.

After a while, the killing intent gradually subsided, and the rampant Qi flames were also contained within his body.

Feeling the power of the Sky Knight within him and looking at his much younger hands, Clement’s lips trembled, unable to contain his emotions.

“Young… Master, this old servant…”

He stammered, not knowing how to express the shock and gratitude in his heart, so he could only kneel halfway in front of Sivey, as if offering gold and jade.

At this moment, his gaze towards Sivey was fanatic, as if seeing a deity.
