Chapter 66: This is an Order

“Zoe, you are a Saintess, you must serve the Goddess well.”

“Zoe, as a Saintess, you must set an example. How can you be playful?”

“Zoe, go recite the scriptures!”

“Zoe, why haven’t you Awakened this time?”

“Zoe, I brought you out of the orphanage, hoping you would become an excellent Saintess.”

“Zoe, don’t let me down.”

“Zoe…”

Zoe opened her eyes and found herself back in the familiar orphanage, the familiar alley.

How many times had this been?

Clearly, she had died many times, so why did this endless repetition continue?

“Zoe, demi-human nation… revenge…”

“Stop it… stop it…”

Zoe closed her eyes in pain, covering her ears, kneeling on the ground, tears rolling down her pale cheeks, dripping onto the ground.

Her life had always been like this, taken from the orphanage to the Holy See, trained as the Saintess of the temple.

Every day filled with rigorous study of difficult and obscure knowledge.

Constantly sent into the storm, under waterfalls, into flames for training, and when injured, healed by divine power, yet she never managed to Awaken.

She felt like a manipulated machine, a marionette, endlessly repeating the commands and teachings of the previous Saintess.

She was just a worthless person wearing the guise of a Saintess.

She had never lived for herself.

In the pitch-black night, the piercing cold wind howled, and from time to time, the sound of leaves colliding could be heard.

In the distance came the sound of chaotic footsteps and cries of battle.

Zoe opened her eyes. In the dilapidated alley, many demi-humans fleeing for their lives appeared beside her.

It was the same again, endless nightmares.

She pressed her lips together, stood up, and shouted loudly, trying to gather everyone together instead of running around like headless chickens, but no one could see her.

The sound of hooves rang behind her, accompanied by the clanking of armor and weapons. Many demi-humans were brutally killed, a head still bearing a terrified expression rolled to Zoe’s feet.

Darkness enveloped Zoe, leaving her alone.

Savage imperial soldiers surrounded her, grinning like devouring demons.

Zoe’s face turned pale, she turned and ran desperately, the scenes before her eyes changing bizarrely.

Sometimes it was a dark and gloomy forest with twisted shadows; sometimes it was a dilapidated alley with splattered blood and corpses everywhere; sometimes it was the temple of the Goddess, the statue of the Goddess with broken wings shedding blood tears.

Everywhere was filled with the dead, blood forming rivers that rose to her knees.

“Ah…”

Not knowing what she tripped over while running, Zoe let out a painful cry and fell into a corner.

Beside her, the broken statue of the Goddess wept tears of blood, the hollow eyes of her fellow kin’s mutilated corpses stared directly at her, the scene gradually stained with blood, and blood rain began to fall from the dim night sky.

A group of imperial soldiers with faces like demons raised their Longswords and stabbed at the girl cowering in the corner.

Zoe closed her eyes in despair, a bitter smile of relief forming on her lips.

Let her die, she didn’t want to carry those burdens anymore, didn’t want to endlessly repeat this nightmare.

“Clang!”

“Stand up!”

A deep male voice rang in her ears, Zoe opened her eyes in confusion.

Something seemed different.

In her vision, a tall and heroic man stood in front of her, blocking the soldiers’ Longswords.

In this hellish alley, the golden Qi radiance from the man cut through the darkness.

“Lord… Eagle Lord?”

Zoe murmured in disbelief, puzzled as to why she was seeing that man here.

The gentle light-formed Eagle Lord turned around and looked at her coldly, tossing the Longsword in his hand in front of her with a “clang”.

“Pick it up!”

Zoe looked at the Longsword in front of her, then at Eagle Lord’s cold expression, bit her lip, and tremblingly picked up the Longsword from the ground, using the mottled wall of the alley to stand up.

She didn’t know why, but whenever she faced this fierce man, she always felt like a controlled puppet, obedient to his will.

“Very good, now, go and fight! You are the Demi-Human Saintess, not a worthless person!”

The harsh rebuke was as cold as the winter wind, showing no sympathy for her miserable situation.

Yet Zoe didn’t feel the slightest bit wronged; instead, a strange sense of joy and a peculiar feeling welled up inside her.

She thought she must be broken.

The tingling sensation tickled her heart, spreading throughout her body, and a sickly blush crept up her delicate and pretty face.

Zoe’s lips trembled, her eyes somewhat dazed, and she stammered:

“Is… is this an order?”

The man before her curled his lips into a cold smile and affirmed: “Yes, this is an order, an order to live for yourself.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the Eagle Lord, formed of soft light, gradually dissipated in the night wind before Zoe’s eyes.

It seemed as if he no longer cared whether she lived or died.

Darkness swept in once more, but Zoe now had a Longsword in her hand.

“This… this is an order…”

“Live on…”

……

“Lori, do you think she can sense the Breath Of The Wild?”

Sivey scrutinized the fox-eared girl lying motionless on the bed and asked with somewhat uncertainty.

Lori blinked. She had just used her power to help Zoe guide an insight, which should have succeeded, but she was still unsure, troubled:

“She should be able to sense it… but what exactly she can sense depends on her.”

“So I’m not sure if this insight will help her fight the nightmare.”

“Forget it, do our best and leave the rest to fate.”

Sivey looked out the window; it was already late at night, the cold wind howled, and heavy rain was pouring down.

Lori had been very tired today, and Sivey didn’t want her to keep working, so he smiled at the little maid and said:

“Since she is not in immediate danger, we don’t need to keep watching her. Let’s go to sleep.”

“Master… it seemed like there was thunder outside just now…” Lori, looking very frightened, clung closer to him.

Sivey knew Lori had always been afraid of thunder, so he affectionately tapped the little maid’s nose, then bent down, picked her up, and carried her back to his room.

“Come, let master hold you, cuddle and sleep, don’t be afraid, okay, good girl~”

“Wuwu…(/w)”

The little maid undressed, climbed into bed, and snuggled under the covers. Her smooth, pink legs wrapped around Sivey’s thigh, her two soft little hands rested on his chest, and her tail had to entwine one of his hands, clinging tightly like an octopus.

The two of them kissed and cuddled for a moment.

Lori suddenly felt something, a blush gradually rising from her neck and spreading to her face.

She gazed at Sivey with misty eyes, her small hands drawing circles on his broad chest, the wateriness in her eyes seeming to melt him, and she shyly murmured:

“Mas… master, Lori has grown up, Lori wants to… (//////)”

“Ahem—, sleep now, it’s so late, you still have to go to the clinic tomorrow.”

“But master… you, you obviously… you were…”

Did what? Sivey indicated that he didn’t know anything, as he was already asleep.

“Whoosh whoosh… zzzzz…”

“Master~,,???,,”

“Hmph… zzzzzz…”

“Hmph… ,,???,,”

Lori puffed out her cheeks and pouted. She bit Sivey’s broad chest lightly in retaliation, her mind suddenly recalling the new Skills she learned from Mrs. Chris and a group of sisters.

She rolled her eyes, pursed her lips, and smiled slightly. She wriggled under the covers and lifted her two slender, soft feet.

Sivey: “???”
